| Verizon Communications is a world wide hub for connecting people. What they want to offer buyers is speed, mobility, control and quality for their advanced wireless and wireline broadband networks. In order to be a successful corporation, their main focus is to satisfy their customer. Their customers consist of more than 50 million wireless users and 30 million households with a wireline connection. In addition to that, thousands of big and small businesses also rely on Verizon services. Their slogan, We never stop working for you, is no doubt tested constantly with a high expectancy of reliability. Verizon offers a wide range of phone and internet services or products. Some of them are new phone service, freedom calling plans, local and long distance calling, international calling, voice wing broadband phone service, DSL, FiOS and broadband equipment. In order to support all of the features available to the customers, they have an army of nearly 87,000 employees to man their Network Services Group. Their responsibilities range from being a technician to personally servicing customers through call centers. In order to gain insight on what the customer desires, Verizon constantly analyzes customer satisfaction data. One study showed that customers wanted to be kept informed while services are being preformed. In order to fulfill this element, they instituted an automated call-ahead program that reminds customers about appointments. They also have a follow-up call program that ensures the customers requirements on any given job. Verizon believes that broadband is the tool that can make everything happen. Amazing benefits come from broadband like changing a child's learning experience with online streaming video, helping patients give medical information to doctors, or providing the tools for rural businesses to compete on a "big-city" scale. In addition one goal of Verizon Communications is to bring broadband to a larger population. They partnered with the Mount Hope Housing Company in the Bronx so that they can put affordable internet access into lower income homes. They also provided the residents with affordable computers and free computer training. They even offered extended software and hardware training to those residents who are willing to serve as on-site technicians for their Mount Hope neighbors. To test their capabilities in the rural areas, Verizon deployed fixed-wireless broadband networks to deliver high-speed Internet service. They targeted five communities with a combined population of about 42,000. With the help of their technology partners, Verizon hopes to find the optimal solution for delivering broadband service to remote or sparsely populated communities. Verizon has Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) available to just under 80 percent of the wireline customers in urban areas. In the rural areas, they increased the availability of DSL-capable lines by 8 percent on a base of 10.6 million lines. They also doubled the speed of existing customers. For those people without the service, they introduced a new entry-level DSL product priced at $14.95. This has introduced thousands of customers to the benefits of broadband and in turn added to the success of the corporation. Verizon has taken the next step and began to reinvent their wired networks with fiber technology that can deliver higher-speed Internet access. Through their fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network, Verizon plans to bring fiber technology to customers' homes and businesses. This new technology has reached 3 million customers by 2005 and they hope to reach 6 million by the end of this year. Our group chose Verizon Communications as a topic because not only do they use MIS in order to lead a successful business, but they offer great MIS solutions so that their customers can co-exist with each other just as efficiently. Verizon uses technology to make communication easier and has shared that capability with the world. They provide phone and internet services that are virtually necessary in todays society. On top of that, they also provide a full support team to make sure that the customer is satisfied and that they know exactly how to use the equipment provided. Verizon Communications has made it easier for businesses to succeed, children to learn, and for families to keep in touch. The assessment mark that they reached in 2005, showed that 89 percent of residential customers rated Verizons service as satisfactory or better. The internet provided me with great information about the success of Verizon Communication. It was interesting to learn about all of the services and products that they offer and I was also amazed that it takes so many people to cover many areas of support for the customers. As a consumer myself, I feel that I take for granted all of the features Verizon offers me. My eyes were opened to the vast amount of work that it takes to make such a corporation so successful. They definitely have done a great job in all aspects of the company which make it one of the top companies in the world. |
