Gundam
Wing is copyright...Sotsu, I think it is, and I don't own the GW boys. Seki
would be rather pissed if I claimed ownership of her, but that's the way the
cookie crumbles...muse or not, I made her up...

Shi-chan: *Sounding far away, as if her voice is being played on a tape
recorder* Pending the fact that I've been author-napped (See "Earth Bound
Wing Zero: Fourside," for details), Shiseki-chan has cooked up another
fluffy story for Valentine's Day, with a little not-so-pointless
self-insertion. With her, not me. This is what we call 'muse mutiny,' not that
I'm in a position to do anything about it...

I Won't Dance
~By Shimegami-chan
Music: "Kimi Ga Ita Scene," from Card Captor Sakura. What's up with
me and CCS lately?
Warnings: Shounen-ai
Author's Note: The title--and Seki's song--were both spawned from an old
Muppets video I was watching today. ^^;;
"I'm not going," Duo said with finality. "I hate dances."
"But Duooooo...." Relena whined. "That's what you said at the
Christmas dance! Please go! Come on!"
"No."
"Don't be stubborn!" she chided. "Heero and I will be there
too!"
That's the problem, Ojousan. "Forget it, Relena. Dances aren't my
thing."
Relena draped an arm over Duo's shoulder. "Duo-kun, I have a friend who I
know would love to go with you to the dance. It's not like you'd be
lonely!"
"Ojousan, I like being lonely."
"Why won't you at least try going out with one of my friends? They
all think you're great!"
I do want to go out with one of your friends. But you'd kill me if
you knew just which one. "Because I don't like blind dates, Ojousan.
Can't you give me a break?"
A voice spoke up from the doorway. "She's forcing me to go too, if it's
any consolation."
"Heero!" Relena gasped. "I'm not forcing you to do
anything! It's completely up to you," she said slyly.
Duo sighed. "If I go for a little while, will you leave me alone?"
Sensing victory, Relena gave him a hug before attaching herself to Heero's arm.
"Of course, Duo-kun! I just want you to enjoy yourself...that's all! I'm
sure we'll have a great time."
Sure, Ojousan. I'm betting you're going to have a wonderful time.
Later that night, Duo stood against the wall, singing a tune to himself.
"I won't dance,
Don't ask me.
I won't dance,
Don't ask me.
I won't dance--
Madam, with you...
My heart won't let my feet do things they shouldn't do."
A lighter female voice interrupted his reverie. "You know what?"
"What?"
"You're lovely."
"And so what?"
"I'm lovely." She smiled coyly at him.
"But oh what you do to me..."
"I'm like an ocean wave that's bumped on the shore..."
"I feel so absolutely stumped on the floor." Duo grinned sheepishly
at his date. "I forgot the rest of the song."
"It's okay, I never figured out the next line myself." Seki leaned
against the concrete beside him. "Is that why you're glued to the wall
here? You don't know how to dance?"
"Something like that," Duo sighed.
"It's not that hard." The girl's emerald eyes glittered in the
flashing lights. "I could show you."
"Oh, no, I don't really need to--"
Before he could finished the thought the lithe girl had yanked him out onto the
floor beside her, holding tight to his arm so he couldn't escape. "Come
on, Duo, loosen up. Relena's worried about you, you know."
"So?" Duo grumbled. "She has no reason to be." Some song
with a nice beat was playing, and Duo's body itched to move to the music. He
restrained the urge. "I'm not here to have a good time."
"Oh?" Seki only looked mildly surprised. "Why are you here
then?"
"I...I don't know."
The chestnut-haired girl quirked an eyebrow. "Oh, come on. You're lying to
me."
"I don't lie."
"Can you dance?"
"Yes."
"Good." She looped her arms around his shoulders as a slower song
started. "So tell me, Duo Maxwell, what brings you here?"
"I don't need to tell you that."
Seki laughed and stared into his violet eyes. "Why not? Can I guess?"
Duo blinked. "Um, I guess so."
The emerald-eyed girl thought for a moment, swaying lightly with the music.
"Well, you like to dance, don't you? I can feel it in the way you
move."
Duo nodded hesitantly.
"Well then, it's not that you don't think you'll enjoy yourself...ah! I
know!"
"Nani?" Duo queried, worry in his eyes.
"You want to be here with someone else."
She stated it matter-of-factly, but Duo was still anxious to defend his honour
and her feelings. "Wait! It's not that I don't want to be here with you,
you're nice and everything, but..."
"Oh, I understand perfectly." she grinned. "I'd be lying if I
didn't say that I wasn't attracted to someone who's...well...as you can see,
I'm not dancing with him. I think Relena must have set us up just to
trick me into coming. So, tell me, this 'friend' of yours..."
Duo sighed. "Come on, Seki-chan, it's not nice to grill people..."
"Is it Relena?"
"Hell no!" Duo cried. "I didn't say--what makes you think the
person's even here?"
"Then it's Heero Yuy, 'cause you've been staring at him and Relena all
night."
Duo was again thankful for the darkness, as his face must have been a most
unappealing shade of purple. "I..."
"Heh, looks like I got you! I'm not as half-witted as I look, Duo Maxwell.
You're not gonna pass out or anything, are you? You look a little red."
"Uh, no."
"I'm not infringing on your sexual preferences by dancing wth you, am
I?"
"Uh, no, I'm bisexual--"
"--Great. So, tell me, why exactly is Heero here with Relena and not
you?"
When the colour had drained from his cheeks enough so that he could speak
again, Duo chose his words carefully. "I'm, um, not sure Heero is of the
same.... preferences...as me."
Seki nodded thoughtfully. "I see. But he doesn't look like he's enjoying
himself with her."
"No, he's always like that. And anyway, I look like I'm enjoying myself
with you, aren't I?"
