Chapter 2~Startling Visitor I noticed
there was a magazine rack in the corner, so I decided to see what kind of
magazines this family was into. There were a lot of magazines that had Creed on
the cover. On the other side of the magazine rack there were a lot of magazines
on Business. There was a hidden picture in the back of the magazine rack. It
was of two guys that held up the peace sign. “Not
bad,” I said to myself. I stuck the
picture in my pocket. Click
click. I heard someone trying to open the
front door. I jumped up from the floor and hesitated. I slowly walked closer to
the front door. “Hold on,
guys. The key isn’t going in,” a boy said on the other side. I came to my
senses and grabbed an umbrella near the foyer. “Give me that!” I heard
another voice from the other side of the door, “See? I got it in.” The door
suddenly opened. There were five boys standing in the doorway. Two of them
looked familiar. The one in front of all of them had dark brown hair that
spiked up. He had a black shirt that was un-buttoned. He had something that
most guys didn’t have: abs. “What the
hell are you doing?” I asked unsteadily with the umbrella at hand. “What are
you talking about?” the boy replied angrily. He started to walk closer to me. “You take
one more step and I’ll hit you.” “With
what? That umbrella?” He chortled, “I have abs and tons of muscle. You couldn’t
hurt me.” “So you
think you’re Mr. Big-shot? You’re not the only one with abs and muscle, Fabio.
I have them too,” I gave an I’m-better-than-you-look to all five of them, “So
why don’t you turn around and leave before you get hurt?” “Look,
this is my house,” the boy in the front sounded annoyed, “Now what’s your
excuse?” I stared
at the one that said he lived here. “Hahahahahahaha…no. Mrs. Galasso didn’t say
she had a son.” “My mom
is Mrs. Galasso, and I guess she just forgot to mention me,” the boy fought
with me. He pointed to a picture of himself that was standing on the piano. I
dropped the umbrella and blushed a little. Okay fine, I blushed really heard. “Yeah,
now you know. You’re the new house-sitter?” He questioned calmly, “How old are
you?” “Yeah,
I’m fifteen. Sorry about that,” I suddenly realized that two of the boys were
from the picture in the magazine rack. “S’ok.
I’m fifteen, too. The name’s Frankie,” the boy offered. “Robyn,”
I replied, “You live around here? How come you don’t go to my school?” I gave a
confused look. “He
goes to an all boys school,” another boy said, “I’m Chris.” He had blonde,
spiked hair. “I’m
Greg,” the tall boy with bleached hair introduced himself, “The nitwit over
there is Jesse. The other is Matt.” “Hey!”
Jesse hated being the youngest of all of them, let alone the “nitwit” of the
group. “Yeah
well we don’t need you here anymore. I’m here so you can leave now,” Frankie
smiled. He opened the front door for me. I grabbed my book bag and walked out
the door. What else was I supposed to do? When he closed the door after me, I
realized something. I angrily rang the doorbell again. “How
many times do I have to tell you? I’m here, so we don’t need you anymore. You
can go home now. I can take care of my own house,” Frankie rolled his eyes at
me as he opened the door. “I’m
not leaving until I get my money,” I crossed my arms and entered his house
again. I stood still as Frankie gave me a funny look. “Okay,
well I’m broke. You can stay until my parents get home,” Frankie frowned. Frankie,
Jesse, Chris, Matt, and Greg all wandered into the family room and plopped
themselves sloppily on the couch. They all looked tired and worn out. I just
stood in the same spot, not knowing what to do. Frankie came over to me again
and started laughed. “You
don’t have to stand there all night. Get your lazy butt up and watch some TV,”
Frankie offered me his hand. I eyed him and took his hand. He wasn’t as tough
as he seemed. In fact, he wasn’t tough at all. “Ohhhhh!
I sense some lovers walking in,” Matt eyed Frankie and me. Everyone noticed we
were holding hands. Jesse threw a pillow at Frankie. “Very
funny, Jesse, you’re just mad because you can’t find a girl-” Frankie started
to say. “Zip
it! Z-z-z-z-ip!” Jesse retorted. Frankie let go of my hand and dropped down on
the couch next to Greg. “You
guys look really dead,” I had to say. “Oh
that’s because we just came back from-” Frankie started. “Shooting
hoops,” Chris finished. I knew something was fishy at that moment, but I didn’t
want to say anything. “Oh,
so what are you guys? Like best friends?” I questioned and sat myself next to
Chris. “Yeah,
if you say so,” Greg replied, “Chris and Frankie are best buds. But we don’t
live ‘round here.” “Yeah,
I live in Westchester and Greg lives in Long Island,” Jesse butted in. “Shhhhhh!
