Dear Friends,

Thank you for your continuous efforts in helping tsunami Victims of Sri Lanka.

Donation Drive Update: (Food, Med Supplies)

On 06th of January we delivered all your donations to the Buddhist Temple in Queens, NY.  It was a long drive due to the rain. Heavy load of the truck made it hard to drive in the rain, but I certainly enjoyed driving 20 miles an hour in the Midtown tunnel, ignoring the continuous honking behind me. While I was driving I could not help wondering if all my efforts would be a drop in the bucket, compared to the magnitude of this disaster. We reached the temple around 6.30 p.m. Erin and I unloaded the truck in to basement of the temple ourselves, since most of the volunteers have left by then or were busy upstairs. It was rather touching to see that most of the room was filled with big boxes that had “FAMILY BOX’ written on it. As one of the temple volunteers has explained to us, they have been working hard on sorting out the donations, and creating boxes that consist essentials for a families in need.  I thought I would share this with you, in case if you were like me, and wondered if your contribution made a difference. It did.

I would like to specially thank all my friends at Baltimore County Department of IT, Towson University Registrars office, NBCOT, and all my other friends who had helped in fund raising, providing transportation and encouragement me in this effort.

How Can You Help?

Donate Directly To Civilians Helping in Sri Lanka

My family and friends have been helping out in rural area in Sri Lanka that got effected,  where aid is hard to get. So far, we have contributed food, cloths and medicines that are needed.

In the second phase of that, we have decided  to concentrate on one effected area. The money will be spent in getting books, school uniforms and shelter. Due to the severity   of this catastrophe, the nature of needs constantly changes, and will keep you updated in what we were able to do.

Why Are You Writing A Check To A Personal Account?

I have attempted to establish a general checking account for this purpose. However, US federal laws only allow registers non-profit organizations to open such bank accounts. Therefore, at this point out only option is to use a personal account to send money. However, I can guarantee you that your money will get there for much needed help without a doubt.

Money Isn't The Only Help

Help does not have to be money… You can help us with your efforts, prayers and encouragement.

Thank you for your support!

It was like yesterday, when I walked in the Fort of Galle holding my dad's hand. We walked along the gigantic brick walls of famous Galle Fort. Then I was not tall enough to look over the wall to get a glimpse of  beautiful body of water, and the sunshine spread along  reflecting silver lines. Every time we went to my dad's hometown, we made it a point to stop by the Fort to capture a glimpse of the beauty, and the rich history of the city of Galle.

As time pass by, I came to US to study, and life became hectic. But every now and then I remembered Galle, when I thought of home. And when I close my eyes I could almost go there to smell that fresh salty air again.

Far from perfection of the modern world of comfort, Galle was beautiful. Life around it was tide to the sacred sea, the coast, and it's magnificence.

Today, when I watched CNN- Galle was different- Almost unfathomable disaster has shaken it to the roots. With that I know that life in Galle is, and will not be the same again for a very long time.

In a small nation where help will only get to you if your neighbors would reach out, I am making an effort to reach out and help in the smallest way possible. I have made a promise to my self that I will fulfill my duties to my fellow countrymen, and fellow humans.
