Authors' Note: AOL's "Instant Messages" are such handy things. This is our ideal of what might/could/should have happened just before the end of "Amazons." Emphasis on should have. Hypolita was quite . . . ah . . . insistent on that. ;-) The story title is taken from a stanza in the "balcony scene" of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare.
Swear Not By the Moon

He should have thought this a dream. But he wasn't dreaming, and he knew it. He didn't care. He didn't want to think about what it meant. Milina was almost fully recovered from the poison, and he and Tao would be leaving in the morning. And if he did not have this night with her . . . he would wonder for the rest of his days what might have been. Although how he had let her talk him into this, precisely, was another question entirely.
Then she finished undressing, laying her vest and skirt on a table within the tent, and all he cared about was the fall of light on her hair, on her skin, slowly coming to illuminate her eyes as she moved towards the bed where he lay. The promises of what was to come. Soon.
The sheets were soft underneath him, pillows guarding his back from the hard wooden frame behind him. The wooden frame to which his wrists were bound, comfortably but securely. He couldn't have gotten out of those carefully tied knots if he had wanted to. He didn't want to. He wanted only what she promised as she approached, her body as bare as his own, moving with that catlike grace he had seen when she had followed him in the forest, when she had fought Castrone's men. She came fully into the light of the torches and his breath caught on her name.
"Hypolita . . ."
The Amazon smiled softly at the bound man on her bed. Gods, she was so beautiful! Made even more beautiful by the slightly wicked edge to her smile as she gently teased, "I have you exactly where I want you, BeastMaster." She moved closer to the bed, and the torch light cast strange, beautiful light on her face.
He managed to say, "My name is Dar."
The smile grew ever more wicked as she replied, "Dar. 'Tis far more fitting to your current circumstances than 'BeastMaster'." Dar found himself blushing, then the blood rushed from his face . . . further south. Much further south. Her eyes took in this new development, and she murmured, "Mmm. You do look good enough to eat."
She sat down on the bed beside him, running the tip of her finger over his face, along his cheeks, his lips. She leaned in close, murmuring, "Not yet, my beautiful Dar. Not quite yet." She lowered her head slightly, kissing the side of his neck, then trailing kisses along his collarbone, the hollow of his throat. She hadn't touched him yet, and it was driving him slowly insane.
Smooth, warm, her lips like velvet against his skin, every sense heightening as her slow exploration of him continued. Down from his throat to the line of his shoulders, taut with tension as well as from the position he was in. Her hands slid up the sensitive skin on the inside of his arms, up to the even more sensitive skin of his wrists where they were bound, skimming over the silken cords holding him to the bed while her mouth continued lower. Her lips reached his chest, butterfly light against pectoral muscles that were beginning to strain now, his need growing to touch her, hold her, caress her . . .
A slight flick of her tongue as that wonderful mouth reached one hard nipple, and Dar gasped. Gods . . . he wanted to kiss her, feel that mouth on his own . . . instincts and desires he had suppressed so well when he had seen her that first time, and the next, when she had saved his life in turn. But he also wanted to feel her mouth travel lower, feel its velvet trace across his abdomen . . . and lower still. Caught between so many desires, all he could do was whisper her name.
He felt her smile against his skin as she answered, "Dar . . . my beautiful BeastMaster . . . soon. But now . . . tell me what you wish of me."
Dar could hardly breathe and Hypolita whispered, "Perhaps this? I am so unskilled in what a man desires, I can only guess." She began caressing his ribs with her mouth and Dar moaned softly. Hypolita whispered, her breath soft against his skin, "I believe that was a yes. Perhaps a little lower, then?"
Her lips gently brushed his belly, and Dar closed his eyes, feeling his erection intensify. Hypolita murmured, "Oh my. Perhaps I am not so unskilled as I thought. Perhaps this then?" Dar nearly came off the bed when her tongue began delicately tracing his abdominal muscles . . . it was only Hypolita's palms on his thighs which kept him still. He moaned her name again, and Hypolita whispered, "Ohh, I like tasting you. I want more. I want to feel you . . . yes, it is time for me to feel you."
