>>dream or flashback<<
***********************

Quatre was now fully aware of the situation going on in the office, and he could feel nauseating fear rising in his stomach.  The look of terror on the boy's face pleased Wind immensely.

This isn't happening. . .this can't happen to me!  Someone has to save me.  Quatre thought that if, perhaps, he closed his eyes, the nightmare in front of him would disappear.

This did not sit well with the Admiral.  "Don't you  dare look away from me!"  Wind raised his hand as if to strike the boy just as Quatre re-opened his eyes.  The Arabian threw his hand up without thinking, attempting to protect himself.  Admiral Wind became enraged at this.  "I am in control here!  Put your hands behind your back."  When Quatre made no move to follow the order, Wind growled "Now."  This time, the boy complied.

Wind smiled humorlessly.  "That's much better.  Oh, and if you move again, I'll break your arms."  The boy could see clearly that he was not bluffing.  The tall man let his arm fly into the air, and he savagely slapped the boy across the face, drawing blood in the right-hand corner of his mouth.  Quatre wisely remained still, even though it took all of his self-control to do so.

The former Lightning Count was once again pleased.  "I'm glad you understand now.  I think I'll send you back to your cell. . ."  Hope sprang into the boy's innocent blue eyes.  Maybe I was wrong about his intentions.  Wind continued.  "But first, get down on your knees."

The words were spoken without emotion, but Quatre felt like someone had knocked the breath out of him; they hurt worse than the slap he'd just received.  Oh god, no.  This can't happen to me.  It can't!  The Admiral could almost feel the boy's terror; it was like a tangible force in the room.  He was enjoying this even more than he thought he would.  Treize was going to be so proud of him.

Wind put a little more force in his voice now.  "I  said on your knees!"

Quatre violently shook his head.  "No, no. . .you can't!  I've done nothing, nothing. . ."  The man struck him again, even harder than before, drawing another fresh stream of blood from the quivering mouth.

"You're going to learn, right now, that you are NOTHING!  As far as we are concerned, you're a worthless murderer."  He grabbed the small boy and threw him to the ground.  Quatre lay still, too frightened to move from the vulnerable position.  The sight of the little blonde lying on the floor beneath him excited Wind, and he quickly jerked Quatre into a kneeling position.

The man took off his long, dark blue jacket and unzipped his pants.  The boy could not register what was about to happen; only one thought echoed through his mind:  No!  Somewhere, Quatre still hoped for a rescue, but things were beginning to take on a dream-like quality.  This can't be real.  It can't!

Wind was reveling in his complete power over his prisoner.  "Take it out."  Quatre remained unresponsive.  "If you don't start cooperating, there are much worse things I could do to you."  A cold smile came to the man's lips.  "Much, much worse."

Quatre was repulsed by the idea of touching the man's. . .anything, but fear of torture and death gave him enough courage to reach into Wind's pants and free the throbbing organ.  The Admiral let out a pleased sigh, the brief contact arousing him further.  The boy froze, casting his eyes to the ground.

Wind lost his patience after a few seconds went by.  "Well?  What are you waiting for? He snapped.

The boy, still looking down at the floor, mumbled "I, I don't know what to do."

Wind knew this, of course, but Quatre's innocence was one of the things that made this so enjoyable to him.  "Figure it out!" he hissed.  The small blonde began to sob, cascades of tears falling down his fragile face.  Oh god, someone help me, please, help me!

"You idiot!" the Admiral shouted, grabbing Quatre's head and pulling him towards his fully erect, aching cock.  "Open your mouth, I've got a present for you."  Wind's mocking voice served to further humiliate the boy.

Wincing, Quatre did as he was told, tears still falling from his eyes.  Oh god. . .  Taking the man into his mouth a little, Wind pushed himself fully into the warm cavity, causing the Arabian to gag.  Quatre could feel bile rising in the back of his throat; as much as he wanted to vomit, though, he swallowed it down, knowing that this would cause Wind to beat him further.

The Admiral let out a soft moan, the boy's constricting throat stimulating him.  "Suck!" he demanded.  Quatre obeyed, trying desperately to fight the urge to pass out.  As he attempted to follow Wind's orders, the man began to thrust against the boy's mouth, his hips moving forwards and back, forwards and back.  The Arabian was gagged again; he didn't know how much more of this he could take.

