Maaya's Favourite Characterizations
Exactly what it says. I have rec-ed some of these fics in other sections, some not, but I promise that they are all very good and worthy to read. Just keep in mind that I don't necessarily like canon characters - at least not all the time. When I really like a story I usually like all of the characters, but I'll try not to rec the same fic too many times. ~_^ Please, do also remember that I can like evil characters too. This section most often shows fictions that made me love and care for the character though. My opinion folks, *my* opinion!

Back to Main

Heero Yuy

- Moments of Haven by Jei give me a very steady, calm and likeable Heero that feels impossible not to love. He has that calm . . logic and strange way of reassure people, so how can you not love him? The way he acts around Duo is loveable! (1+2)

- Shinigami's Lover Series by Kracken. I can admit I thought Heero was a very uncaring bastard in the beginning of this arc, but I soon realized that he was just. . . being Heero. He doesn't show his emotions just like that, does he? He is, like in the rec above, very steady and that's why I love him. He never seems to be unsure about anything and it is just what Duo seems to need in this story. (1x2x1, 3x4x3)

- The Interfacing Series by Artemis and The Czarina Merquise. Heero just feels so canon I can't believe it! The way he acts, how he shows his emotions (or rather, doesn't show his emotions), his temper . . . everything! (6x2, 1x5?)

- Soldier Boys by Kracken. Let's just say that I really, really like the way Kracken portrays Heero, okay? I have already rec-ed Heero as he is described in Shinigami's Lover, but I fell to deeply in love with him in this story to ignore it. I just had to rec him! This is another Heero I think is so completely IC it makes me amazed. He's got this hard surface and mind set on the mission, but still has an adorable inside . . . and a crush on Duo. (1+2, 3+4)

Duo Maxwell

- The Ion Series by Sunhawk gives me a Duo that is sarcastic, caring, proud, and very, very easy to love. He feels very . . . guy-like if you know what I mean. Male-ish? He is proud, have personality and fears. Needless to say, I love him! An excellent characterization, I tell you! (1x2x1, 3x4x3)

- Acherontia Atropos + sequel by Katsu are wonderful, mostly in the same way as The Ion Series. This story is also written in first person POV (Duo's) and his voice feels very canon to me. Sarcastic, joking but still very, very . . . dark. (1+2, 3+4)

- Soldiers and Fools by LoneWolf have a very canon Duo. I could leave it like that, but it would feel too short. Anyway, I think he is *very* canon in this story and LoneWolf has added small quirks and likeable things in his personality that only makes you love Duo even more than before. The way he acts around Heero is also very well written. (1+2)

- Asylum by Spooks is also, like the two first recs, written in Duo's POV and what a POV then! It left me breathless, smiling and scared at the same time. It is sudden, funny, dark and very well written. (1+2, 3+4, 5+M)

- Of Cats and Wolves by Sol 1056. If there is one adorable Duo characterization in the fandom, then it is Sol's in this story. Completely, absolutely adorable! He reminds me of characters in Shakespeare comedies like 'Much Ado About Nothing' or 'Twelfth Night' or 'The Taming of the Shrew' - fun, cute and absolutely wonderful. Though not very IC in this story, so is Duo still an overall great character. And, well, Duo as a half fox is just bound to be cute, right? (1+2, 3+4, 5+M)

Trowa Barton

- Closing Time Arc by Shoori. Shoori writes a more emotional and uke Trowa, but not, oh Gods, certainly not a wimp. He's gone through a lot, you know, and keeps this strange. . . sadness he has during the series. If you look for an angsty Trowa, then you should read this story. (1x2x3, 5x4)

- Rattlesnakes by trixie have a great Trowa. He is cool, sarcastic and has a wonderfully great . . . dry sense of humor. His attitude would probably have annoyed me in real life but to read about him is very interesting and amusing. Why can't more people write their Trowas like this? (3x2)

