Scanlation
スカンレーション
N.
Scanlations, sometimes called scanslation, combines two words: scan and translation. They are comics in which they have been scanned and translated to a different language. Like fan subs, making some sort of profit off them is expressly prohibited.
Seiyuu (seh-ee-yoo-oo)
声優
せいゆう
N.
Voice actor. If you see the letters "CV", that stands for character voice. You see seiyuu work with various forms of entertainment. Some people will only see a certain anime or play a certain game because it has a certain seiyuu. People did see only two episode of "Love Hina" just because Tsuru Hiromi-san was in those episodes as Shinobu's mom.
It is true that seiyuu do get attention. Yes, seiyuu love their job, but despite the joy and excitement, being a seiyuu is not easy. Besides going through a school of some sort, seiyuu don't get much of a salary. Now, because of this, they are forced to go into another field such as the ongaku world or the radio world. Don't believe me? Ask Ogata Megumi-san.
Elder seiyuu fans are different from younger seiyuu because they don't catch up with the current generation quickly. It's not easy to explain which seiyuu are popular on both sides of the world and which seiyuu do not many people know on this side in this state. So, I'll have to do a list of examples for each section with a twist. (This means I will list the male seiyuu girls drool over and I will list female seiyuu guys want to marry. Also, I'll mention the well-known seiyuu first. Sorry if this entry's too long, but what can I say? I'm a bi~g seiyuu fan.)
The old school group - Furuya Tooru-san, the Ootsuka father-son combo of Chikao-san and Akio-san, Wakamoto Norio-san, Aono Takeshi-san, Shimizu Saeko-san and Hayami Shou-san.
The semi-old school female seiyuu group us guys think of as still 18 year olds, even though they're not 18 - Hayashibara Megumi-san, Inoue Kikuko-san, Mitsuishi Kotono-san, Hisakawa Aya-san, Amano Yuri-san, Hiramatsu Akiko-san, Tsuru Hiromi-san, Hidaka Noriko-san, Touma Yumi-san, Yamadera Mika Kanai-san, Tomizawa Michie-san, Aoyama Minami Takayama-san, Kouda Mariko-san, Ogata Megumi-san, Neya Michiko-san, Itou Miki-san, Matsui Naoko-san, I can go on and on here.
The semi-old school male seiyuu group which still happens to have stalkers all over the world and us guys have been jealous of over the years - Midorikawa Hikaru-san, Koyasu Takehito-san, Miki Shin'ichirou-san, Yuuki Hiro-san, Okiayu Ryoutarou-san, Ueda Yuuji-san, Hiyama Nobuyuki-san, Yamadera Kouichi-san, Yamaguchi Kappei-san and Kanna Nobutoshi-san to name several.
The new school female seiyuu group - Horie Yui-san, Sakamoto Maaya-san, Yamamoto Maria-san, Iwao Junko-san, Kawasumi Ayako-san, Tamura Yukari-san, Mizuki Nana-san, Momoi Haruko-san, Kawakami Tomoko-san, Tange Sakura-san, Tanaka Rie-san, Higuchi Chieko-san, Nogawa Sakura-san, Asakawa Yuu-san, Asano Masumi-san, Kakazu Yumi-san, I so need to stop here.
The new school male seiyuu group - Seki Tomokazu-san, Hoshi Souichirou-san and Taniyama Kishou-san to name a few.
Seki Tomokazu (seh-kee-toh-moh-kah-zoo)

A very popular seiyuu, he has played as characters such Ken of "Weiss Kreuz", Jun of "Kanon", Sousuke of "Full Metal Panic", Han of "Ehrgeiz", Mickey in "Area 88's" television series, Chichiri of "Fushigi Yuugi", Alex of "Ayashi no Ceres", Kenji of "Pocket Monsters" and so forth. Shintou/Shinto (shee-n-toh-oo)
神道
しんとう
N.
Literally meaning the way of the god, this is Japan's top religion. "The Anime Companion" says that the religion is more of traditions and actions such as praying than written documents.
SNK Playmore/SNK
エスエンケイプレイモア
Creation date: 1979. Location: Osaka. Short for Shin Nihon Kikaku or the New Japanese Project, SNK Playmore is a company mostly known for its fighting games, having English speaking fans creating one of the most horrid terms ever in SNK Boss Syndrome/SNK Playmore Boss Syndrome or a really, really hard boss, and showing lots of Engrish. The company was bankrupt at the turn of the century and managed to get back on its feet a few years later with the name change and a new look at various issues. The company used to make home Neo-Geo systems, but they were not cheap. There used to be a Neo Geo Land which was an amusement center dedicated to SNK Playmore games. SNK Playmore and its branches are known for series such as "Garou Densetsu", "Athena", "Samurai Spirits", Gekka no Kenshi", "Metal Slug", "Twinkle Star Sprites" and "Days of Memories".
Special move
スペシャルムーブ
N.
A special move is a move in pretty much 2D fighting games that has some sort of special effect and even if it doesn't have a special effect, you can tell it is a special move by the way it fills up the power bar or in some cases, empties it slowly. Examples include the Hadouken, the Raijin Upper from "Justice Gakuen's" Kyousuke and the Shotgun of Yuusuke in the "Yuu Yuu Hakusho" games.
Super move
スーパームーブ
N.
A super move is a move with serious power or they can benefit your character. In fighting games, they require at least a level in your power bar or the whole bar itself. These moves also appear in the form of desperate moves/デスペレートムーブ or desperation moves. Desperate moves, DMs as some people call them, are done when your character is low on health and though SNK Playmore fighting games are known for them, they are seen in fighting games from other companies and even from games other than fighting games. Some of the most serious super moves out there are the Shinkuu Hadouken and SNK Playmore Terry's Power Geyser.
Sushi (soo-shee)
鮨
すし
N.
Most westerners make the mistake of saying that sushi is raw fish. Fish would be "sakana"/魚/さかな. Sushi is seasoned rice. You see sushi with nori/海苔/のり a good amount of the time. "G.T.O." has a scene with Onizuka-sensei eating lots of sushi.
