Christmas is for Children

Thoughts of Christmas from the past, lord how we hope the memories will last!
When we were children the season was so fun and exciting!
The excitement of the first snow,
The dinners with ovens providing warmth and fragrances so delicious that one could be filled with the aroma alone.
Christmas is for children,
May we always have that Child in us.
The tree was cut and brought into the house,
The smell of fresh pine,
The opening of stored boxes of ornaments seen only once a year.
Homemade decorations joined the store bought ones,
The old meeting the new.
Christmas is for Children,
May we always have that Child in us.
The days upon days of watching the presents,
Waiting for the chance to open them.
Most of the time your sister opens or peeks,
And you cant convince her you would rather wait.
Christmas is for Children,
May we always have that Child in us.
Going to Church and singing the carols,
I wondered why those beautiful songs were only sung once a year.
The Bell Choir would chime out,
And everyone was so friendly and caring.
Christmas is for Children,
May we always have that Child in us.
On the night before Christmas,
The Holiday programs on the television,
If we were lucky a snow would begin to fall.
Sleep would be hard to come by,
Sounds dancing only in our mind would keep us awake for hours.
Christmas is for Children,
May we always have that Child in us.
The morning is full of excitement and cheer,
Packages are torn open,
Sometimes not taking the time to notice who they are from.
It was always over too soon.
By noon a wonderful brunch was ready,
But due to indulgence of the goodies in the stocking,
Brunch often times went untouched.
Christmas is for Children,
May we always have that Child in us.
The years come and go
And we have families of our own.
We are now making memories for our own children.
Often times we over do it
And provide too much which more often
Than not is our fault as parents.
Christmas is for Children,
May we always have that Child in us.
All too soon Christmas morning comes
And our Children are on their own.
The tree isnt quite the same,
And the packages lose their luster.
We wait for the visit
Which comes and goes all too quickly.
Christmas is for Children,
May we always have that Child in us.
As time goes on,
Our Dad and Mom leave this world.
All we have left are memories
To call on that Christmas Morn.
The visits grow farther apart with our own Children,
And the time spent is shorter and shorter.
Christmas is for Children,
May we always have that Child in us.
Christ is the only one we can count on to be there for sure.
Our memories are the precious gifts that
Remain through time.
I still Love this time of year,
And the happiness, warmth, and love it brings.
I still have visions of Grandma at the piano,
Dads Laugh,
Moms Love of the Holidays and us,
Christmas is for Children,
May we always have that Child in us.