- Thinking about Forever by Anria. *sigh* Of all the authors on the net, only three have managed to make me care for Trowa. So the fact that Anria is one of them has to say something, right? Do I need to tell you that it is an absolutely lovely Trowa in this story? (1x2x3)

Quatre Raberba Winner

- The Murder Saga by Karen. Quatre is sarcastic, spontaneous and overall a great guy. His POV in this story has to be one of the most amusing . . . ever. His angst mixed together with a great deal of inescapable sarcasm has made me love him. He is so not a wimp in this saga! (3x4, 1x2, 1xR)

- Bildungsroman by Lorena. One of the most amusing Quatres I have ever read. He acts normal; he is worried, unsure but oh-so great! Lovely and . . . funny. Very, very funny indeed. (3x4, OMC+4, 2x1x2, 5+OMC)

- Over Coffee by girl_starfish. I can't say if he is IC or not in this story, but his POV is very nice to read. He is a person, with individual thoughts and feelings. Not very sarcastic/tough in this story, but not that fusspot-kinda-guy people seem to refer him as. (many people+4, 4+?)

NEW - Broken Jade by Sol 1056. You know, Quatre has always struck me as the most mature out of the five pilots. He's responsible, a fine tactican (what does that have to do with being grown-up?) and he takes care of some of the Winner business at the age of fifteen. He's a nice, sensitive, young man. I'm growing pretty tired of him written as a mother-hen, female-ized guy. What I like about this Quatre is that he really act like that in Broken Jade. Not overly worried (though he has a good reason to be) but a calm, levelheaded good friend. (1+3, 1+2+3?)

Wufei Chang

- Road Trip by Sunhawk. I love Sunhawk's stories because she refuses to write the guys too stereotypical, and she seems to have developed a liking in Wufei. Our normally nose-bleeding, justice-ranting irritated Chinese man becomes a generally great guy in Sunhawk's stories. He is quiet, thoughtful, caring and proud. He is . . . someone I really, really like. (1x2, 3x4, slight 5+2)

- Acherontia Atropos by Katsu. I know, I know - I've already rec-ed this story with Duo's character, but face it guys; Wufei is a great guy when he is written the good way. I love his character almost as much as I love Duo but sadly, people seem to transform him into a real jerk. Katsu is a great exception of that rule though. Now when I think about it, Sunhawk and Katsu write very alike, both in style and characterizations. (1+2, 3+4)

NEW - Great America by Casey Valhalla. Heh. Wufei is in this story the one to tag along, give sarcastic comments, but stay with his friend 'til the end. I haven't seen Wufei ever being written like this before, and I love it. Really love it. He's probably one of the things that makes this story a wonderful read. (along with the plot, the road-trip, the lovely relationships, interesting characters and warm feelings...) 1+2

NEW - Loving Dragons by Link Worshiper. I'm admitting it. Next after Duo, Wufei is my favorite GW boy. Why does it have to be so damn hard to find decent Wu-characterizations? This is awesome though - I think he is very IC in this story. And the concept of the story mirrors Wufei's place among hisfellow pilots. (5+M+5, 13+5+13, 5+S+5, 1x2x1, 3x4x3)

Relena Peacecraft/Darlian

- Bridlewood Manor by Mitsugi. I do, of course, love all the characters in this wonderful story but decided to rec Relena because she feels canon. She is a girl, no more, no less, and she has too much influence and responsibility in the world. Still, she manages to handle it quite well considering. Relena is a person in this story and she has a personality. Thank God for people who gives her one. ^_^ (1+2, 3+4, 5+H, OMC+R, 6+9)

- Truth or Dare by Arigatomina. Well, I told you I could love evil characterizations too, didn't I? This is a good example. I *hate* Relena in this story, really, really hate her! And still, I rec her - why? Well, this is a good example of the RFO - Relena-bashing syndrome, where Relena is a complete bastard and causes great Duo angst. How can I not enjoy this characterization once in a while? (1x2)