"I'm not going to take that as an insult," Seki grinned,
"because you don't seem to be as miserable as you were five minutes ago.
But Duo, it wouldn't take a genius to figure out that something's wrong.
Especially someone who knows you like Heero does. Come on, have some courage in
yourself!"
"Heero doesn't know me," Duo scoffed. "He's never gotten a
chance to."
"Well, Duo-kun...." Seki said finally, "You've gotta go for your
goals or they'll slip away from you, you know? It sounds awfully clichéd, but
it's true. If you let Relena have Heero without even trying, you'll regret
it."
"Yeah." The two of them barely noticed the end of the song.
"Maybe tonight's the night I get up some of that courage."
After several more songs, Seki had abandoned Duo to go get herself something to
drink, and taken Relena with her. Duo really didn't like the sly wink the
chestnut-haired girl had given him as she led Relena out of the room, and
wasn't sure whether to be suspicious or not when Heero walked over to him a few
seconds later. "Hello, Duo."
"Hey, Heero." Duo fell silent, staring at the floor. "So, how's
your...date...going?"
"Hn. About as to be expected, with Relena."
What's that supposed to mean? "Heero...I've been meaning to ask you
this for a really long time now..."
"Nani?"
"Do you like Relena...as more than a friend?"
Heero blinked. "Not really."
"I don't want to pry, Heero. But is there any particular *reason* why you
don't? I mean, she obviously loves you. And you do tons of stuff to help her
out."
Heero sighed heavily. "Are you going to stop bugging me if I tell
you?"
"Yes."
"Fine. Duo, I'm gay."
Duo couldn't believe his ears. "Seriously!?!?"
"Yes." The tiniest flush had risen to Heero's cheeks.
"That's great, Heero! So tell me...is there anyone you're interested in at
all?"
"What do you mean, 'that's great'?" Heero asked, confusion evident on
his face. "I thought you'd be horrified."
"Hell no, Heero! Now answer my question."
Heero gritted his teeth and looked at the floor. "You're okay with
this?" Duo nodded in response. "Yes, I'm interested in someone."
Duo's heart nearly dropped into his shoes, but he pressed on. "Who is it?
Tell me, tell me! Is it one of us pilots? Is it Quatre? I always thought Q-man
was a little off..."
"Yes, it's one of the Gundam pilots. No, it's not Quatre."
"Trowa, then? There's no way Wu-man's...oh wait, you said you liked
them. Hmm. Tell me!"
"I don't think you want to hear it, Duo," Heero said, his colbalt
eyes burning into Duo's violet ones.
"Yeah," Duo whispered. "I want to know."
Heero held his gaze steady. "It's you."
"Me?" Duo's mouth dropped open and he felt his face pass through at least
six shades of red.
Heero had turned side-on, crossing his arms. "There, I told you. Now
you're either going to have a heart attack and never speak to me again, or
you'll be open-minded and just drop the subject. I hope it's the latter."
Courage, Duo. "Aren't there any more options?" Duo wondered
aloud, idly sliding his hands around Heero's waist. Heero grew slightly tense
at the touch.
The brown-haired boy turned to face him. "D-Duo?"
Duo tried to look innocent, pasting on a grin. "I guess if you've come out
of the closet, I might as well too. I'm bisexual."
Heero froze in shock. "You are?"
"Hai."
"And you're...you're..."
"I've been interested in you for a very long time, Heero Yuy."
Duo sighed, moving his hands up around Heero's neck. Heero circled his arms
around Duo's waist, even though the song had almost come to an end.
"I never would have thought...aiya. Duo, will you...can you and I..."
"I'm all for it," Duo whispered. "Will you dance with me,
Heero?" He leaned in and kissed Heero lightly on the lips.
Seki had been more than slightly boosted her own confidence by her talk with
Duo, and it skyrocketed as she watched the scene unfold from the darkened
doorway. She felt kind of sorry for Relena, sure, but she hoped Relena would understand
that it just wouldn't have worked out.
Gathering up her waning courage, Seki approached the young blonde man with
determination in her emerald eyes. He seemed almost bored now, sitting by
himself, although Seki was sure he could have had a dozen partners if he'd
wanted to.
She met his blue eyes. "Hi, Rain. Would you care to dance?"
Rain grinned at her, and Seki almost melted. "Sure, why not?" He took
her hand and led her to the middle of the floor, where a familiar tune played.
Seki had requested the song for Duo's sake, but it looked like she wouldn't get
to see his reaction after all.
"When you dance you're charming and you're gentle...
And then when you do that continental...
But this feeling isn't purely mental...
And so I restus...
I'm not asbestos...
And that's why
I won't dance
Why should I?
I won't dance
How could I?
I won't dance..."
Seki and Rain had started into a sort of waltz, and Seki spotted Duo and Heero
making their way onto the floor. She gave Duo a thumbs-up over Rain's shoulder.
Duo grinned at Seki and mentally blamed her for the ironic and odd choice in
music. The guy she was with was tall with fairly long blonde hair, and Duo
wondered if that had been the person she'd mentioned earlier. He hoped so.
Duo smiled and took one of Heero's hands in his own, mimicking the movements of
the people around them. Heero, however, was looking more than a little
panicked.
"What's wrong, Heero?" Duo asked, cocking his head and quirking an
eyebrow. "Oh no, don't tell me..."
Heero nodded with a smile and leaned against Duo, mouthing the next verse of
the song.
"...Merci beaucoup...
I know that music is the way to romance
So if I hold you in my arms..."
Heero laughed at Duo's bewildered expression and leaned in to kiss him on the
nose.
"I won't dance!"

Shiseki: Perhaps a bit of an awkward ending, but...oh well! ^_^