Her hands moved from their position on his thighs, still palm down, gliding against the soft scattering of hair, moving inwards . . . Dar's breath caught and his head dropped back slightly on the pillows, his eyes closing in anticipation. She didn't disappoint him. Gently, but not hesitantly, her hands met over his cock, touching the eager skin lightly. Her hands moved slowly until one hand lay above and one below, fingers closing gently so that one hand began to stroke his shaft while the other lightly cradled and caressed his scrotum.
Hypolita sighed slightly as he moaned. He could almost hear the smile in her voice as she spoke. "I have never touched a man before, my beautiful Dar. I did not think you would be so soft . . . so hot . . ." Her weight shifted slightly on the bed as she leaned forward, her hands still caressing, stroking, making him even more ready -- and he had thought that impossible. "Do you enjoy my touch, BeastMaster? Do you wish it?"
Dar groaned and opened his eyes, catching her gaze. She looked so beautiful . . . so radiant . . . her mane of dark hair glowing with auburn in the torch-light, her dark eyes smiling at him. "I do . . .," he whispered. "You . . . are so beautiful . . ."
"And do you desire me, sweet Dar?"
Dar smiled. "If my hands were not bound . . ."
Hypolita smiled wickedly. "But they are. And I have no intention of loosing them. You make such a lovely picture, stretched out so before me . . . helpless, vulnerable . . . trusting me . . ." She paused, her lower hand leaving his scrotum to lightly circle the tip of his cock with her thumb as she asked, "Do you trust me, Dar? With your body . . . with yourself?"
Dar trembled, staring at the woman. Trust. Why was such a short word so frightening? He trusted Tao, but that was different. That was a different kind of trust. This was . . . far more frightening. Why couldn't he answer her? She had saved his life, had fought at his side. Why was it so bloody difficult for him to answer her question?
Hypolita's face changed in the torchlight, and she released him . . . just long enough to return to the top of the bed where his head rested. She lifted him into her arms. Not an easy thing to do, and Dar's arms protested the strain, but Hypolita drew his head to rest against her bosom. She gently stroked his hair, murmuring, "There is no need to fear me, sweet Dar. Or yourself. I will only take what you feel free to give, nothing more." She kissed his forehead.
"I do trust you," Dar answered hoarsely "I do trust you. You saved my life, risked your life and your place as an Amazon to do so."
Hypolita kissed his forehead again, murmuring, "Has it been so very long, sweet Dar, since a woman has held you? Why do you deny yourself comfort? Why are you so afraid to take what I offer you?"
Dar hesitated, then said softly, "I love a woman. Kyra. She was taken from me . . ."
"And you seek her now." A nod answered the soft question. "And you fear betraying her? Losing her?"
Dar sighed. "In the Sula . . . it was not common, but . . . sometimes there were more than two people to a marriage."
Hypolita smiled softly and kissed his forehead again. "But the Sula are no more. You feel an obligation to your tribe as well as to your love. For though Kyra is of your tribe . . . I am not."
Dar looked up at her, wanting to trace the lines of her face, comb back the soft fall of her hair, ease the sadness in her eyes that reflected his own. "You are not," he agreed. "You are . . . more. You are not like any woman I have ever known. Brave, and beautiful, and dangerous . . . You fight like a tigress, and smile like a lover . . ." He considered and then admitted, "That is what I fear. Not betrayal, of Kyra or of my tribe, for neither would think this wrong. I fear . . . losing myself in you. Losing myself to you. And then . . . losing you. My heart. My soul."
Hypolita smiled and shifted on the bed, lying half-atop him, the soft swell of her breast, the line of her ribs and thigh, warm against his skin. "You could never lose yourself, Dar. And you could never lose your heart or soul, even if you lost me as you have lost your love. You are the BeastMaster. You are Dar." She smiled softly and kissed him, on the mouth this time. "And I think I have loved you from the first time we truly spoke, after you saved me from the tiger. But even if I had not -- I would love you now. I would love you always. For who you are, and who you will remain. With or without me."
