Diary of a Dieter:

Sheryll’s Juice Fasting Journey

Week 8

Day 50

Weight loss: None

Purified water with lime consumed:  4 cups

Purified water consumed: 6 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, apple

·         Apple, grape

Exercise: None, other than moving boxes and other heavy items

Other: 4T flax oil; 1T coconut oil

We finally got a truck, but not until close to 1pm.  The rental place sent us to pick it up at a location that was closed on Sundays.  They admitted to their error and sent us to another location.  We were to have it at 8am!  We didn’t get to our new place until 9:30pm.  Thankfully, my brother-in-law, my nephew, and two others from their church were able to help; they left after midnight.  I have to admit I was getting cranky; who wouldn’t, after that mess?  I’m glad I was able to still have my juice and my water.  I’m well over due for an enema, though; this is the third day without one.  I don’t even know where (or when) I will find the enema kit.

Sorry; right now all I can think of is going to bed.  It’s after 3 in the morning, and the place looks like a bomb hit it.  Welcome home!

Day 51

Weight loss: 2 pounds

Purified water with lime consumed:  8 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, apple

·         Cabbage, parsnip, cucumber, broccoli, red pepper, celery, 3 garlic cloves

Exercise: None

Other: 4T flax oil; 1T coconut oil; warm-water enema

That veggie juice just about made me throw up huge!  I took one sip and I thought I was going to die.  It took me another minute before I could have more of it.  I think when I have a drink that doesn’t have carrots (I must get carrots TODAY!) but does have cabbage I should have another kind of juice beforehand.  I really want to be kind to my stomach.

Gary and I managed to get the kitchen and living room more or less sorted.  Laundry was done, as well.  The place started to look like home by the end of the day.  Gary was so very tired in the afternoon he went to sleep for a bit.

The only annoyance was that my asthma returned.  Gary figures it is due to the newness of the carpets and tile, as well as the adhesives, glues and compounds that are used in new home construction.  Niiiiiice.  Hopefully it will go away in a couple of days.  Maybe it has come back because I haven’t done an enema in three days (missing it today would make it four days).  I ended up getting a new enema kit since I haven’t come across the old one and did what I had to do around that.  Ohhhhh, what a feeling!  All I can say is it needed to be done!  One way or another, you have to do the do DAILY!

Day 52

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lime consumed:  10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, beet, apple

·         Carrot, broccoli, green pepper

·         Apple

Exercise: Two 20-minute walks

Other: 4T flax oil; 1T coconut oil; warm-water enema

The carrot, beet and apple juice I bought this morning made me break out – my neck got very itchy and it drove me crazy for a good hour.  Maybe the beets the juice place used weren’t washed very well.

I’m energetic and well rested today!  Only time will tell how I will continue to manage the four-hour, 40-minute round-trip commute.  All I know is I will have to make the juices and have my shower the night before; otherwise, I will miss the 5:50am bus.  It would also help if we had a working fridge inside the house!  I didn’t feel like going out there to get anything so I didn’t bother to make any juice.

Day 53

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lime consumed:  10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, celery, green pepper, parsley

·         Apple

Exercise: 20-minute walk

Other: 4T flax oil; 1T coconut oil; warm-water enema

I splurged a wee bit and bought a shirt and pants in anticipation of my 100-pound weight loss (tomorrow?)  After all, I only have to lose one more pound.  It took me longer than normal to make my decision; it’s been so long since I have worn a regular size 15 (bottoms) that I wanted to make sure of the fit before buying.  I was nervous, but excited.

I can’t wait until we get the new fridge that actually works!  It’s crazy that we have to go to the garage to get food from the fridge in the garage.  I really don’t feel like going out there to get anything; it’s not a far walk but it’s too cold for me to even bother.  Water with lime will just have to do.

Day 54

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lime consumed:  8 cups

Juices:

·         Apple, pear

·         Carrot, celery, parsnip, parsley, Swiss chard, endive, red pepper, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: 20-minute walk

Other: B&P shake; 4T flax oil; 1T coconut oil; warm-water enema

WOO HOO!  I have officially lost 100 pounds!  79 of those pounds I can attribute to juice fasting.  This round, I have lost 50 pounds, thus achieving one of my goals I had set for myself at the start of this adventure.  To celebrate this event, I wore the outfit I bought yesterday, which generated favourable reactions from my co-workers and Gary.  Gary affectionately calls me “Skinny Minnie”, though I never will be skinny; the endearment is cute, though.  He can’t believe how healthy I look, and it transcends the weight loss.

