We got Kelsey when she was eight weeks old. She was born June 22, 2001 on a menonite farm. She had one accident in the house and after that she was housebroken. Many Shibas are housebroken in only a few days. She learned her first command "sit" in less than two weeks. She learned "down" in fifteen minutes. She also knows speak, circus pup (she'll balance on her hind legs), crawl, jump, high five, and shake (the two are slightly different). She was a pleasure to train and is a pleasure to show off. I love hearing people say, "I wish my dog listened to me like that!" You may read that Shiba Inus are difficult to train due to their stubborn nature but they are also intelligent and we had no trouble training Kelsey. She loves to walk with my mother and I. Sometimes we'll walk two miles. She adores our cat and a stray that hangs around. She hates our neighbors' two cats! Her best friends are Jerry and Babe, Jack Russel Terriers, and Trevor, also a Shiba. Her favorite toy is her ball. Any squeaky toys get torn to bits. She never tires when outdoors but when she's inside she usually sleeps and is extremely calm. She is a pleasure and a joy to own. |
