"Family Man" is a story about a single parent family. Chun Pui is the dad of four daughters: Jay Lau, Flora Chan, Sonijia Kwok and Myolie Wu. Chun Pui has the role of both the father and the mother, as his wife died at an early age. Chun Pui is portrayed as the best father (chinese title: tsuet sai ho ba), and steps in to help solve the problems faced by his four daughters, he does everything that is best for them.
Jay Lau is the eldest daughter and she works in the cosmetics field. She is married to Edmond So, but she is a very overpowering wife and often bosses her husband around.They are often quarrelling about little matters and are often on the verge of divorce. Towards the middle, they finally divorce and they become good friends. After they divorce, they head off in different directions to find their new love.
The second daughter is Flora Chan, she is the working women type and has a steady relationship with her long term boyfriend. Even though, Flora is in a steady relationship, there are no signs that they want to get married. Here, the dad steps in and influences them to get married. As Flora and her fiancee arrange their wedding, her fiancee leaves her, without noitice due to various financial reasons. At this stage, she is not only heartbroken but is also left on her own to keep her company running and repay the debts owed to others by her fiancee. Here, her dad and her sisters lend out a helping hand and goes through this hard stage of her life with her.
The third daughter is Sonijia Kwok, she is also a working woman and puts her career as her first priority. The problem with her is that she doesn't have a boyfriend, as most of the guys are too scared to approach her, because she is very articulate and has high expetations for her boyfriend. Like Flora, Sonijia also has a love relationship with Moses, but the difference is that her love is unrequitted. Sonijia also has a love relationship with Micheal Tong, at first Sonijia's relationship with both Moses and Micheal is quite bad due to some silly misunderstandings, but as the story goes on, her relationship with the two guys builds up to a stage where she ends up liking both of them. Micheal works with Sonjia in a newspaper company as reporters, as Sonijia works with Micheal, she finds out that he is not as bad as she thought he was. Sonijia also admires Micheal's talents in literature, and they get along welll as their hobbies are very similar. Micheal falls in love with Sonijia first but his love is unrequitted as Sonijia only treats him as her very close friend and she doesn't have love feelings for him like he does for her.
Flora also has a love relationship with Moses Chan. At first, due to some funny misunderstandings, Moses and Flora aren't in good terms. Moses is the cousin of Flora's fiancee, and as Flora's fiancee leaves her, he gives Moses a position in Flora's company, in return for money. Thus, Moses becomes Flora's colleague, and during this time, they discover good points about each other. Towards the middle of the story, not only do they not hate each other anymore but they also have love feelings towards each other. Moses and Flora's relationship is described by themselves as always in "wrong timing", because as their relationship reaches climax, Flora's fiancee returns to Flora and tells her how much he loves her and that he only left because he didn't want to get Flora in trouble as well. In other words, he left for Flora's own good and his love for her has not diminished at all while he left her. Flora was really touched by his actions, so therfore she returned to him and, once again, they are organising their wedding. Moses is left heartbroken, so he turns to Sonijia, and they begin to date.
Myolie Wu is the youngest daughter and she is a university student and has many boyfriends. She falls in love with Micheal because of his stupidness and honesty. But her love for him is unrequitted as Micheal likes her older sister, Sonijia. But this does not stop Myolie from liking Micheal and instead she keeps on going after him.
The ending of this series is a happy one, where Flora gets with Moses as Flora's fiancee leaves her, because he knows that he has lost her the other time he left her and that Flora does not love him anymore. Even though Flora's fiancee leaves, Flora and Moses are still in "wrong timing" as at this stage Moses is going out with Sonijia. As Moses and Sonijia goes out, they realise that they like totally different things and they are two different types of people. So Sonija returns to Micheal and Moses gets with Flora . Myolie has decided to concentrate on her studies and has given up on Micheal, wheras Jay and her husband, Edmond, gets back together as they realise that they still love each other when they were at the solicitor's office signing the divorce agreement.
