"Nick, what are you doing here?"  Liz asked him, fully knowing that he still lived in Tampa.
"I'm gonna leave the two of you alone," AJ said, slapping Nick on the back as he walked away.
"I still live here.  Why are you here?"  Nick asked.  He was still angry with her, two years later.  When they had broken up, he hadn't been able to release all the hate.  He had managed to bury it, but seeing Liz again brought it all back to the surface, along with all his pain.
Liz felt tears burning under her eyelids.  She could tell by the look on his face that he hated her.  It went far beyond contempt or dislike and Liz had never had anyone look at her that way.  "I got a job down here," Liz said barely audible and without looking Nick in the eyes.
"Here?!  Why here?!  Were there no other cities in the world with jobs for you?  Damn it Liz, why Tampa?"  Nick was shouting at her, right up in her face.  A nightclub was not the appropriate place for a fight that had been brewing for two years, but the more Nick looked at her the less he could help it.
Liz had enough.  If Nick wanted a fight in public, she was gonna give him one.  "Fuck you Carter!  You don't own Tampa!  Are you so self-centered that you think the sun rises and sets on you?  Did it ever occur to you that my decision to move here had absolutely nothing to do with you?"  Liz felt the tears rolling down her cheeks.  She was never one to let people see her cry, but right now she could care less.
"Don't make me the bad guy in all of this, Liz.  Who cheated on who?  Who ruined the relationship?  Huh? Answer me Liz."  When she didn't reply, Nick's heart said to back off, but his mouth didn't get that message.  "C'mon Liz, who was whoring around with every guy in town while I was away?  Did you think I would never catch you or that you might be able to explain it all away?"  Nick grabbed Liz by the shoulders as she turned to walk away, forcing her to look in his eyes.  "Answer me, damn it.  I loved you Liz."  Nick heard his own voice crack and it was then that her realized he was crying himself.  He saw the fear in Liz's eyes and let go of her arms.   "More than anything or anyone Liz, I loved you."  His face was soaked in tears by now.  Nick couldn't ever remember any other girl that had made him cry so hard or as much.
"I loved you too," Liz said before pushing him out of the way and forcing her way through the people and out of the club.
Nick slammed his fists against the wall before turning himself to go find Liz.
Liz busted out of the club doors and into the cool fall rain.  She searched for a place to sit, but couldn't find her car.  She slumped down against the brick wall of the outside of the  club and put her head in her hands and cried.  She felt someone sit down next to her, but didn't look around.  She knew it was Nick.  She heard him crying too. "I'm so sorry Nick.  I never meant to hurt you," Liz said keeping her eyes straight ahead.
Nick turned his head to look at her face and noticed she wasn't  looking at him, but rather straight ahead.  He turned his own head to look ahead.  "I know," was all he said.

When I look into your eyes
I see a love restrained
But darling when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same
Cause nothing lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And its hard to hold a candle
In cold November rainh
But lovers always come and lovers always go
No one's really sure who's letting go today
Walking away
