| "I had a really good time today," Lexa said to Nick as they pulled into her driveway. "Me too, but you know what, the day doesn't have to end now, it's only five o'clock." Nick said as he put the Durango in reverse and left the driveway. "Um, where are we going?" Lexa asked, a bit confused. "I thought maybe we could go to a baseball game." Nick wasn't sure where that came from, but it was the first thing that came into his mind. Plus they were only 15 minutes from the stadium. "Okay, but do you have tickets?" "No, but we could probably get some, the Rays barely ever sell out." "Can I borrow your phone to call my mom, she is expecting me home by six." "Sure," Nick answered, handing Lexa his cell phone. Lexa dialed her home number and waited for her mom to pick up. "Hey mom?Listen I'm going to a baseball game with Nick?Yeah I had a good time today?Nah mom, nothing like that?Yes I'm sure?Urgh mom, enough. I'll see you when I get home." Lexa hit the end button on the phone and looked over at Nick. "My mother is absolutely impossible. Its like a damn foreign concept for her that guys and girls can be just friends." 'Friends?' Nick thought to himself. Oh well, if that's where it has to start, so be it. "Yeah, my mom is the same way." "It must be the mom gene." Nick smiled as he pulled into the parking lot. Nick and Lexa made their way to the ticket booth. "Hi. Are there any tickets left for tonight's game?" "How many?" "Two please." "Alright, there are two left for main level seating." "Thanks, we'll take them." Nick took the tickets and went into the stadium. Lexa stopped them at a concession stand. "How much do I owe you?" Lexa asked, rifling around in her purse for some cash. Nick stared back at her in disbelief. "No, I don't want your money. This was my idea, so I'll pay for it." "Well at least let me buy you a hot dog." "It's a deal." The two got their food and went to find their seats. "Ya know, I hate to break it to you, but I'm not a huge rays fan." Lexa said once they sat down. "Yeah, I kind of figured." "What's that supposed to mean? How could you have known? And if you did, who do I like?" Lexa asked, challenging Nick. "The Yankees," Nick said, smiling at a confused looking Lexa, "One, you are a native New Yorker, which leaves the Mets and Yankees. Then it was a fifty-fifty chance on my part." "Well, you're right. I'm very impressed." Lexa ended, turning her attention back to the game. "Hey, thanks again Nick. That was a really fun time." Lexa said as the walked to the car. "Really? I was worried that since you weren't a rays fan that you wouldn't be interested." Nick replied as he opened the passenger side door. "Really. A nice way to end the day." Lexa got in the car and waited for Nick. After a few moments she spoke again. "So are the Backstreet Boys touring anytime soon?" "Huh? Oh, no not right now. We are finishing up the next album for release in November and then maybe a tour." "Well if you are ever in my neck of the woods, I'd love to come see a show." "I thought you didn't like our music, so why come to a show." "First, I never said I didn't like your music, I'm just not obsessed. Second, I know you now so it would be cool to see you at work." "Well I'll get you tickets as long as you promise to spend that day in New York with me." "It's a deal." Lexa said smiling at Nick, who glanced quickly over to her before returning his attention to the road. Soon they were parked in the driveway to her home. "I had a good time today. We should do it again someday." Lexa said, hoping for another invite. "Yeah, definitely," Nick replied, looking at Lexa. Lexa couldn't help but wonder what kissing him may be like, sitting there staring at him. For a moment, she was sure that he would but all of a sudden the door to her home slammed shut. "Where have you been?" Lexa heard a familiar voice yell. "Who is that?" Nick asked as Lexa got out of the car, causing Nick to follow. "What are you doing here?" Lexa asked, throwing her arms around the mystery girl. "Well, I needed a vacation, so I thought, lets go see my favorite baby cousin." Nick scuffed his feet on the driveway, to remind Lexa of his presence. "Oh, Nick, I'm so sorry. That is so rude of me. Nick, this is my cousin Angela, Ang, this is Nick, a friend of mine." "Nice to meet you Angela." "Same here Nick." Angela said as the two shook hands. The three of them stood awkwardly around for a few moments until Nick broke the silence. "Well, I'm gonna get going. I'll give you a call." Nick said, half stating, half asking. "Yeah, sure that sounds good. Maybe we could all go out tomorrow night." "Cool. See you later. Ang, it was nice to meet you." "Bye." Lexa said as her and Ang both waved goodbye. As soon as Nick's car was out of sight, Ang latched onto Lexa's arm. "So who's this Nick guy and why is he bringing you home at 11 o'clock at night." "Let's go inside and I'll tell you all about it." |
