Nikki smiled softly, arching her back against the bookcase, her fingers twining through Adam's hair as his mouth moved on her breast.  She sighed his name, her breath catching as he suckled her, gently at first, then with growing ardor.  The sigh became a whimper and her hands clenched, her body tensing as he entered her slowly.  "Ohhhh god . . . Adam!"

His lips left the tight bud of her nipple and captured her mouth.  He pressed her against the bookcase, one hand going to the breast he had left, and she moaned into his mouth.  He kept up the slow, forceful rhythm and Nikki felt fire mounting inside her, forming a tight ball, begging for release.  He didn't give it to her.  Not yet, as she knew very well he wouldn't.  He would draw it out, knowing exactly how far to push her before letting her explode around him, throw her to heights of ecstasy no other had ever equaled.

Nikki kissed him desperately as he moved, against her and inside her, until he released her lips and she managed a soft whimper of sound.  "Please . . . oh god, Adam . . .  please!"

She opened her eyes to see him smile before kissing her again and speeding up slowly.  She cried out, the sound muffled by his lips.  It wouldn't have mattered; he knew exactly what he did to her, whether she acknowledged it vocally or not.

His hand teased and caressed her breast, then his mouth left hers and went to the other, licking and then suckling as he had before.  He nibbled gently, his strokes still hard but speeding up now, and she knew he was as close as she was.  She whispered his name, pleading, and felt him smile against her breast.  He sped up more, allowing her, finally, to come to completion.  She whimpered, anticipating the rush of heat and pleasure that would overwhelm her, take her up inexorably . . .

Adam stopped.

"Oh, no," he said softly.  "No, no, no,  NO!!!"

It sounded like a mantra, albeit a furious one, and Nikki opened her eyes to look at him in confusion.  "What?" she asked breathlessly, the tension inside her unbearable.  What was wrong?  She could feel him hard inside her, could tell by the tension in his muscles that he was as ready as she was for a climax -- so what the hell was stopping him?!  "Adam, what . . . ?"

Adam looked down briefly at her, frowning thunderously.  "I -- ah -- someone's coming."

"Yeah," Nikki said, a bit sourly.  "Or rather, someone  was."

He opened his mouth to say something, then stopped as the sound of someone trying to open the door reached them, followed by a persistent pounding.  Nikki leaned her head against the bookcase and tried not to curse too loudly as Adam slid out of her and grabbed for his clothes.  She felt empty and alone without him, distressingly so.

"God damn it," she heard Adam mutter in Latin, an echo of her own statement in French.  She leaned against the bookcase for a moment more, catching her breath, then reached for her blouse.

The scowl on Methos' face should have been enough to tell MacLeod to go away, but he was too upset to be thinking clearly.  Or that was his defense later.  The older Immortal threw the lock and yanked open the door, hazel-gray eyes glittering.  "See the little sign that says 'Closed,' MacLeod?" he growled.  "That means 'Go away!'  You do recall learning to read two hundred years ago?"

MacLeod frowned and pushed past him obliviously.  "I'm sorry," he said, his mind already framing the questions he needed to ask.  "But I need to talk to you . . ."

The growl was a little more pronounced now, and MacLeod turned around to look at his friend.  "Now is not a good time, MacLeod," Methos said, slowly and precisely, as if restraining himself from violence.

MacLeod's frown turned exasperated.  "What?" he asked haughtily.  "Do you have company?"

Methos' frown grew even darker.  "As a matter of fact --"

"He does," a dulcet voice finished.  MacLeod turned towards the source of the sound and almost had to physically pick his jaw up off the floor.  She wasn't gorgeous, but she was certainly attractive . . . and very underdressed.

"Ah," MacLeod said brightly.

The lovely blonde smiled and finished buttoning one of the middle buttons on the blouse.  Blue eyes sparkled at him in amusement, but the flush on her skin was most definitely not from embarrassment.  An inkling of an idea crept its way into MacLeod's mind and he looked back to Methos.

The older man was watching him with a certain amount of amusement as well, and his skin, MacLeod noted with dismay, had the same flush as the woman's.  Add to that the fact that the shirt hung open on the white chest and the feet below the wrinkled pants were bare, and MacLeod got the sinking feeling that he had arrived in the middle, not the  beginning, of something.  So he did what any gentleman would: he blushed as heavily as his olive-toned skin would allow.

The woman smiled softly and tossed a lock of golden hair over her shoulder.  "You know, Adam," she said conversationally.  "When you said you had a birthday present for me, I was envisioning something a little more . . . conventional . . . but I won't complain."

MacLeod blushed even hotter, though he wouldn't have believed it possible, and started backing for the door, bumping into a few shelves on the way.  That was only made worse by the expression on Methos' face; surprise, amusement, and consideration.  It was the last that got MacLeod all the way to the door without further incident.  "I'll just -- ah -- come back later," he said hastily, and hurried through the door.

Methos followed, giving the Highlander a little wave as he locked the door again.  Then he turned back to Nikki and let himself start laughing.  "Birthday present?" he repeated incredulously.  "Oh!  You little hellion!  Your birthday isn't for another month!"

Nikki grinned and let out the laughter that had been building during MacLeod's exit.  "But it was worth it to see the look on his face!"

He let out another roar at that and swept her up in his arms, still laughing.  "You are absolutely incorrigible!"

She just grinned back and kissed him.  "And you love it."

Adam chuckled and kissed her again, backing her slowly towards the back of the store.  "Yes, I do," he murmured against her lips.  "Now . . . where were we?"

Nikki's hands went to his pants as they reached their destination.  "I believe," she said huskily, unzipping, "we were right . . . about . . . here . . ."
