The Siberian Husky
This is Stripe, she is a Siberian Husky and also my first dog. Her birthday is on July 16, 1992. I got her when I was about 10 years old. She was my birthday present. All my life I wanted a dog and I finally got one...I was so happy! Unfortunately when I got Stripe I knew little about having a dog and she was not pampered as much as she could have been. From then I have learned quite a bit.
Stripe was a great dog...she knew all the basic commands except heel which was hard as a child (I got dragged more than enough times)  lol.
Siberian Huskies are friendly, gentle, alert and out going. Males are about 21-23 inches, weigh 45-60 lbs and females are about 20-22 inches, wiegh 35-50 lbs.
My mom never liked Stripe, she was scared of dogs. My mom always wanted to give Stripe away. I had always promised Stripe if my mom ever wanted to give her away that I would run away with her. But out of my control...as a child, the day came when my mom suceeded and we gave Stripe away.
I did not get to say a proper goodbye, I got to hug Stripe for two seconds while holding back my tears and trying to show her through my eyes that I was sorry. She  pawed at my leg and whimpered .... then my mom dragged me out. I heard Stripe screaming and clawing at the door as we left and I pleaded my mom to change her mind but no, I broke into tears.
I never felt so horrible for breaking a promise and for ruining a life than at that moment. That day has haunted me for life...I will never forgive my mother. It took me at least two years to accept Stripe as gone and to this day I still get teary eyed after reminiscing. I have no idea of where Stripe might be or if she is even alive today...the only thing that I can hope for is that Stripe had a better life than the one that I had shown her. I wish that she had to go through no more than that one family and forget what abandonment feels like. If I ever bump into Stripe, I only wish that she would remember me, without holding any grudges of giving her away.
The markings of a Siberian change over time. As you see here Stripe is grey with a stripe down her back (hence the name), but as she gets older her stripe spreads over her body, enhanching her markings.
The best thing which I loved about her was her happiness and friendliness to everything...I loved her so much, I just hope she knew that.
The Siberian Husky was originated by Chukchi people, bred to pull sled. The husky is native to Siberia and was brought to Alaska in 1909.
Purebred Siberian Husky can have blue, brown  or even bicoloured eyes (one of each)
