Chapter 3~ Gotta Be Careful
“Okay,
how does this taste?” Morgan asked me. She shoved a sugar cookie inside my
mouth. I
frowned at the bitter taste and said something that sounded like, “Why do you
always bake cookies?” Half of the crumbs of the cookie were still lying on my
tongue. The rest of the crumbs were falling out of my mouth. “If
you want to throw it up, go to the bathroom,” Morgan sighed. “Thanks,”
I replied in relief. I bolted for the bathroom. Once I came out Morgan was
standing at the door. “Whoa!
I didn’t know you were waiting for me to come out,” I laughed. “The
cookies weren’t that bad. I didn’t think you would actually throw it up. I
heard you hacking in there. Are you okay?” Morgan asked with a straight face. “No,
I’m fine. My mom just made me eat some horrible breakfast. It’s just an upset
stomach,” I covered up. “Okay,
well tell me more about this Frankie guy,” Morgan changed the subject. She
stared me up and down. I knew that Morgan still thought that something was
wrong with me. I didn’t want to push anything, so I pulled out Frankie’s
picture from my book bag. It was the same picture I stole from the magazine
rack. “Whoa!
What a bod!” Morgan screamed. “Yeah,
I know. Isn’t he? You should get to know his personality. It’s even better,” I
talked on and on about Frankie. “Don’t
forget what Josh did to you,” Morgan reminded me, “Promise me you won’t rush
things with Frankie? I don’t want you to have your heart broken and slump around
all day. I don’t want you to be like that again.” “Okay,
I promise. He probably doesn’t even like me anyway. You got nothing to worry
about,” I smiled at Morgan. She was my best friend in the entire world. The
number one thing I needed then was someone who looked out for me. I was glad
that Morgan fulfilled that need right then and there. When
I arrived at the Galasso’s home, Mrs. Galasso reviewed the rules and left
quickly. Frankie wasn’t home yet. I hated being alone in a huge house.
Actually, I hated being alone period. I
reminisced of Josh. I remembered exactly how he smelt, exactly what he wore,
exactly how he looked, and exactly what he said on the day our relationship
ended. When it did end, I kept on saying to myself, “Nobody wants you. You’re a
freak. Josh doesn’t want you. Nobody wants you.” I
shook my head and searched around for my pills again. I popped two of them in
my mouth to remove any thought of Josh. I was watching TRL on TV. Backstreet
Boys was number one with “More Than That”. I was just resting sloppily on the
couch while listening to their song. I heard footsteps coming as I heard people
sing along to “More Than That”. I smiled when Frankie and his friends came into
the room singing. They were pretty good singers. I
started to sing along, too. I was one of the best singers in school. In fact, I
was in the special choir at school. I loved to sing, especially to the
Backstreet Boys. Frankie was singing along with me when he grabbed my hand and
bent down on one knee. It felt like he meant all the words he was singing to
me. It reassured me that Frankie wasn’t like Josh. He was something special.
The five guys made a routine as they kept on singing along. When the song
finished they all posed. I flashed a smile at Frankie. “I
am just dieing to know how you guys learned to sing and dance like that,” I
glanced at Frankie. “See,
that’s the problem,” Matt began. “Yeah,
because if we told you…” Greg continued. “Well,
then we’d have to…” Jesse and Chris said together. “We’d
have to kill you,” Frankie concluded. I started to laugh. I always fell for
guys who knew how to dance. “So
are you hungry? I’m dieing to eat!” Frankie exclaimed. “Umm…no,
I’m not-” I started to say. “Shh!
Do you hear that?” Jesse whispered, “That’s my stomach grumbling.” Even though
Jesse was a bit…weird, we burst out into laughter. Frankie
punched Jesse in the arm, “You’re always eating!” I
had loads of fun with Frankie then. I’ll never forget that night when I fell
asleep in his arms. We were just lying on the couch together while everyone
else was on the floor. I drooped my eyes a couple times before closing them
shut on Frankie’s chest. I remember exactly how he smelt, exactly what he wore,
and exactly how he looked. When
I awoke, Frankie was nudging me. Mrs. Galasso was just staring at Frankie and
me while laughing. “How
cute!” Mrs. Galasso shouted. “Awww!
