Hi
my name is Shirley and welcome to my homepage. I graduated with a B.A.
in Liberal Studies from the University of Illinois in Springfield, Il.
At CSUN I am working on a masters in Elemetary Education. My career
goal includes getting a certificate in Reading and working in the
Literacy field. I enjoy working with community literacy programs
teaching adults and children to read. The use of multicultural
literature to teach reading is a dynamic tool. I have been researching
books for children of all ages so that I can provide a reference list
for parents.
This webpage is for E ED 602 a course I am enrolled in this semester.
The course helps prepare teachers on the use of computers in elementary
school curriculums. It has been a great course and my technical skills
have really improved. I am able to use computer-based tools to develop
lessons based upon technological resources. Some of the materials
include word processing, database, spreadsheets and Web publishing.
My teaching philosophy is that I believe every child is capable of
learning. Every child deserves a chance to learn and I try to create a
classroom atmosphere that reflects my beliefs. I continue to research
and include multicultural materials in my curriculum. In the future, I
hope to develop innovate and creative methods to reach children who
have been disenfranchised by the traditional school curriculum.
Teachers should acknowledge the impact of culture on literacy
development when creating lessons plans in our schools. By doing this
we establish an acceptable environment for learning and help bridge the
gap of communication. The excitement of seeing children learn to read
is awesome!