Even though Wind had a death grip on his head, he could most likely get away from him, but Quatre knew he couldn't escape the room.  He was completely at the Admiral's mercy.  With each passing moment, Wind seemed to move closer and closer to something, his thrusts becoming faster and faster.  And suddenly, Quatre felt a hot, bitter liquid fill his mouth, choking him.

The boy pulled away, spilling the liquid all over himself, the Admiral's legs, and the floor.  Wind looked down at him with a furious expression.  "You little bitch!  Look what a mess you've made!"  He grabbed Quatre by the shoulders and ripped him up off the floor.  Quatre screamed then, putting all of the terror, shame, and horror that he felt into his voice.

The Admiral's face lost its furry, something even darker and foreboding taking over his features.  "Now you'll have to be punished."

Duo was beginning to doubt that the new tunnel he'd discovered actually led to this Wind person's office.  Maybe I should go back to the lab and try again.  At that moment, he heard an inhuman cry come crashing through the shaft, causing the hair on his arms and the back of his neck to stand on end.  It had sounded as if someone had just had their soul stripped away.

Is that Quatre?  It hadn't sounded like him; but then again, it hadn't sounded like  anything human, either.  Whoever it was, their voice had come from the direction he was heading.  Duo increased his pace down the tunnel, crawling as quickly as he could, soreness and all.

When he finally came to a room, something told him he didn't want to see what was going on inside.  Screwing up his courage, he peered down through the ceiling grate and saw. . .nothing, only a large desk littered with papers.  He moved in closer and turned his head sideways, peering to the left.  Nothing there, either.  He turned his head to the right; Duo was taken aback by the scene before him.

Quatre was on his hands and knees, his pants pulled down around his thighs.  Some blonde-headed man was deep inside the boy, thrusting with a wild, crazed energy.  Duo could also make out blood running down his friend's legs.  The American felt his entire body ignite with rage and disgust.  Oh my god!  Quatre!

He tried to fight his emotions under control; if he flew crazily into the room, then he would have no chance of saving the Arabian.  He quietly removed the grate and positioned himself over the opening.  Dropping to the floor with a soft thud, he paused for a moment to make sure the man hadn't heard him.  The sick bastard's too busy at the moment, I guess.

Creeping silently towards the two, Duo snatched a large, ceramic model of a transport shuttle from the desk.  Sounds of the man's pleasure and Quatre's s sobs filled Duo's ears as he approached the Admiral from behind.  Raising his weapon, Duo brought the shuttle crashing down on the back of the man's head. Die you son of a bitch!

Wind (for Duo decided it must surely be him) fell over sideways, coming out of Quatre and lying to rest on his back.  Just as he was about to make sure the man was dead, Duo was shocked by what he saw.  Zechs?  But he. . .  Quatre's wild, crazed eyes pierced into his chest, and Duo didn't have time to think about the tall blonde maniac anymore.  Sweet Jesus.

The Arabian didn't seem coherent at all; he flew away from Duo as the American tried to help him up off the floor.  Curling into a ball in a distant corner, Quatre began to shudder violently, silent sobs racking his body.  Duo spoke softly, soothingly, as he walked towards the convulsing mass that used to be Quatre.

"Listen, Quatre, it's going to be okay.  You've got to pull yourself together, though.  We aren't out of the woods yet; we've got to get out of here."  Duo reached out to gently touch the boy's shoulder, only to have Quatre recoil and begin shouting.

"Don't  touch me!  I don't want anyone to  ever touch me again!"  The blonde broke down into even worse sobs, and curled even further in on himself.

"Oh Quatre. . ."  Duo didn't know what to do or say.  He only knew that if they didn't get out of there, and soon, there was going to be trouble.  Quatre began to chant something, so softly at first that Duo couldn't make it out.  As the chant became louder, Duo felt his heart break at the pain-filled sound.

"Help me, mother, help me, mother, help me, mother. . ."