- The Murder Saga by Karen. Karen is one of the few authors who take up the Heero - Duo - Relena love triangle in a good and realistic way. Relena acts like a person would in her situation (not like an unforgiving, annoying bitch with a Heero-obsession) and the only reason I disliked her was because I wanted Heero and Duo to be together. Still, this is on of the best Relena's on the net! (3x4, 1x2, 1xR)

- What You Became to Me by Tabs. A little snipped of a happy future. No jealousy, no anger, no sadness. Love is the theme of the day. *dreamy sigh* (OMC+R, 1+2, 3+4)

Dorothy Catalonia

- Damnation by Koyote. I, personally, think that it is hard, very hard to find decent, likeable-written Dorothys in this fandom. And when you finally find one, she is barely there at all. This is an exception. Dorothy is cool, sarcastic and has a dry sense of humor. Still, she is a soldier down into the soul, though you can see that she also feels lonely. (6+2+D)

- Kyuuketsuki Duo by Jei. If there is one author that have managed to write Dorothy exactly the way I interpreted her from Gundam Wing, then it is Jei. I simply *adore* Doro in KD! She has this . . . wierd fascination for power that makes her character rather unique in the GW TV-series. (1+2, 5+M)

Sally Po

- Bridlewood Manor by Mitsugi. She's a feminist. She's a doctor, though people didn't approve of it. She is independent. She is overall a very, very cool chick. Think about it guys, she is a female doctor during the beginning of the twentieth century - she is bound to be accepting and a strong individual. I just love her in this story! And her personality . . . I admire her in this story! (1+2, 3+4, 5+H, 6+9, OMC+R)

- Greased Wing by the Fablespinner. In this story, Sally is best friends with the GW-boys and together with one of them. She is independent, like in the rec above, and playful, though responsible. She is cool - I love her! ~_^ (3x4, 1x2, 5xS)

- Liturgy Menuetto by Lorena (A Sequel to Chiaroscuro). Hey, Sally as a shounen ai fan is just bound to be cool, right? She, together with Noin, liven things up in this story! (3x4, 2x1x2)

- Picaresque by Loreena. Well, I guess I just like my Sally strong and proud and as a feminist. *shrugs* As childish as it sounds; girl power. I adore her. (3+4, 2+1)

Lady Une

- More Dangerous Liaisons by Christine. (Sequel to Dangerous Liaisons) 'Kay, I rec-ed the sequel mostly because you see more of Une in this story than in the prequel and . . . I'm going to rec Dangerous Liaisons another time on this page. It is hard to find IC Une characterizations, and this one maybe isn't more so than others, but I've still come to love her in this story. (13x2, 6x13, Howardx2, 1x5, 3x4, 11+R)

- Duo's Inbox by girl_starfish. I know, I know, she's not exactly the main character in this story. In fact, she is almost only mentioned a couple of times, but what a mention then! H. I. L. A. R. I. O. U. S. Do I need to spell it again? She seems so freakin' cool! (5+2, 1+2, 11+13, R+1, R+3)

- Gundam Wing Genesis by Ashkara. A kick-ass lady Une - what more can you ask for? Cool, smart and a great head for the Preventers. ^_^ (1x2x1, 3x4x3, 5xS)

Hilde Schbeiker

- A Guy Thing by Sunhawk. I, for one, can admit I really don't like Hilde all that much. She's decent, I guess, and I like her more than Relena, but she rarely gets any spotlight, in the series and otherwise. I'm not sure why. But once again, Sunhawk has come to my rescue with writing a nice and cool Hilde. She reminds me of Duo in this story, and is very proud. (no pairings)

- Ambiguous by Zooie. A dialogue piece starring Duo and Hilde. Very amusing conversation with a very cool Hilde. (no pairings)

- The Prince of Nekheb by Lady Bast. Whoa. I think this fic convinced me that Hilde is a cool character. I mentioned above that I didn't like her very much, but I think I have changed my mind. In this story, Hilde is strong and stubborn, but also very, very nice and likeable. Thanks, Vesper, for pointing this fic out. (3x4, 2x4, 2xH)

