| I started my journey in martial arts at the age of 9 or 10 in a budo art which is now established as Genjitsu. This is what laid the foundation of my movement through the concept of Genjitsu. At almost 16 I graded and passed my 1st Dan Black Belt which I believe was my first large stepping stone in my martial arts career and greatly increased my confidence and out look on life as an adolescent. After passing my 1st Dan and acquiring a thirst for more I set out to grade for my 2nd Dan over a 3 year grading period. Through out the 3 years I developed physically and mentally as I grew with both my martial arts skill improving and my muscular physique & strength increasing through training & becoming a young adult. At this stage in 1995 I was approached to start teaching as an assistant and decided to take up the offer so at this point I could pass on the knowledge I had learned through my seven years of Genjitsu. After passing my 2nd Dan I had found that the next challenge for me would be opening my own club arose so in November 1999 I opened the Genjitsu-Preston club were I was the club coach along with Stephen Booth. I passed my 3rd Dan in 2000 which hopefully set a standard for all other students to follow. At this point I started training in a few styles to improved my standard. These were tai chi for a short time wushu for flexibility which lead me into chinese weapon work such as the cudgal, spear, broadsword, straight sword, nine section chain whip and more..... This was around the time when I started training in Torite Jutsu. I have shaped several students from the Preston-Genjitsu & now have a few approaching their first stepping stone 1st Dan Black Belt. Early in 2004 I completed developing a system of martial arts which incorportes key word psychology to teach its techniques which incorporate a high level of throwing, locking, pressure point striking, enhanced body mechanics and a whole haust of Japanes & Chinese weapons. This System is what is now known as SHIN KAI DO Way of the Open Mind |
| Summer 2007 I am currently studying the Crazy Monkey Defence Program. Phil Wright from the Stockport Submission Club is doing an excellent job with the delivery of the new material and is an excellent coach. Since the creation of the SKD System in 2004, it has evolved at a speedy rate. It has met around 60% of its goals as a functional system and is ever increasing year upon year. With new goals set for the next 2 years for developement I hope to acheive a higher Functional % across a wider range of body types. |