Duo lowered his head closer to his friend and, ever so softly, whispered "Quatre, please, let me help you."  Soft blue eyes flew up to his face, the faintest hint of recognition hidden in them.<<<<<

Even though he had been trying to ignore the chatty American, Heero was becoming slightly annoyed at Duo's silence.  I'm getting a headache from the lack of sound in here!

He could understand Trowa quietly staring out the window.  He could even understand Muya and Wufei's quietude, due to the fact that they had decided, 50 miles back, that they weren't speaking to each other.  He could also forgive Quatre's muteness, since the boy often got like that lately.  Heero suspected he was dealing with some inner demons, probably having to do with the last time he was captured.

I'm sure he hates me for leaving him there.  Hell, I'd hate me too.  But we all knew the rules going into this.  But Duo's silence was the last straw!  The American was hardly  ever quiet, especially not for this long.

Just as Heero was about to shock Duo and the rest of his companions by striking up a conversation, the Japanese boy noticed something on Duo's face.  Are those tears?  Heero decided it was best not to disturb the group after all.  Something inside of him ached, and he wasn't sure whether it was his heart or his stomach.  He just had the overwhelming desire to comfort his friend.

He's not your friend.  You haven't got room for friends.  You're a soldier, a leader.  At the drop of a hat, you've got to be ready to kill, even your 'friends' and yourself.  And yet, with each day that passed, he found it more and more difficult to believe these things he told himself.  For some reason, the more time he spent around Duo, the more he wanted to live.

When the vehicle finally came to a stop, all six of its occupants immediately began opening doors and jumping out into the crisp white snow covering the ground.  One thing was disturbing Wufei, though.  Where was this base they were about to invade?

Heero was at the back of the jeep, unloading weapons and other assorted 'implements' they would need.  "Let's go over the plan."

"That would be nice." Duo sang sarcastically, apparently over his melancholy.  The five pilots and Dr. Kemerov gathered in a huddle by the rear bumper.

Muya, eyeing all the guns and explosives the boys were arming themselves with, thought she'd better clear something up.  "You know, all we have to do is meet my double at the west entrance in. . ." she glanced down at her watch to check the time, "30 minutes; I slip in, she slips out, and then you guys take her back to the Bodaybo base.  I don't think that will require any of this!"  She indicated the numerous weapons they all seemed to be anxiously clutching.

Wufei snorted derisively.  "What entrance?  I don't see anything but ice and snow."

Muya, still worried that the young men were going to blow her cover by blowing something up, pointed northward.  "It's underground, remember?"

"Yes, but how do we get inside?"

"We aren't getting inside, I am!"

"That remains to be seen!"

Heero shot them both a cold glare and began speaking, effectively ending their argument.  "We'll use these trees for cover."  He indicated the surrounding lush coniferous forest with his eyes.  "The west entrance to the base is located 1500 yards in that direction."  Heero pointed towards the supposed location of the entrance.  "As Dr. Kemerov pointed out, our mission is simply to deliver her to the enemy base, retrieve her double, and deliver  her back to Bodaybo.  We are to remain unnoticed, but, should we encounter resistance. . ."

Duo cut him off, cheerfully replying "No witnesses."

Heero glanced at the boy standing next to him.  "That's right."

Trowa frowned.  "We're going to march over there in one big group?  That's hardly inconspicuous."

Heero frowned back at him.  "Wufei and Quatre will accompany Dr. Kemerov.  Duo will monitor any readings we can get from the base, while Trowa and I will keep an eye on things at the edge of the woods."

Wufei narrowed his eyes.  "What do you mean 'keep an eye on things'?"

Heero picked up on of the riffles he had brought along for just this purpose.  "With these sniper rifles.  Just in case things get out of hand."

*      *      *

Trowa smiled to himself, glad that he was being assigned to something he was good at.  Still, he was concerned with some of the other assignments Heero had come up with.  Him and Heero being the snipers made sense; after all, they were the best shots in the group.  And sending Wufei with Muya was smart too, as the Chinese boy was quite skilled at hand to hand combat, should the need arise.  But Quatre?  The small Arabian was much better at working the monitors.  *Duo should be the one going with Muya and Wufei, not Quatre.

