Mood: a little lazy Fact of the day: In Hong Kong, it is legal for a wife to kill her infidel husband, but she has to use her bare hands. She can however, kill the mistress in whatever way she wants. Hmm... event of the week Going pubbing with Kiren this weekend maybe?
It's been such a long time I've updated! I'm been really really busy. Last night was the first night I actually got to sleep in my own bed for the past few days. Partly because I have got an essay due on Monday, then a midterm exam on Tuesday, and that I've been so distracted I didn't have time to do my work or study in the day, so I had to take up the whole night. The bed has never looked so tantalising...
Distracted mostly by cars..I've been looking and test-driving cars for the past few days. I don't even remember how many I've already seen, but none of which are totally satisfactory. There's one black sports car (Acura Legend) that feels really good when I was driving it [remember my weakness for black sports cars?] but it's got a really high mileage and I'm not sure I would want to take a risk and just buy it. Besides, it's a 2-door and I think a 4-door is more practical.
Then there's the Ford Tempo that has a really low mileage, looks ok, feels ok, but it's white and I don't like white, and it's a really big car, kinda scary to drive such a big car. Or how about the Toyota Camry that looks good, feels good, and cheap for its value. Well, though it's cheap for it's value, it's still not cheap and I really cannot afford it. Argh, damn.
So basically, all I do in the day, is go to classes in the morning, test drive cars in the afternoon, then agonize over the cars, analyze everything in the afternoon, then panick over my work at night. Sigh.
I really hope I can find a car soon.....
In other news, this archeology class is getting really quite interesting...I told a classmate that I'm taking it because I'm curious about the authenticity of the Bible and of course, he went on to talk to me about how Christianity is about faith and not about the truth. Hmm..but the fact that there are actually people out there who, for a professional career, take the Bible apart, analyse it, try to make logical conclusions about whether the events did happen, and still cannot come to concensus - it's totally amazing! So I will never actually know if those things actually did happen or not. There are some event that are strongly inclined towards being highly likely to be fictional (like the Flood), but there are others that are still very ambiguous (like the crossing of the Red Sea by the Israelites). So actually, I will never know! I also realised that the point of religion really is not about finding the real God anyway. It's a matter of committing to trusting that your god will not fail you. Somehow. Some people need assurances from facts to have the faith. But some don't. I guess I'm one of those who need a lot of assurances, which makes me a highly un-religious person. Also someone who's very difficult to preach to. Like my classmate who was talking to me about his relationship with God, I am mostly amazed by his faith, rather than impressed. Anyway, I still need to think more about this issue.... Oh yeah, by the way, the Isrealites did not cross the Red Sea. Rather, they crossed the Reed Sea - probably a fresh water lake, where there was a lot of papyrus reeds growing. Something to think about, for those who claim that the skeletons and remains of the Egyptians soldiers have been found at the bottom of the Red Sea... | |
