"...Okay.. Just this once."
Duo sighed and accepted Zechs. Zechs smiled and took Duo's hand gently and placed it on his shoulder. He placed his hand on Duo's hip and held Duo's open hand.
The band started playing a soft, romantic music, much to the liking of Zechs. Was this pre-planned?
"...Zechs.. Don't you think we're a little bit too close? I can barely move...."
Duo complained, but Zechs just smiled. Duo said no more because this was Zech's party and he didn't want to make him feel rejected.
Zechs always looked after him and was always behind him for support. He was like a big brother, someone he can rely on. Zechs smiled and welcomed Duo whenever he needed an advise of some sort and Duo knew he would come up with the best solution for any kind of problem.
Duo heard whispers and snickers from the audience and decided not to look at them. He knew they were students from his school and by tomorrow, every one of his classmates will be making a big fuss out of it.
"...I.. am not going to school tomorrow..." Duo looked down and pretended, or tried to pretend, he wasn't there. That this was all a dream. But he knew this was real, for, he could feel ice-cold eyes on his back. It was cold enough to make him shiver.
"You okay?"
Zechs asked, taking Duo's chin and lifting it. Duo saw how concerned Zechs was and realized he was ruining his night. Duo smiled and shook his head.
"Yeah, I'm okay... It's just that I'm not used to this position..."
Duo pretended he was struggling to keep up with Zechs. He didn't want to make Zechs unhappy. Not this night.
"Don't be tense. Relax," Zechs stopped Duo from looking at his feet, "and don't pay attention to my feet. Let me lead, and you'll just have to follow. Look up into my eyes and don't pay attention to the surroundings."
Duo obeyed and relaxed his shoulders. Zechs smiled and slowly started to move again, telling Duo his next move just with his eyes. This time, the dance went smoothly and gracefully that the audience thought they had actually rehearsed this before.
Duo was actually beginning to enjoy this and straightened his back, smiling back at Zechs. Zechs raised his eyebrow as if to say, I told you so. Duo laughed. He had no idea people can communicate so many things just with their eyes.
"Well,... maybe it's because it's Zechs... I don't think he would be able to do so..." Duo remembered about Heero and tried to detect his cold stare. But he couldn't feel it anymore, so he figured he was elsewhere.
The song descended to foreshadow that the end was near. Zechs took few more slow steps and came to a halt. Everyone in the room clapped their hands. Zechs released Duo's hip but held on to Duo's hand. He bowed to the guests and turning back to Duo, he kissed his hand.
"Zechs!!"
Duo snatched his hand away in embarrassment. His cheeks were turning red, so he quickly looked away to see the antique grandfather clock.
"..It's midnight! I... should be getting back... You.. know.. it's kinda late and... I have.. school--"
Even though he wasn't planning to attend class the next day, he needed to say so for an excuse to go back. He had no intentions to stay any longer.
"Okay, Cinderella. I'll take you home."
Zechs giggled and embraced the small shoulders to lead him to his car. Duo quickly took Zechs' hand and turned around to face him.
"Zechs.. I came here with Heero..... So I should go back with him... I'm the one who dragged him here in the first place..."
Duo's eyes looked around the ballroom to find his roommate. He didn't need to look far.
"?? Hey!!"
Duo yelped when something was thrown over his head. He grabbed it and realized it was his jacket.
"It's good to see you again, Heero Yuy."
Zechs smiled at the figure standing behind Duo. Duo turned around and saw Heero nodding his head. He felt the sudden change of atmosphere and felt a sweat drop.
"Heero~, there you are!!"
They all turned to see Relena running to Heero. Duo sighed in relief.
"Oh, hi Zechs. Are you leaving already?"
Relena took Heero's arm and then realized Zechs and Duo were there too.
"No, I'm not going home yet," Zechs glanced at Heero, "I was just going to take Duo home."
Heero didn't change his expression, but Zechs knew the fire in his eyes were burning more fiercely now.
"Heero... if you don't mind," Zechs smiled deeply, "could you take Relena back? I bet she'd like that very much.-It's not safe for young girls to be out alone at this hour.... But I know she's in safe hands if you take her home."
Relena nodded to her brother's suggestion, but Heero stayed expressionless. Duo just listened and waited for what was going to happen. Zechs took the confused boy's hand and pulled him gently.
"Shall we go?"
Duo just nodded and let Zechs guide him out the ballroom. But before he went out the door, Zechs stopped and turned to Duo.
"I should tell Treize that I'm coming back. You'd be surprised how angry he gets if I just ditch him."
Zechs quickly walked towards Treize, without bumping into any guests. Duo's eyes followed until he met the two blue eyes.
Duo wanted to look away, but couldn't. He just stared into them until he realized Zechs was returning. He quickly smiled and waved his hand when he realized Relena was waving at him beside Heero. Zechs turned back and did the same. Heero just turned away and started to walk. Relena ran after him and the two figures disappeared.
"Come this way."
Zechs touched Duo's shoulder and opened the door for him.
Duo didn't say anything while walking with Zechs to his car. He knew he shouldn't, but he felt a little guilt. Heero didn't look like he was having a good time and Duo was the one who dragged him to the party. He thought about apologizing when he got back and felt like an idiot taking him in the first place.
"Gomen, Heero.... I just.... used you...." Duo sighed in the passenger seat of Zech's sports car. He dragged Heero to the party because he didn't want to go alone, that was the truth. But part of not wanting to be alone was.... because he was afraid of facing Zechs. He wanted someone to pull him away from Zechs.... And somehow, he thought Heero would do just that.
"...Turns out he did the opposite... Oh well, I deserve it... This is what happens when you try to use Heero Yuy for your own purposes...." Duo's head was aching all over just by thinking about seeing him back at the dorm. It would be a miracle if he would even talk to him anymore.
"Uhhh... Zechs... This is not the way..."
Duo looked back at the street they were suppose to turn. He turned to Zechs who was looking straight at the street.
"I guessed you didn't want to go back to your room.... Was I wrong?"
Zechs tilted his head and smiled. Duo figured this was the street to Zechs' house.
"....Didn't you tell Treize you were going to return?....."
Duo relaxed and sat back on his seat. Zechs giggled.
"Not exactly..."
Duo wanted to say something, but he had no excuses. He wasn't going to school the next day.... Not until the rumor settles down.
He glanced at Zechs. It was he who started the whole thing.... Duo wondered if he was planning the whole thing from the beginning......
"In any case... you have to take some blame.... I'm not going to be the only one who tastes Heero's fury..."
Zechs laughed slightly and tapped Duo's head.
"You can spend the night at my place... Tonight or any night... Just call and I'll be right over."
Duo nodded and yawned. He realized it was very late and he was surprisingly tired. He figured it was the alcohol in his system.
"...You promised... Remember it."
Duo leaned on the door and closed his eyes. He was relieved he didn't have to see Heero soon. By the time he gets back, he hoped Heero's anger would be cooled.
Not realizing he had just angered him more by making him stay up all night, waiting for his return...

I think this is my first ZechsxDuo story... It's kinda hard because I like him with Noin.. (Not that I don't like ZechsxDuo).
I'm actually thinking of making ZxD fic. Not many of you might be interested, but I am. (grin*) I mean, they both have long (beautiful) hair, good looking, and Heero's so cute when he's jealous*
