About the Site
Shikon No Tamashii? For the title of my website, I wanted something unique that wasn't used by any other website (hopefully I achieved that). Basically, it's supposed to be some sort of play on words, where 'Shikon' or 'Shikon No Tama' refers to the Jewel of Four Souls, and 'tamashii' means 'soul'. It doesn't make sense when translated, oh well. Layout 1.0 Unlike my other websites, which use CSS to position the content, I hesitantly decided to go with a tables layout because it's easy to get something that looks decent. However, the reason I hesitate to use tables is because it is technically discouraged by the W3C (the people who set the standards for the Internet). Instead, they encourage people to use CSS to lay out pages (keeping content and style seperate), which is what I have tried to do. Layout 1.5 I have re-used some parts of the old layout, except this time I scrapped the image header at the top and replaced it with a title written in plain text and a background image, and the navigation has been shifted to the right. The picture comes from a scan that I got from Anime Paper. I then used Photoshop to crop and rotate the picture to how I wanted it, followed by the use of the gradient tool to get the edge to fade into blue. One problem with this layout is that it will probably look bad in a low resolution or small window. I use 1024x768 screen resolution, and I've tested how this layout looks in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera, so for the majority, it should be okay. Webhosting If you haven't guessed from the URL or the advertisements on the side of my site (which can be closed), this site is hosted by GeoCities. Out of all the free web hosts I have tried, Geocities is the best for this type of website. Of course, if there's a better one out there, please let me know. |
