Louisiana is a very beautiful state with all kinds of beautiful wild animals. With swamps all around the southern part of the state. There is sure to be some poor little critters that is in need of some kind of  kindness. My story is of one little guy,The Raccoon...sat back and  read my story on this one little guy and please remember this is a true story as it happen to  my husband Jim and myself.........

"The Raccoon"
One beautiful Sunday afternoon. we was  down  into the bayous, We had a camp (house boat ) in the swamp..which we would go to on weekends to get away from city living. We both  love camping, fishing and some hunting.

Jim & I was out riding in our boat doing some fishing. The water was very very high that year. The water was so high it was well over the banks. If i remember right it was the year of 1973, when the water was so high it would have flooded the city of Morgan City. But because of out Great Sea Wall the water was kept out of the city. That the one year I will never forget.

Ohh my!, back to the raccoon,as we was riding along the bayou we pass a small animal in a very small tree and the water was almost over his head.Poor little  thing it was not going to be too long before the little coon would drown for sure. I told Jim we would have to stop and help him. Jim said there was no way to help a wild raccoon. But I said we would have to try. Well we stop and try to get him out of the tree. But  to our surprise the little darling was caught in one of those mean metal animal trap. Jim said there was no way to help him,but I myself didn't want to believe that. SO we try and try for almost over one hour to try to hit the trap with the paddle from the boat, believe me that was not an easy thing to do..the poor little coon didn't like us very much and he didn't understand that we was trying to help him live.  Jim was trying to hit the trap just right but it was under the  water and couldn't be seen. Thank God the trap open and the coon just look at us like he was trying to say Thank You.Well  I  want you to know this  cajun woman did some crying that day.

The  coon jump into the water from the tree and swim into the swamp.Yes I do believe he was trying to say thank you  to us. Because he stop in the water and look back at us for a very long time, then off he went...We never  saw him again. This story is true and I will never forget the look in his eyes that day.Since that day I feel a very close  feeling in my heart for Raccoons.I love Raccoons...there will always be a place in my heart for them.

So that is my story on the Raccoon...hope you enjoyed reading it and Thank You for your time and please come back any time to visit me...enjoyed your company....Shirley
