It's not usually my policy to start writing fanfic before a season is over . . . but Carrin was too insistent, as was Pelagia.  So, by the end of the season, a number of events in this story (and the ones to follow) will go against canon.  These things happen . . . fans and producers don't always have the same vision for a television show or movie.

A few notes . . . first, the song which Carrin sings in Chapter Five, after she's viewed her own capture by the hunters (as well as the destruction of the Sula tribe), is a song I vaguely remember from my own childhood.  If anyone recognizes the song, please let me know.  It's been twenty years since I sang it, and I don't even know the name.

For those who watch the show, this is set directly after "Circle of Life" (as you probably realized from the references to Ruh almost killing Dar) and before "Riddle of the Nymph" and "Valhalla" (which haven't aired yet at this time).  While the impression was given that Ruh 'apologized' to Dar for what he did while under Ketzwayo's spell, it only seemed logical that he and the other animals would become even more protective of Dar.

Finally, some threads in the story (such as the Lothian attacks) were left dangling . . . this was deliberate, since I intend to come back to those threads in upcoming stories.  The next story is  Choices of the Gods; if you've seen the episode "The Demon Curupira," it's been demonstrated that Dar is great with kids . . . but this will be a challenge for him.  Imagine trying to take care of a baby, travel,  and deal with marauders!

Many more stories are planned, but be patient with me.  I'm in the process of finishing my  Stargate SG1 story, and I'm still working on my two  Poltergeist the Legacy universes.  Those, in addition to the original stories I'm writing.  And if you like what you've read in  Birthright, please let me know!  I almost stopped writing my  Dream Walker series (PTL) because I thought no one was reading them anymore!  You can email me at [email protected] or [email protected], and I usually write back.  Thanks for reading my story!