How cute!” Chris mimicked Frankie’s mom. I couldn’t help but let out a laugh. “MOM!
Stop!” Frankie warned his mom. “Oh,
all right. Robyn, here’s your $50. We’ll call you if we need you again,” she
replied. Frankie
walked me to the door and said, “I’ll probably call you before my parents do.” “I’d
like that,” I smiled at Frankie. He was terribly sweet. He opened the door and
lead both of us out to his porch. He started to lean his lips onto mine. I
turned my head, so he only kissed my cheek. “I’m
really sorry, Frankie. I don’t want to take things too fast,” I tried to
explain. I wanted to kiss him so bad, but I promised Morgan I wouldn’t. “I
understand,” Frankie replied, “Can we start off with a hug?” “Well
I don’t know. Things are kind of hectic around here, but I’ll check my schedule
to see if I can fit you in,” I played with his head. I threw my arms around his
body and didn’t let go until a few minutes later. I left his house and walked
home, not wanting to let go of Frankie’s thoughts. - - - - -Frankie- - - - - I
caught myself dancing my way back inside my house. I know that Robyn didn’t
kiss me, but at least she showed interest in me. I opened the front door and
caught Jesse, Matt, Greg, and Chris peeking through the window. “Hey
Frankie! Thanks for the show,” Jesse laughed. “I
don’t want to take things too fast, Frankie,” Chris said in a girly voice,
trying to imitate Robyn. “Well
at least you got her under you spell,” Greg said. “Yo
Frankie! Your girl left her bag here,” Matt held up a baby blue Nike bag. “Number
one-she’s not my girl…not yet. And number 2-give me her bag. I’ll get it to her
in the morning,” I replied. “Yeah,
cuz you know how girls are,” Greg started to say, “always tight with their bags
and belongings.” Greg and the rest of the gang left my house. I took Robyn’s
bag up to my room. It smelt of peaches, just like her. I couldn’t help but take
a peak inside her bag. I
looked through the largest part of her bag. There was a picture of a boy that
looked my age. On the back of the picture, there was note: My Baby Robyn~ You
are always and forever my baby! You are soo awesome. I’m soo happy that Julia
introduced me to you. I’ll never EVER stop lovin’ ya! Luv
U Lots ~Josh Did
Robyn have a boyfriend? She couldn’t have! I frowned and looked through her bag
some more. There was lipstick, eye stuff, sparkles, and a little diary. I know
I shouldn’t have done this, but I looked at the last entry of the diary. Dear Diary, I’m
doing better than usual today. I met this really hot guy, Frankie. He is sooo
sweet! It’s kinda funny how we met. I can’t stop thinking about him. Morgan
said that he might be another Josh McWell. I really hope he isn’t. I guess I
just gotta be careful. ~Robyn Greg
was right. I did have her under my spell. I wondered what she meant by “doing
better than usual”. I guessed that Josh was her ex. I smiled to myself. It was
then that I understood why she wanted to take things slow. Things with her and
Josh probably went too fast and didn’t work out. A
picture fell out of her diary. I picked it up and saw the weirdest thing. It
was a picture of Chris and me holding up the peace sign at camp. That picture
was lost for a year. I wondered how Robyn came upon it. I placed all the things
back into Robyn’s bag and noticed a tiny pocket at the side. I
opened it and saw a white bottle filled with pills. On the front of the bottle
it said, “Prozac”. In little print below it, it said, “The anti-depressant
pill.” My mouth dropped wide open. I immediately put the bottle back into the
pocket. What was wrong with Robyn? Why was she on anti-depressant pills? What’s
happening to Robyn! |
