Hee. I just love Billy. He's
the reason why I got into Lord of the Rings in the first place. I saw him
on the Two Towers special on the WB, and he was just so wonderful. He made
me laugh. What can I say? I'm a sucker for funny guys. And he's really
nice, too, from what I see. Billy acts politely in all the interviews I
have seen/read him in. *Orlando voice* I love that!
And an extra bonus: his cute Scottish accent. I love hearing
him talk. When I'm listening to the audio commentary for FotR, I just
smile. I do. Anything he talks about has got me grinning
When Did I Jump?
So when did I first like Billy Boyd? I'll tell you! It
happened right around the time I saw The Two Towers on December 21, or 22.
It was on the weekend. Anyhoo, I went with my friends to watch the movie.
I didn't really respect the Lord of the Rings movies. I enjoyed them, but
it wasn't like I took things seriously. So yes. That was the timeline.
During the movie, I got intrigued. Dun dun dun dun... Fast forward to when
the WB replayed the Two Towers special.
I was starting to get into LotR because I had really enjoyed
The Two Towers movie, so I decided to tape the hour-long (actually around
45 minutes without the commercials) special on the WB. The moment of Billy
interest? I think it was the first time he spoke. He said in his Scottish
accent, "I haven't aged a day" in response to Dom's remark about how he
looked the same when Dom first met him. I think I grinned when he said
that, which sounded like "I haven't eeged a dee." THEN! It showed the
Billy and Dom segment. Then he did the Second Breakfast Comparison. Enter
me, quietly and unknowingly coming to adore this guy. I don't think I even
knew his name yet.
I watched more of the special. And then rewatched all the Billy parts a
lot, "A lot", of times.
And here I am now. Thank you, Mr. Boyd, for getting me to like Lord of the
Rings.
So yes. I can't describe Billy, for he is indescribable. If I
say he's cute, the word cute is usually connected with appearance. I'm not
talking about appearance, I'm talking about the whole package: the way he
acts, the way he is, the way he thinks, talks, etcetera blah blah blah.
Now, I can say "He is cool", and that can include everything about Billy.
The thing is, the word is used so much. It underestimates Billy. The word
"cool" is overrated. As you can tell, I don't have a way with words. Poor
Billy. I don't have a spectacular enough adjective to describe him. He's
just so damn charming.
ˇBilly Facts!
These are just facts (uh dur) that I think are very interesting and are
things that Billy-fans would like to go, "Oh really?" at. And you should
know, as I am typing this introduction, I am reading it with a Scottish
accent. That is just the influence Mr. Boyd has on me.
Name: William Boyd (Nickname is Billy, yo)
Birthday: August 28, 1968
Is From: Glasgow, Scotland
~He can sing! You might have noticed his great singing talent in the Green
Dragon scene in the FotR extended dvd. Yeah. "There's a mug of beer inside
this Took!" He's also a musician, too. He plays guitar. *claps*
~He knows Filipino kali. I'm not quite sure what kali is exactly, but from
my sparse researching I have discovered it is a fighting style.
~He and the other hobbits surfed a lot during the downtime when filming
Lord of the Rings, and Billy's the best surfer out of the lot.
~He was voted Scotland's most eligible bachelor. Go Billy. *does a dance*
As you might already know, Billy plays Peregrin Took in The Lord of the
Rings trilogy. The character is better known as Pippin. =) Here, I will
attempt to give you an understanding of Pippin. Those who know LotR well,
feel free to mock me. Not just in front of my face, but in the quiet
serenity of your own home.
~Pippin wears a scarf in the movie that's really quite cute. I took this
online quiz one time that was determining what LotR item I would be. I was
Pippin's scarf. I think that result speaks multitudes about my
personality.
~Pippin's the youngest out of the four hobbits at age... 20-something.
~Meriadoc Brandybuck (aka Merry, played by the hip Dom Monaghan) is his
cousin. Those mischievous, care-free cousins! Partners in crime, they are.
And they are my favorite characters. Huh, fancy that.
~In the trilogy, Pippin grows up a lot when he endures the hardships of
trying to destroy the one ring. When he lived in the Shire, he didn't have
a lot of horrible problems. Now he's been through hell and back. He's
become a knight of Gondor, for goodness sakes. Pip, I'm so proud of you.
~In the FotR book (and the movie), Pippin always seems to annoy Gandalf.
He means no harm, of course. As said by the ever-articulate Will Smith,
"Parents just don't understand." Just replace the word "parents" with
"wizards."
