MY TORONTO

Wherever you are, as you read this note, chances are you have a relative or someone you know, lives in my city, a city of 5 million people; a population that represents every country in the world!

I am enthralled with life and this is the place to experience it. There is an abundance of life happening all around me in this metropolis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Shortly after arriving in Toronto, I labelled it as the City that Never Sleeps.

I work in the legal profession and let me tell you, there is no shortage of work in law in Toronto. Sad to say the increase in job availability seems to be in the criminal sector of law, and even sadder is the fact that it is amongst our young people and it is happening in our schools. I've always done volunteer work and recently made a switch to the justice system where I was trained as a mediator. Having worked as a volunteer in one of our Canadian prisons, I saw first hand how little good came out of being incarcerated. A young man would go in for a petty crime and be released having learned even more skillful trades of the world of crime! What is sad, even though it is a wonderful thing, the mediation program, is that it is so very much needed.

I leave you with a question. Why the increase in crime and especially amongst our young people? And I leave you with my answer to that question. I believe it is because the family unit has all but disintegrated. I'd love to hear from you, your thoughts and ideas.

I am a published writer, poet and photographer; a mother, grandmother...these are such some the roles I currently hold in life.
I have friends from all over the world, a large family and we are all very active in the community and volunteer in diverse areas. Perhaps you and I shall become new friends. Friendship knows no distance.
