List of electives
Summer Internship : 3 credits Summer internship is a valuable learning experience for the student. It also offers recruiters the opportunity to assess the fit between the internee and the organization before final placement. All MBM students are required to complete summer internship of 10 weeks in the summer break between the second and the third semesters. Those students having prior work experience in industry for at least 2 years may choose to work in a focused area to deepen their expertise with a specialist faculty member of the School during the summer. Semester III Choices: Elective Courses; Field Application Course ; Dissertation Project : 27 to 31 credits Students can either do a Dissertation Project (17 credits) during Semester - III Or a combination of electives (13 credits minimum) and one Field Application Course (4 credits). During Semester - IV they would be required to take a few elective courses along with five compulsory courses. The elective courses would have a minimum weightage of 10 credits and a maximum of 12 credits. Students would be required to take the elective courses in different functional areas subject to the total credits from elective courses in Semesters - III and IV in any particular area not exceeding 12. The elective courses can be taken from amongst those offered by VGSOM and other departments of the Institute, namely, Industrial Engg. & Management, Humanities & Social Sciences, Computer Science & Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The objective of the Dissertation Project is to provide students choosing this option an opportunity to learn in a real-world context and enable them to integrate learning across functions and disciplines by working on a project of interest to an organization. It offers recruiters the opportunity to assess at length the fit between the internee and the organization before final placement. The dissertation project can be undertaken only in Semester-III. Students opting for the dissertation project would not be required to study any other subject(s) during the semester. The dissertation project can be undertaken in the same organization as the Summer Internship. During Semester-III, students have the option of either doing a Dissertation Project or a combination of electives and 1 Field Application Course (FAC). The object of the FAC is to give the student an opportunity to apply the tools, techniques, skills and concepts she/he may have already learnt, to the study of actual problems through field studies, computer based analysis and library research. The FAC can be an opportunity to explore a topic in-depth in an area of special interest to a student. It facilitates the integration of several disciplines and functional areas in searching for the solution to a single managerial problem. It provides valuable experience in the definition of a problem, in the search for relevant data, in the analysis of the data and in deriving inferences, conclusions and managerial implications. The FAC can be done by a student individually or in a team having not more than 2 members. |
