Next regular meeting is 7pm, Tuesday, Feb 11 at KHYC. All are welcome! Feb 9, Brett and I worked on "Surf City" (a reciently donated Cal 20), mostly cleaning it up to get ready for the Midwinters PHRF race coming up Feb 15th & 16th. It is a nice boat! We plan on racing (more like following) the race in surf city, since we have no racing experience, but it is a start. We have an new (2nd) Lido 14 in our fleet now according to Bob Cole. Chris (skipper) says that EOS is nearly ready to go back into the water & will need a crew to bring it back to Long Beach. Dec 2002 News: Dec 30, Brett, Li & myself put "Surf City" in the water for the first time (for us). We got familiar with the boat, sailed it out a couple of miles & got back just before sunset. The wind was light at about 5 - 10 kts which was perfect for our first time out on her. Dec 15, Moved the Magellan back to Long Beach. Tony Cole, Brett & Ron Grassl moved the Magellan back to Long Beach. We left the dock (on a georgeous day) at 9:30 and arrived at the Arco dock at 1:30. We removed the rest of the Christmas decorations during the trip. We were planning to move Calliope also but did not get enough crew for both boats, so Brett and I moved Calliope to the guest dock where it will remain for a few days while we scare up crew to move it to Long beach. Dec 14 King Harbor Christmas Boat Parade. We joined the parade in the Magellan. Seascouts Bill Coen, Brett Grassl and Li Shen piloted the Magellan around the harbor in grand style. All went very well. We received many compliments on our boat. My wife made a Sea Scout Ship 618 banner that was also displayed, so I think we must have gotten pretty good exposure to the good crowds there. Now that we have experience, next year should be great. Dec. 11th 7pm Xmas Parade Decorating Seminar 8pm Skippers meeting. I attended these and won a nice life jacket in the raffle, which I will donate to the ship.
