On the eve of Rosalinn McGowan's twenty-first birthday, the gods came together and created a babe. In this babe's arms they laid a new and powerful weapon, a mighty warhammer. They called the babe Present. She was presented to Rosalinn at a party in her honor, a party to not only celebrate her birth but to celebrate all that she had done for the torn countryside in the name of the Gods. It was on this night, in the arms of Rosalinn that Present would breath her first breath of life.
Rosalinn took the child into the folds of her family and raised her into a strong-willed, loud-mouthed teenager, and although Rosalinn loved Present very much, she knew that the child did
not fit in with her and her kind. She saw Present grow farther and farther away from her. On a warm spring morning, Rosalinn took Present to see a good friend. His name was Kai, he was a great and mighty warrior and he followed a darker path than that of Rosalinn and her kin. When Present laid eyes upon the handsome warrior, her heart melted. She knew for the first time that the man before her would lead her to greatness. She saw in his eyes, the strength and determination that she longed to posses, so upon hearing from Rosalinn that she was to go with Kai, she smiled at Rosalinn with real joy for the first time.
For centuries Present looked out from the ice surrounding, hoping that someday, someone would be able to reverse the effects and set her free. On a hot spring day, her wish would come true, when a new cub by the name of Tigress came bounding up to her doorway. Tigress looked inside and saw the frozen Present staring back at her. She howled softly and began clawing at the ice. The minute Tigresses' warm paw touched the ice; it melted away, leaving a wet and very grateful Present standing before this stranger who had the power to save her. They introduced themselves to each other and Tigress sat down and caught Present up on the goings-on in the world and in the clan. Present's friends had long since passed on to the next realm. She learned that Rosalinn was still alive and had a daughter, named Rosebud. She learned that power structure in the pack was in turmoil and that some of the members could not be trusted. She learned to watch her back while she re-learned the world she had been away from for so long. She and Tigress became friends and they hunted together periodically. She also met and became friends with Rosebud, although it was a strange relationship indeed. She needed allies in order to get back into the political arena and in order to gain more power. She hoped to one day lead the pack herself, but she noticed an unsettlingly high amount of resistance from some of the pack members. She knew things were really going bad when her friend Tigress left the pack and created her own Army of Darkness. Present decided to withdraw from the spotlight once again and hope that the doubts and rumors that were being flung at her from
those who opposed would fade into bad memories. She was desperate not to be thrown from the pack, the only home she'd ever
really known.
Many years passed and Present stayed in the shadows, watching and waiting, hoping for the time when she would again be embraced
by those she called her family. It was not looking good. On one of her few excursions into the world to hunt, she met a witty and
handsome were-tiger named Rajah. He was one of Tigress's clerics in her Army, and Present found him quite charming. She didn't get
to see him very often because she rarely left her lair, but she always kept an eye on him through her scrying mirror. She followed many of the world's events through the protection of that mirror, but it was that security that eventually made her crack. She was loosing herself in this fear of being thrown out of her home, that soon it didn't even really matter to her anymore. She saw a new face take the position of Alpha wolf; a young upstart named Zim. She had to know; finally she had to know whether or not she was welcome in the pack any longer. She had to get out of this rut one way or another. She confronted Zim about it, and when he told her that she was no longer welcome, she packed up her things and she walked out of that mountain cave forever.
Out in the world again, alone for the first time, Present didn't know where to turn. She looked to Rosebud and Tigress for help, but they were too busy with their guilds to help. She settled in a small cave filled with gnomes under the hills east of Riversy. There she practiced her magic on the gnomes, much to their dismay. She watched as Tigress became a goddess and saw the in-fighting start with her army as her second in command took charge. She watched as Rajah and Rosebud became good friends. One day, in the not too distant past Rosebud came to Present and asked her if she would like to join Rajah on a new mission of balance throughout the lands. She then told Present of the shimmers, Rajah and his brothers, and the gift that their mother had given them. Present, having always admired Rajah, agreed to seek him out and discover further what this mission was about. So, one quiet afternoon in the depths of the Laketown Mansion cellar, Rajah told Present of the Shimmers and of their mission. Present knew that this could be her new home, her new family. She agreed to join Rajah on his mission, and he and Tearz gave Present the gift of Shimmer. She was no longer a stray wolf roaming the caverns of the deep, she had a family, with a leader she could look up to and confide in again. Present has grown quickly in the folds her new home. She is still the stubborn, loud-mouthed, self-willed werewolf she's always been, but she has a purpose again, and this time she plans on fulfilling it!
Present's time with Kai was short, but he taught her many things in the few years that they had together. He took her to a new level of awareness and power when he asked her to join with him and a few others in becoming werewolves. Present was enthralled with the prospect and the promise of power and companionship.
She trusted that Kai would not let anything bad happen to her, so she agreed. In a dark cave, hidden behind the Riversy mines, the 10 friends would drink the forbidden blood and forever be hanged. It was on this night that the Wolf Pack was founded. In blood and trust these ten friends were reborn as werewolves. Present felt truly alive for the first time in her short existence. When she and the pack hunted, it was beauty. She found that she had a gift for magic and when she wasn't hunting with the pack she was holed up in her laboratory working on new spells. Soon, though she became so obsessed with her spells that she stopped hunting
altogether, thus becoming isolated from her brethren. On a cold, snowy night in the mountain caves of the pack, Present was hard at work on a new spell, when a horrible catastrophe occurred. Present was mixing some components together, but the temperature wasn't hot enough and it exploded, freezing Present and everything inside her lair solid.