And then it hit Trowa.  He's trying to protect Duo, giving him the job with the least risk!  Damn him!  He was putting them  all at risk because of some silly infatuation.  Trowa debated whether he should say anything or not.  If I remain silent, the whole mission could go wrong. . .but if I say something, Heero will probably just ignore me.

Realizing there was nothing he could do, Trowa set about the task of getting to know the riffle Heero had laid out for him.

*      *      *

Duo felt his stomach jump when Heero outlined everyone's function on the mission.  Why does Quatre have to go?  The American knew there was going to be trouble; this was the first mission they'd been on since Quatre's incident.

I still can't bring myself to even think it, can I?  Always thinking 'incident' or 'assault'; rape is such a nasty word.  Duo looked over at Quatre who was quietly staring towards the hidden base, his face a perfect mask of indifference.  The American jogged over to his friend, needing to talk.

He moved in close to the other boy, less than three feet between them, and spoke in a confidential tone.  "Listen, I know you're probably still not up to this.  I'll just talk to Heero and you and I can switch places."

Quatre seemed horrified.  "Talk to him about what?  You promised,  swore, you'd never tell  anyone what happened, especially Heero!"

"No, no; I didn't mean that!  I was just going to convince him that it would be better if I went instead, that's all."

Duo's mind flashed with a picture of his friend, crying uncontrollably, babbling like a madman.  You-you-you can't tell anyone, ever!  They'll think it was my fault.  They can't know I let him. . .  And then he heard his own voice, angry and forceful.  Let him!  You didn't 'let him' do anything!  He forced himself on you!  The barely audible reply still sent a chill down his spine.  I could have used my pill. . .Heero said they work instantly.  Duo shook his head violently to clear his thoughts.

"Quatre, let me talk to Heero.  I won't tell him anything, I swear!"

"No!  The bastard wouldn't listen to you anyway.  This is the way it has to be.  One of these days, he's going to succeed, and then he'll be rid of me for good!"

Duo shook his head sadly, hatred of the man who had done this to his friend welling up in his throat.  Zechs, you'd better stay hidden, because if I ever find you, you're gonna' pay for turning him into  this.  "Fine, I won't say anything to Heero.  But you be careful, okay?"

"Oh, I'm sure  Wufei will protect me."  The hatred literally dripped from Quatre's voice; it was quite evident that he put some of the blame for his attack on Wufei.  Duo well knew that Zechs had  told Quatre that Wufei had been the one they were really after.

"Don't forget, Trowa and Heero will be watching you guys' backs."

"I wouldn't turn my back on Heero if I were you." The small blonde said slowly.

The pilot in question called out to the group.  "All right, it's time."

Duo gave Quatre one last worried look.  "Be careful."

Quatre gave him a brave smile.  "I will."

The American sighed as he ran back to the relative safety of the truck.  Maybe if I concentrate on these readings, I won't worry so much.  Duo found, after a few moments, however, that this was not the case.

*      *      *

Quatre, Wufei, Muya, Heero, and Trowa all crept silently, wordlessly, through the forest.  The small blonde was having difficulty keeping his mind on the mission, a practice he  knew was very dangerous.  I've got to concentrate; if I don't, it could get me killed.  Every time he tried to focus, however, random thoughts kept popping in on him.

No, not random thoughts, thoughts about what Wind had done to him.  I let him do it; I could have gotten away, done something.  I'm so sick, I probably enjoyed it!  Shame overwhelmed him to the point of dizziness, almost making him trip.  No, I can't do this around Heero.  He's like a dog; if he sees one sign of weakness, it'll give him the reason he's been looking for to take me out.

They reached the edge of the woods and paused for a moment.  Heero took the riffle off his back and looked down its length toward the exchange point.  "Remember, Trowa and I will be right back here.  If you get into trouble, just get out of the line of fire."

Wufei nodded and Muya said, "Right.  Let's go!"

The three moved off through the blinding whiteness, the Chinese boy and the doctor both trying to take the lead.  Quatre only rolled his eyes and tried not to listen to Wind's voice in his head.  "You're nothing. . .worthless.  Maybe someday he'd stop believing the words.
