Fan art

ファンアート

N.

Art created by fans. Fan art image sources usually come from existing series, but people do come up with original characters.

Fan fiction/Fan fic

ファンフィック

N.

An unofficial writing (a short story, script or novel) using characters from an existing anime, manga or game.

Fan service

ファンサービス

N.

An element in entertainment which is meant to arouse the fans and nothing more. That is, they don't progress the story in any single way. They are designed to arouse the viewer, regardless of the gender, with bare skin or offbeat action. Misato of "Evangelion" definitely shows shots of fan service for guys.

Fan sub

ファンサッブ

N.

Often done to allow non-Japanese viewers to watch and understand unlicensed anime, fan subs, short for fan subtitled work, are made for fans by fans and making some sort of profit off them is expressly prohibited unless the money is for new equipment, which is the case pretty much.

Freeter

フリーター

N.

A word created by the Japanese, it's the combination of the English word free and the German word arbeiter or worker. A freeter is someone who is free and is looking for work. Kitsune of "Love Hina" and Kintarou of "Golden Boy" are two examples of a freeter.

Fuku (foo-koo)

ふく

N.

Clothing. Seifuku are sailor uniforms as in the uniforms you see joshikousei wear. Wafuku are traditional Japanese clothes as in what you see Aoi of "Ai Yori Aoshi" wear.

Furigana (foo-ree-gah-nah)

降り仮名

ふりがな

N.

Kana placed over kanji. Read a series like "Love Hina" in its original text and you will see lots of furigana.
