Wrecking Cat's dam raced exactly four times, with two places and one show. Her career earnings totaled $14,960. Rick's sire, Tabasco Cat, surpassed his sire, Storm Cat, on the dirt. Tabasco Cat had a very successful racing career. Out of eighteen starts, he won eight times, placed thrice, and took show only twice. His earnings totaled a whopping $2,347,671. Storm Cat raced eight times, winning four times and placing three times. Compared to his offspring, he only earned $570,610. Rick's granddam, Barbicue Sauce, raced several times. During her career of thirty-eight starts, she only won seven races. Equally she placed seven times and took home show three times. Despite all of her racing in her career, she only earned $211,643.
Although Rick never raced himself, to our knowledge, I am positive that he would produce wonderful racing progeny when paired to the right broodmare. Focusing on the hunter/jumper world of showing, he is proving himself to have the conformation, skill, and mindset to excel in this event. At his very first show, held at Red Raven Show Grounds, he took home ribbons. Currently training at the 3'6 level, Rick is showing a lot of courage and determination. He has an airy jump and plenty of speed; we just need to utilize his gaits so he'll place better in under saddle classes.
This young gelding can be a handful at times. He is full of spunk and energy, and willing takes it out on the longeline or under saddle. Most of his time spent in his pasture is grazing, walking around, and gazing at his surroundings. He will pass on fire, conformation, a trainable temperament, and impressive bloodlines onto his offspring. We look forward to breeding this horse when he is older, as well as getting him out in the showing world more.
