a young deaf couple across from me
sit in silence for the world to see
they communicate with just their hands
in loud clear ways we never can
the boy the way he flails his arms
attracts attention
from customers and passersby
amused by the commotion
it was enough to free
the tears
kept inside so quiet
for years
and i find myself wondering
why we can't be like that
whenever i signal to you
why don't you signal back?
over time we've fallen blind
to every action passed
while these two people
rely solely upon that
it's so sad...
