Diary of a Dieter:

Sheryll’s Juice Fasting Journey

Week 6

Day 36

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Watermelon

·         Carrot, celery, green pepper, parsnip, spinach, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: None

Other: Warm-water enema; coffee enema

This was another day of rest for me.  I did manage to vacuum and roll up all but one area rug.  Now it really looks like we’re moving!  Now the major work can begin.  I can feel that energy levels are starting to return to normal.  I’m sure I will manage very well at work tomorrow.

Day 37

Weight loss: None

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Apple

·         Carrot, parsnip, beet, green pepper, spinach, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: None

Other: Warm-water enema

You know when you have one of those days when you are at work and don’t feel like doing anything?  Today is such a day for me.  Wow; I can’t get into the tasks at hand at all!  My energy is good, as is my mood; however, I just am unable to concentrate.  I think I know why; it’s just a vague idea at the moment.  It will become clearer over time.

Day 38

Weight GAIN: 1 pound

Purified water with lemon consumed: 8 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, celery, red pepper

Exercise: 30-minute walk

Other: B&P shake; warm-water enema

Weight gain again!  Not much sleep last night, which would explain that, in part.  Man, something must be done about that!  I also didn’t make time to prepare my Mason-jar meals, which also annoyed me.  Thank goodness for places like Freshly Squeezed and Booster Juice; otherwise I would have to buy bottled juices, which are devoid of enzymes and many nutrients.  I would rather go without and water fast until I get home.

When I did my cleanse the first time, I went to a vegetarian restaurant in my building for apple or carrot juice.  One day I mixed the two, as I do at home.  This mix was HORRIBLE!  The restaurant uses a juicer to make the juices; then the liquids are served out of open pitchers and sit on ice for hours.  The air quickly robs the juices of all enzymes and nutrients and they have an off-putting taste.  Needless to say, I won’t go there for my juices.

I did manage to make my juices for tomorrow.  Woo hoo!  Progress, not perfection!

Day 39

Weight loss: 2 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 8 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, apple, ginger

·         Carrot, celery, green pepper

·         Apple

·         Carrot, parsnip, parsley, celery, Swiss chard, endive, red pepper, jalapeno pepper, 3 garlic cloves

Exercise: Two 20-minute walks

Other: 2T flax oil; warm-water enema

I have more energy today and my spirits are good, considering I dozed intermittently last night on the couch.  I’ll actually sleep in my bed tonight, I promise!

It’s amazing what the sun can do to improve one’s mood; it’s been very overcast for many days.  I managed to get out of the office for a bit and actually do some window shopping.  What a great feeling to be able to walk into a nice store (not part of a chain) and look for regular-sized clothing that happens to be well made AND is on sale!  I didn’t buy anything; I’ll wait another month or so.

I wish this eczema would just go away!  It flares up periodically, which is better than before, when I continuously scratched.  Right now, my neck is so incredibly itchy and it’s driving me CRAZY!  I may have to break down tonight and put on some medicated cream I got from my dermatologist.  I’m less than enthusiastic about using that since my preference is to not use any pharmaceuticals at all.

***

I just did some research on the Internet that has revealed that I really should be taking my omega-3 fats during this cleanse.  Oils like flax oil should alleviate the skin irritations.  It will also help with my dry hair, which has been lifeless and breaking (at times, coming out at the roots).  I used some flax oil in my veggie juice this evening; I’ll keep you posted on the results.

Day 40

Weight loss: 2 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, apple

·         Apple, pear, grape

·         Carrot, parsnip, parsley, endive, cucumber, red pepper, celery, jalapeno pepper, 3 garlic cloves

Exercise: None

Other: Lemon tea; 4T flax oil; 1T coconut oil; warm-water enema

I got close to five hours’ sleep last night, and believe it or not, I feel really good this morning!

The flax oil, I think, is starting to do its job.  My neck was still very itchy; it will take a couple of days, I figure, before the skin irritations start to clear up.  My hair does feel a bit softer and has more shine.  I’m just glad I didn’t decide to use the medicated cream last night.

Day 41

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, apple, ginger

·         Apple

·         Carrot, parsnip, celery, endive, Swiss chard, spinach, cucumber, jalapeno pepper, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: Push-ups, 20-minute walk

Other: B&P shake; 4T flax oil; 1T coconut oil; warm-water enema

Again, I feel great!  It’s so nice to be rested and energetic.  The sun is shining; it’s warming up; I’m glad to be connected to life again.

It’s a challenging thing to deal with major events that have the potential to elevate one’s stress levels, such as moving, weddings, births, and deaths.  Try managing a couple of those while juice fasting.  Niiiiiiice.  That’s been my world for the past seven weeks.

The hay fever I used to have is gone.  Flowers are in bloom and other plants are starting to make their appearance, yet I’m not congested and my eyes are not itchy and watery.  I think the congestion is the big thing for me.  There were many nights last year when I would wake myself up because I was so stuffed up.  Now there is the odd sneeze and I have to blow my nose on the occasional morning.  What an improvement!

I’ve dropped another size; in another two weeks I will be shopping exclusively in regular-size stores.  I already have to do this for shirts.

A co-worker commented on how good I look and was very interested in sitting down with me to go over the details of the cleanse.  She may take this on, herself.

Gary enjoyed the dinner I made for him: lobster with tomatoes and spinach, lightly seasoned and served with Chinese noodles.  He doesn’t know how I can do all this cooking and not have any.  I have to admit it smelled really good in the apartment; the aroma from garlic, spices and sesame oil almost drove me crazy.  It was at that time I started to prepare my garlic-laced veggie juice.

For the first time in a couple of years, I did 10 standard push-ups.  The form may not have been perfect, but I did it!

Day 42

Weight loss:  None

Purified water consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, sweet potato

·         Spinach, apple

·         Carrot, parsnip, celery, endive, Swiss chard, romaine lettuce, jalapeno pepper, 3 garlic cloves

Exercise: Push-ups; 1-hour walk

Other: 4T flax oil; 1T coconut oil

Today was productive and I had much energy.  My friend from Toronto helped me pack up the rest of the things in the apartment this morning.  In the late afternoon I went to the health food store to get more lemons (looking green and getting more expensive) and carrots, totally forgetting the green peppers.  I’ll pick some up on Monday.