Catherine Bloom

- The Closing Time Arc by Shoori. It's hard to find Catherines that is actually likeable, and when you do, Trowa hangs around and is more loveable than her. I guess that's just the fate of her person - she is mostly written like a psycho bitch with strange affection for knives and is overly protective of Trowa - leading to problems in their relationship with each other. This, ladies and gentlemen, is an exception. Cathy and Trowa are very close to each other and I found myself actually liking Catherine rather much. (1x2x3, 5x4)

Lucrezia Noin

- Webs of Betrayal by Dyna Dee. I don't know about you guys, but I have a hard time trying to find especially likeable Noin characterizations in those fics I read. (And I usually read stories about Duo as the main character, if you haven't already figured that one out.) Anyway, Dyna Dee seems to write decent Noin in my eyes, and I think that she is rather IC in this story. I found that I liked her, even as she seemed to be 'the bad guy' (1x2, 3x4, 1xR, 3+2?)

- Second Chances by Dyna Dee. Hey, I told you I liked how Dyna writes Noin. ~_^. The saviour when Duo is depressed, how can I not like her in this story? (1x2, OMC+2, 3x4, 5+R, 6x9)

- At First Sight by Ariana. O_O - IC Noin! I know that a lot of people are going to argue about this, but; I think Noin is mostly built out of the love she feels for Zechs. Sure, she's got a personality, but the main issues and conflicts in her heart are because of Zechs. Anyway, this is a perfect characterization of her! (6x1, past 2x1)

Zechs Marquise/Milliardo Peacecraft

- Princes and Soldiers by Kracken. Kracken is one of very few authors that write a Zechs that I like and cares about, and the best is her story Princes and Soldiers. Zechs is the 'fearless' leader and commander who refuse to feel any emotions as they can be liabilities on the battlefield. And then a Duo comes along and destroys anything . . . I like that a lot! (6x2, 1+2-friendship)

- Chains by RazorQueen. He's dark. He's lonely. He's a cop. He's too goddamn cool for words! ~_^ (6x2)

Treize Khushrenada

- Dangerous Liaisons by Christine. I thought for a long time when I came to Treize's section but then I suddenly realized how stupid I had been. Dangerous Liaisons is one of my all time faves so how could I forget about it!? Anyway, here we find a very well-written Treize - he's elegant, smart, cunning and honourable, just like he is in the series! A very IC Treize! (13x2, 3x4, 1x5, 11+13)

NEW - Smells Like Teen Spirit by Link Worshiper. Ever heard of Treize the dude? Well, this is him, in person. More relaxed than the usual Treize, but oh, so enjoyable. ^_^

Meiran Chang

- Asylum by Spooks. It's very, very hard to find fics where Meiran is even *in* the story as a main-character, though I like her better than Sally. (I refer her over Sally as they are both most often paired with Wufei.) She's a kick-ass girl who can fight 'real'. (With real, I mean without guns or weapons.) Even Wufei respects her. So why is it so hard to find Meiran in fan fictions? Yeah, yeah I know she's dead and all, but that's hardly a reason to keep her so in AUs, right? *cough, cough* Anyway, she's cool in this story, Really cool. (1x2, 3x4, 5+M)

- Kyuuketsuki Duo by Jei. Okay, so I have already rec-ed Dorothy in this story, but I really can't help but rec Meiran too. I like strong females and despite to popular belief so are there many strong females in GW. It is sad that most people neglect them in order to write yaoi without any obstacles like jealous girls. ( Though Meiran is an exception as she's only able to appear in AUs and pre-series fics. ) The point with this rant? I love Meiran. She, Une and Dorothy are my favourite gals from GW. I want to see more of her in the future, darn it! *remembers she has to say something about Meiran in this story* Well . . . she's strong, understanding and a perfect match for Wufei. ~_^ (1+2, 5+M)