Gary and I picked up some fruits and veggies, now that the new fridge has been delivered.  It was a pain to go out to the garage (not accessible from inside the house) to get what I needed from the fridge our landlord provided for the interim.  I was out of carrots and celery and it was driving me crazy that I was limited in the juice I could make.  Carrots, in my opinion, are essential for a great veggie juice.  Their sweetness cuts the heavy alkalinity and “green” taste of the green vegetables.

Tonight is the first night I have made all of my juices for work since we moved on Sunday.  Success!

Day 55

Weight GAIN: 1 pound

Purified water with lime consumed:  10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, apple (2 servings)

·         Apple

·         Carrot, parsnip, celery, Swiss chard, broccoli, red pepper, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: 20-minute walk

Other: 5T flax oil; 1T coconut oil; warm-water enema

In my case, you lose some, you gain some.  Yesterday, I wasn’t going pee that often, given the amount of fluids I drink in the day.  It’s definitely water retention.  It will pass.

Remember the mood swings I had periodically in the first 30 to 40 days?  They are now gone, for the most part.  It possibly had to do with all the events that were going on at the same time: the pressure of the whole moving process, leaving my hometown for the first time in 40+ years, the juice fasting, the deep cleansing my system was doing as a result, missing Gary.  The move is complete, I can call my mom whenever I like, the juice fasting is five days away from being complete, the deep cleansing is over, and Gary and I see each other daily again.

Someone asked me today if I was going to have reconstructive surgery after the fasting.  I told her that I never thought of it.  Afterward, I reflected that it wouldn’t be necessary.  I can live with my little belly; I’ve always had that, even as a kid.  In the mirror, it does look a bit wrinkly, though, like a lot of cellulite.  I took a closer look tonight: the “wrinkles” are actually stretch marks.  I can live with those, too.  It will be tankinis for me; I’ve never worn a regular bikini ever in life, nor can I imagine wearing one.

Not now, anyway…

I have heard of people who have had such surgery to remove excess skin, particularly when they have embarked on an accelerated weight-loss program.  Keeping clean with the extra folds or hanging skin can be challenging; neglect can cause a number of irritations and odours.  My research revealed that juice fasting, because it doesn’t rob one’s body of nutrients, helps to repair all systems, including the skin (the body’s largest organ, by the way).  I don’t have the excess skin issue.  My opinion: If one understands how their bodies work, there will be no need for surgery of any kind related to this or weight loss, in general.  My goal is to achieve optimum health and wellness by understanding how my body works and accepting who I am at any given moment.

Day 56

Weight loss: 3 pounds

Purified water with lime consumed:  8 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, apple

·         Carrot, parsnip, celery, Swiss chard, red pepper, hot Jamaican pepper, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: Two 20-minute walks

Other: B&P shake; 4T flax oil; 1T coconut oil; warm-water enema

I knew it was water retention.  It couldn’t be anything else.

I walked to the nearest grocery store (It seems that the nearest one is always the most expensive!), which was a 20-minute walk from home.  It was also handy that the hairstylist, pet store and dollar store were in the same complex, so I did what I had to do in each of those places, as well.  The challenge was carrying four heavy grocery bags home in the heat.  Niiiiiiice.  Great exercise but I must get a two-wheel shopping cart!

What was also great exercise was unpacking and organizing the master bedroom and one of the spare rooms.  I was so very tired afterwards.  Going out to do my errands revived me.  I know I am not to do too much while juice fasting, but this had to be done!

Gary had a very trying day at work, so to cheer him up I showed him the finished master bedroom; he couldn’t find the words to express how pleased he was with the results.  He had not eaten anything but one pear all day, so I treated him to a meal at a restaurant that serves breakfast all day.  I had bottled water with lemon and found it fascinating that a glass of ice cubes (made with unfiltered water) was brought with it.  Kind of defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?  Gary doesn’t know how I can watch him eat.  I realize it isn’t about not being hungry for anything at that moment, but being with someone close to me who truly appreciates good food.