She tenderly caressed his face, saying softly, "You do not see what I see when I look at you. You are a beautiful man, but that is not simply because of your pleasing appearance. It is because of your tenderness when you cared for our new sister Milina. It is because of your fierce desire to protect those who cannot protect themselves. It is because you have a tender heart . . . you are both lover and fighter. You are a warrior because you love." She kissed his lips again. Dar started to speak, but Hypolita continued, "You are beautiful for your eyes, your smile, the way your hair seems to glow in the sunlight. You are beautiful, so very beautiful to me. And that is why I give you this gift now."
She lowered her head to kiss his mouth, her hands slipping from his face to wind through his hair. As she kissed him, her body shifted ever so subtly, until she was straddling him. She paused for a moment, raising her head to look down at him, ask permission. Dar smiled and leaned his head up, capturing her mouth again, the kiss both soft and demanding. "How could I refuse such a gift?" he asked. Sincerely.
Hypolita smiled, that same slightly wicked edge to her lips. "Good," she chuckled lightly. "I'm glad we have that settled."
Dar smiled and shifted slightly on the bed, lifting his hips so that his erection slid against her parted thighs, eager, promising, asking. "I trust you, Hypolita," he said, his voice soft as his eyes met her own. "With my body . . . and with myself."
Hypolita smiled and leaned forward, her mouth alighting on his as she slowly sank down onto him. If he could have, Dar would have wrapped around this beautiful, extraordinary woman. As it was, he kissed her passionately, his cries stifled against her mouth. But while his hands and arms were . . . still, hers were not. They ran along his bound arms, caressing the straining muscles. She broke off the kiss, whispering his name, then smiled into his eyes. She had to do more of the work, but Dar helped where he could, moving his hips to meet her motions.
He gasped as her hands trailed down his bound arms, along his sides, her fingertips lightly grazing his waist, then her hands circled around to his back. They found a rhythm, moving together in a dance that had no boundaries, no music other than desire and satisfaction. His body seemed to fit perfectly with hers, the core of her hot and tight around his cock, holding him tightly, urging him on, needing him as he needed her.
He filled her completely and met each eager downward thrust of her hips with a lift of his own, going deep within her, feeling her hands circle back to grasp tightly at his shoulders. Her cries sent hot waves of energy through him, augmenting the sensations that already existed, her voice by his ear as she lowered her forehead to rest against the side of his own. Her body was hot, urgent, demanding, taking and giving. Desire spiraled ever higher, threatening to drive him mad until sensation exploded around him and he heard her cries take on a different note, felt her inner muscles clench tight about his cock.
Hypolita whispered his name over and over again, as Dar was poured into her. At last, they collapsed together, gasping on the bed. Sweat poured from both and Hypolita wearily shifted her position until she was lying beside him. Neither could speak . . . they could both barely breathe, much less speak.
They just lay still, breathing hard, and at last, Hypolita drew his head to rest on her bosom once more, kissing his damp hair. She whispered, "Thank you, my beautiful BeastMaster, my sweet Dar."
Dar had just enough energy to gasp, "For what? I did nothing."
Hypolita laughed, kissing the side of his head, and murmured, "Silly, silly man. You have no idea what you have given me. I will tell you. Sometime. Sleep now. I will hold you, just sleep."
Dar smiled and asked wryly, "May I sleep unbound?" She raised herself onto one elbow and arched an eyebrow at him. Dar grinned at her, but his tone was serious as he added, "I would like to hold you as well, Hypolita . . . Please."
Hypolita smiled softly. "I would like to be held," she murmured. She reached up and undid the knots with a deceptively simple twist, then gently rubbed Dar's shoulders as he lowered his arms.
"My thanks," he said softly. When the slight ache diminished, he shifted position and finally wrapped his arms about her, dropping a gentle kiss on her forehead as she lowered her head to rest against his shoulder. "Now, we sleep," he murmured, already feeling the exhaustion their . . . activities . . . had provoked.
Hypolita smiled against his hot skin. "Now we sleep," she agreed, and closed her eyes.