Sister Helen

- Soul Forge by Zooie. Helena is one of the few characters that is written IC almost all the time, and the main reason for that is probably that she doesn't have any personality. Pick a nun, throw some caring and love for Duo into the mix and then she's done. Still, I love her in Zooie's story because she is realistic. Not perfect, but trying. (no pairings)

Howard

- Everything Beautiful by Sparcck. It's surprising how little spotlight Howard gets in Gundam Wing fan fictions, ne? He's a friend to Duo so he should get at least some fans. I like how the people who actually write Howard, as a good friend slash father figure to our favourite Deathscythe pilot. In this story, Howard has a background, something I really, really like. ^_^ (Howard & Duo study)

Mariemeia Khushrenada/Barton

- Porcelain by Spooks has a very nice Marie, who acts like the teenager she is. She is a natural person, who wishes for friends and . . . boyfriends. Her relationship with Wufei is rather sweet in this story too. (1x2, 3x4, 5xR, OMC+Marie)

- More Dangerous Liaisons by Christine. (sequel to Dangerous Liaisons) I love how Christine makes me care about characters I usually don't like, in this story especially Une, Treize and Mariemeia. Marie is a smart kid, very smart, but still sweet. She is good to Duo and respects him. It's amusing to see how protective she is too. (13x2, 3x4, 1x5, 6x13, Howardx2, 11+R)

Original Characters

I usually don't really like OCs, but those I *do* like are definitely worth mentioning on this page ^_^ If it appears to actually be a guy I don't know about from another anime/manga or something like that . . . just send me a mail and give me some salt to go with my foot, okay?

- Kaylin Reinmann from And Never the Twain Shall Meet by Steve Parker. I am almost completely sure this is the first OC I ever cared about enough to feel for as much as the gundam pilots so he is definitely worth a place in this section. (1x2x1, 3x4x3, 5xKaylin)

- Urqhart from Cross My Heart by Becca Abbott. Well, what can I say? I don't care about this guy nor should I feel sad if he died. In fact, I really hate him. But it is just an example of the Maaya-evil-character-syndrome so don't worry. I just enjoy those evil guys once in a while and this is the classical bully in all kind of ways ~_^ (1x2, 1+4, 3+4)

- Marcus Wyndham from Bridlewood Manor by Mitsugi. Hey, I like this little guy, he's friendly, cool and fun. And a perfect friend to Relena. (1+2, 3+4, 5+H, Marcus+R)

- Taylor from Chiaroscuro by Lorena. I admit I thought Taylor was annoying when I first 'met' him but further into the story, I found I liked him. He's kinda fun, in a bizarre way. (3x4, 2x1x2, 5+OMC, Taylor+4)

- Brian's mother from Moments of Haven by Jei. This is a special case, because she never appears in the story, just mentioned in a part. Still, I immediately liked her, though the only things I know about her is that she was warm, smelled like gingerbread and liked yellow. *shrugs* I just liked her. (1+2)

- Mikkie from Curing Homosexuality by Erin Cayce. He just . . . understands Duo in a way so I couldn't help but love him! (1+2, Mikkiex2)

- Toria Brannigan from Ion Series by Sunhawk. Did you really think I would have this section and not rec my favourite OC of all times? Tsk. Toria is one of the most well made OCs in fanfictions I have ever read about and I so love her attitude to everything in general. She's cool ~_^ (1x2, 3x4)

- Griff from Ion Series by Sunhawk. He is loud, bossy and generally cool. The fact that he 'likes' Duo adds to his good sides. (1x2, 3x4)

If you know a fic with what you think are very good characterizations, then you can tell me and I'll read the fic. If I like it, I might even rec it. This is most welcome for characters like Noin, Treize and those I haven't found many fics on. Remember that I like most fics where Duo is a main-character. ~_^. Oh, and I'll add more characters as soon as I come up with good fics with them.
