Officers and members work together in
an effort to create effective public relations campaigns for campus groups,
activities, and local businesses.
Officers are elected at the end of every spring semester. Qualifications to hold a position are based on your experience with public relations and your involvement in the Shippensburg University Chapter of PRSSA.
The positions officers hold are President, vice President, Secretary, Treasurer,
PR Director/Historian, National Liaison, and Webmaster. Current officers and
the positions they hold are listed below:
President - Crystal Falensky
I currently hold the position of PRSSA president. I am a Public Relations major
with a Speech Communications minor. During my time at Shippensburg, I have interned
at Carlisle Regional Medical Center and Sharp & Associates Entertainment
Public Relations Firm in California. I am also a writer for the Arts & Entertainment
section of the Slate. After graduation, I hope to begin a career in entertainment
public relations in Los Angeles. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with
my family and roommates, and listening to music. I strongly believe that PRSSA
has helped prepare me for the future in the public relations field.
Vice President - Jessica
Sundy
I am currently the vice president of PRSSA at Ship. I am a senior public relations
major with a minor of speech. I am also involved in a coed honors fraternity.
Being involved in several clubs allows me to learn leadership skills as well
as take a leadership position--and of course the skill of time management! I
have been a member of PRSSA since my sophomore year at Shippensburg. In my junior
year I took on the position of secretary. PRSSA is preparing me for what lies
ahead after graduation. I strongly encourage my fellow members to follow in
my footsteps.
Secretary - Chelsea Strobel
I am currently a junior Communications/Journalism major at Shippensburg University.
I am the current secretary of PRSSA. I have a concentration in PR, and this
is why I decided to get involved in PRSSA. I joined PRSSA in the fall of my
sophomore year. Just being an active member was not enough though, I wanted
to have more responsibility and contribute more time to the organization. My
main purpose of being the secretary was to be prepared for what lies ahead after
graduation.
Treasurer - Lacy Karosic
My name is Lacy Karosic and I am a sophomore at Shippensburg University.
After changing my major three times, I've finally settled on one in English
with a double minor in Communications/Journalism and Professional/Technical
Communications. I joined PRSSA in the fall semester of my sophomore year and
became the treasurer of Shippensburg's chapter of PRSSA in the spring of my
sophomore year. I'm becoming more and more intrigued by the art of public
relations and the exciting lifestyle it can offer. I am also a member of SUTV's
public relations team, the National Broadcasting Society and I write for the
Arts and entertainment section for The Slate. I am a firm believer that extracurricular
activities outside of the classroom are one of the most important things you
can do to market yourself in the real world.
PR Director/Historian - Dora
Housekeeper
So you want to know more about me. Let’s see… to start with I’m
a senior Comm/Journ major, with an emphasis in public relations, and a minor
in business. I currently hold the positions of PR Director/Historian in PRSSA,
and treasurer in Ship Partners. Between PRSSA and Ship Partners I stay very
busy, add classes and work to it and it doesn’t leave me with much free
time. The little time I have left is spent with my family--especially spoiling
my little niece--and friends, or doing one of my favorite things, sleeping.
Sorry to disappoint you if you thought my life would be more exciting but hopefully
one day I’ll land my dream job--doing PR for the Baltimore Orioles--and
then have more free time, allowing me to have a more exciting life!
National Liaison - Courtney
Ripple
Hello! My name is Courtney Ripple and I am a senior public relations major at
Shippensburg University. This year I am serving as National Liaison for our
PRSSA chapter. My job is to keep in contact with the national committee and
update our chapter on upcoming events and job/internship opportunities. Aside
from PRSSA I am account executive for Ship Partners, our student-run public
relations firm on campus. I oversee the Cumberland County Rails to Trails account.
I also spend 20 hours a week interning at the American Trauma Society, PA Division.
Last year I wrote for both our campus newspaper and our local paper. I encourage
all communications majors to get involved in campus media--experience is key!
The more you get, the further you will advance. So keep your options open and
get involved. Good luck!!
Webmaster - Josh Bealey
Greetings, I'm currently the webmaster for the Shippensburg Chapter of PRSSA.
This is my first year at Ship, although technically I'm a junior having just
transferred from HACC. I graduated with my AA degree from HACC in Computer
Information Systems and decided that rather than go into Computer Science
I would rather major in Comm/Journ instead. The tech stuff was fun but you
can only spend so long learning acronyms before that gets a little old. As
you can see I still enjoy the web-tech stuff though, and in my spare time
I fill in as tech-support for friends and family and fix their computers--so
yes, if you're having computer problems you too can feel free to give me a
shout ;-)
