Lately I have really been digging the earlier works of Sandwich,
back when Raimund Marasigan and Marc Abaya were a very
formidable duo.
To share the backstage with those two was just overwhelming. Although
they have since parted waysMarc focusing on Kjwan and Raimund
taking care of sole vocal dutiesI was able to have both of their
pictures.

with Raimund Marasigan of Sandwich (and Eraserheads).

No Parking with (a slimmer) Jorel Corpuz,
Marc Abaya and
Boogie Romero of Kjwan.
But Raimund and Marc never did share the backstage that night, even
once.
Maybe just a scheduling kink. Kjwan played very early. And as far as I
know, there is no bad blood between them as opposed to Raimund's much
more former bandmate.
I was humming Butterfly Carnival and Food for the Soul
while observing each of them from afar. I may have been a performer that
night, but after our set were through, I am really just a fan.
Only difference is that I have a backstage pass.
Beat that!

Gossip folk that I am.
Raimund and Myrene Academia, bassist of Sandwich and Imago, were
both from UPD Masscomm. Raimund and I are coursemates.
They have a daughter, Atari.
But over the gigs that I have shared with Sandwich, rare do I see any
interaction between the two. Of course, I was thinking they normally
have gigs so it isn't a big deal.
Curiosity always gets the better of me, though. I found it sweet when
Raimund escorted Myrene to the backstage of that November 2006 Masscomm gig (Rock
Back to School), even though only Imago has a gig that night.
And I found it sweeter when in the backstage of the Freshie Concert, I
chanced upon Raimund giving Myrene a back massage with his elbow .
Sweeeet.

You know, Alden Acosta of Callalily is really my boy, err, man.
Heck, I knew him when he was still 14 and with short hair.
We were the envoys of NCR for a national editorial writing
contest in Cebu back in 2003.
Fittingly, the three of us boys were already playing the guitar
back then in the guitar capital that is Cebu. Athough
for some strange reason, I really didn't know that Alden could play it
at that time.
Now who has it as a bread and butter now?
I just find it interesting that as innocent-looking as he is today...
...how much more four years ago?

NCR English Editorial Team. Cebu, February 2003.
I hooked up with him after Callalily's explosive set during the Freshie Concert.
He recognized me from a throng of fans. Of course, I had to step back a
little for the customary autograph-signing and picture-taking session.
After all the hysteria faded, I introduced him to Norman first and then
to Love. We had a little talk show going. Both lead guitarists were
talking about scales in major, minor, pentatonic, and blues.
Don't mess with these two.
What if I trade our lead
guitarist for Alden?
Alden's sister also took up Broadcast Communication at PUP
and he was wondering if I could provide some insights. Of course I
could, and this is not twisted. From my experience, Masscomm is
dismissed as easy. Although Broadcast Communication in UP mostly
appealed to me as a course for anyone wanting to step into the
limelight, it is with good reason...
Cheche Lazaro, Loren Legarda, Luchi Cruz-Valdez, Pia
Guanio, Ivan Mayrina, Direk Maryo J. de los Reyes, Anna Theresa Licaros,
Pinky Aseron ('The subsriber cannot be reached...'), Jo
Santos, Atty. Chito Avecilla, DJ Chico,
Giselle Sanchez, Tuesday Vargas,
Ate Glo, Miro Valera, Myrene Academia, Ely Buendia, Raimund
Marasigan, Patricia Ann Roque, Julius Belotindos...
Communicator, journalist, researcher, filmmaker, newscaster, reporter,
radio announcer, theater performer, artist, musician, entertainer...
there are many roads one can take in my chosen field to impact society.
So don't take Masscomm lightly!
(UP CMC is on its way
to update the curriculum for Broadcast Communication to keep up with
technology and the demands of the industry).
Masscomm always entails hard work! Hard, hard work!
Don't dare underestimate people of the arts.
I guess that's what I'll tell Alden's sister.
Anyway, Alden invited NP to jam with him one time. But we will only
oblige if he can say punto de vista three times in a row.
Kidding, Kiddo.
I have a feeling our paths will intertwine more over the years.

From the moment I stepped on stage, adrenaline and anxiety mingled
together inside my very system, numbing my hands, drying up my throat.
But you came.
And I saw you with each beat, with each note, with each movement and
with each song.
A smile is a very calming influence.
But not just any smile would do.
It had to be yours.
That made the difference.
More than any picture I had or band celebrity I met.
The Freshie Concert was magical.
But you were the caps-locked M in magical.
Thank you.
If I could pay Raimund Marasigan and Sandwich to play Kalendaryo,
I would.

So much for off-days.
I just finished my first week of work as a researcher for Quick Jump
Network Corporation. It's a 24/7 website that dishes out the latest news and updates
of the hottest games from the hottest platforms.
We're talking Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, and Wii.
I moved my off-day from Sunday to Friday so that I could make it to the
Freshie Concert.
I can't thank the Lord enough. NP is really, really favored.
Well, it's off the backstage and back to reality.
Lennon got it point-blank when he came up with this:
"...that a man must break his back
to earn his day of leisure..."
- The Beatles, Girl
I have no complaints in my current situation. Last week I was on the 2pm
to 10pm shift. My request for shift change was granted and by Monday I
will be re-assigned to the 6am to 2pm shift. My off-days will be
Thursdays and Saturdays.
I just have to sort out how to get by with finishing work this Sunday
at 10pm and returning at 6am for my Monday post.
Gulp. Sunday is three minutes away from today.