Guys, this is the good part of the movie!” Matt exclaimed. I turned to the TV
and noticed that What Lies Beneath was playing. “Robyn?
We’re back,” I suddenly heard Mrs. Galasso shout from the foyer. I paced myself
over to Mr. and Mrs. Galasso. It was already 11:00 PM. “Oh
Robyn…I’m sorry I forgot to tell you about our son. I was just so caught up in
my birthday dinner. You know how it is with birthday jitters. I hope it wasn’t
much trouble when him and his friends came home tonight,” Mrs. Galasso said
while noticing that Frankie was home. I hid my laughter inside of me. “It was
nothing!” I replied easily. Mr.
Galasso pulled a $50 bill out of his wallet and handed it to me. I gasped. My
first night at work and already $50? “Isn’t
$50 an awful lot?” I tried to be polite. In the inside, I was really anxious to
get a hold of that money! “You
house-sat for 5 hours. $10 an hour. Thank you,” Mr. Galasso replied. “No
problem. If you need me again, just call me,” I replied cheerfully. “Actually,
is this Sunday okay for you? I know we’re asking a lot, but we have a business
party to go to and Frankie has rehearsal,” Mr. Galasso requested. I wondered
what he meant by rehearsal, but I didn’t mind earning $50 more, so I agreed.
Before I stepped outside the house, Frankie came up to me and handed me my book
bag. “See you
on Sunday,” he said softly. I turned around and gave him a suspicious smile. I
raised my eyebrow and turned back around to leave. He was so adorably cute! Once
I got home, I decided to call Morgan and tell her about my house-sitting
experience. She would be really excited for me. - - - - -Frankie- - - - - After
Robyn left, I walked back over to where my buds were watching TV. Robyn was an
interesting girl. She didn’t seem conceited and she worked out a lot. That was
the first thing on my list that I liked about girls. I like girls who sweat and
work out. I hate girls that walk around the mall all day and act like ditzes. “Frankie,
are you sure about this one? I mean the last girl you liked was…eh! She
was…bad,” Chris laughed. “Whoever
said I liked Robyn?” I tried to avoid the subject. “Oh
come on! Like we couldn’t see right passed your hollow head,” Matt teased. “Okay,
so what if I do like her? It’s not like we’re gonna go out. We hardly know each
other. You know I wouldn’t ask out a stranger I just met,” I explained. “Keep
thinking that, pal,” Jesse shook his head at me. - - - - -Robyn- - - - - Me: Morgan! AHHHH!!!!! Morgan: You’re screaming. Am I
supposed to send a search party now? Me: No seriously, Morgan! You know
how I was house-sitting? Morgan: No, I don’t remember.
Refresh my memory? Me: MORGAN! I’m serious! Well, the
lady had a son, and well I met him. Morgan: Now THIS is a good way to
refresh my memory. Go on; tell me more. Me: Yeah, so we talked. He had a
bunch of friends over. His name is Frankie. Morgan: Wait. Is he hot? Cuz if
he’s not- Me: Yes he is! I have a picture of
him. I took it out of his magazine rack. Morgan: Hahaha! You’re an idiot.
Well you gotta show me tomorrow. Me: I will. Frankie held my hand
and said he couldn’t wait until I house-sat again! Morgan: Robyn… Me: What? Morgan: He’s going fast. Remember
what happened with Josh? Me: Yeah, I know. But- Morgan: But he was the hottest guy
in school. This Frankie guy sounds like another Josh. Me (sighed): No he doesn’t. He’s
better. Morgan: Sure, Robyn. Just think
about it, okay? I’ll see you tomorrow. Me: He’s different! You’ll see! Click Click To
tell you the truth, I didn’t know if Frankie was different than Josh. Josh
broke my heart intensely. Frankie seemed like a good guy. He went to an all
boy’s school, so he probably didn’t break a girl’s heart before. All that I
knew then was that I wanted to go out with Frankie. I knew that there was a
risk of getting my heart broken, but that chance was worth taking. Wasn’t it? |
