Duo POV
"Wufei?" I looked at him carefully with my arms wrapped tightly
around one knee. The other leg dangled over the edge of the bed and
a small strike of my skin above my sock was visible. It was white, and
scarred on two places where it had hit a stick in Deathscythe's cockpit.
When he looked up at me, questioning, I let my eyes drop and I stared
down at the elbow around my leg.
"Do you think we'll ever be normal?”
*******
"Right, Heero?"
"What?" He looked up at me with a small scowl in his face.
The Heero Yuy Trade Mark scowl.
"The war will end, right? Right?" My question was spoken
in a light tone but I knew he understood how serious I was because the
scowl disappeared almost immediately and was replaced by something I
couldn't read.
He didn't answer me.

"We'll be together after the war, won't we?"
Quatre looked up, startled, and fixed his eyes upon me. I'm almost
certain that his eyes had become a shade darker and much glossier than
usual. It was completely quiet for a while and I was almost sure that
he would never answer my question. I looked past his head, out of the
window and caught sight of the moon. Was it my imagination, or was the
light fader than usual? Just as I was about to go away, without having
received an answer, he replied.
"I hope so, Duo." His voice trembled faintly.
I knew that my question had been stupid, since we would all be dead
at the time.

The sounds from the battlefield had finally calmed, and no screams
could be heard anymore. Faint mist and dust mixed together made it impossible
to see and I didn't know how many of my friends that were yet among
living. Suddenly, the com-link sparkled into working again after having
given up during the battle, and I could hear Trowa’s voice saying
something I couldn't hear.
"Trowa, are we still alive?"
