| The 70's was a groovy decade during which we enjoyed our last stage of pure happiness as children and the first exciting stage of youth in total bliss. It was also a very crucial period over which we developed the foundation of our lives. It was a real blessing that we were too young to remember the darker side of the 70's with feelings. The world was busy with its problems like the Vietnam War, Watergate, Iranian Hostage Crisis - to name a few that I can vaguely remember seeing on TV. The only misfortunate events in my memories of Hongkong were the stock market crash and a disastrous land slide that caused the collapse of a residential building at mid-levels during a typhoon. It took many lives and the site is said to be haunted to this present day. The major influences we encountered in the 70's, apart from puberty and first love - were probably the brilliant pop music, the outrageous fashion, the unforgettable movies, and the TV programs that we couldn't have lived without as city kids in Hongkong, especially Japanese animation. We listened to : Bee Gees, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Eagles, ELO, 10cc, Bread, KC & the Sunshine Band, David Bowie, Blondie, Santana, Crystal Gayle, Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Marvin Gaye, Al Jareau, England Dan & John Ford Coley, ABBA, Willie Nelson, Doobie Brothers, Queen, The Cars, Joe Cocker, The Knack, Bette Midler, Carly Simon, The Doors, Roberta Flack, Natalie Cole, Lanni Hall, Deep Purple, Devo, Melissa Manchester, Johnny Mathis, Maxim Nightingale, Captain & Tenille, Donny & Marie Osmond, Sugar Hill Gang, Bay City Rollers, The Pointer Sisters, Chic, Cat Stevens, Commodores, Olivia Newton John, Elton John, Cool & the Gang, Village People, Pink Floyd, Toto, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Kenny Roger, Dolly Parton, Andy Gibb, John Denver, Glenn Campbell, Barbara Steisand, Michael Jackson, Carpenter, Sisters Sledge, Diana Ross, Santa Esmeralda, Dan Hill, Kim Carnes, Judy Collins, Stevie Nicks, Lobo, Barry Manilow, Rolling Stones, Peter Frampton, Rita Coolidge, Aretha Franklin, Foreigner, James Taylor, John Lennon, Fleetwood Mac, Jefferson Starship, Chicago, Don McLean, Boney M, Cory Hart, Irene Cara, Randy Vanwarmer, Anne Murray, Jim Croce, REO Speedwagon, Helen Reddy, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Styx, Dan Fogelberg, Dire Straits, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Sam Hui, Louie Castro, Teresa Carpio, Michael Kwan, Rowena Cortes, Fransce Yip, George Lam, The Jade, The Wynners, The Chopsticks .... Have these lists brought back any memories? The one thing I miss most about the 70's is its SPIRIT! Along with a groovy, anything goes attitude; it was vivacious, wild, liberating, innovative and creative; most of all - the music was AWESOME! I was enwrapped in the delirium of disco from late 70's through early 80's. I just couldn't resist not creating a self-indulgent page on the DISCO theme! Kamen-Rider, Majinga-Z and Robocon are also included in this issue of 70's Flashback. Hope this collection of images could tickle the kids in all of you.
