Diary of a Dieter:

Sheryll’s Juice Fasting Journey

Week 4

Day 22

Weight loss: 2 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 8 cups

Juices: None

Other: Warm-water enema; coffee enema

I told Gary about our new home; I thought he was upset with my choice, so due to that anxiety, I didn’t feel like making any juices.

Bad move.

I started to get some interesting headaches.  I’m surprised I did the enemas at all!  My bedtime was quite late, as well.

Day 23

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot and apple

·         Strawberry, pineapple and kiwi

·         Carrot, green pepper, parsnip, celery, cabbage, Swiss chard, parsley, 3 garlic cloves

Exercise: 30-minute walk

Other: B&P shake; warm-water enema

I felt so very gross this morning.  The nausea was almost intolerable; I just about threw up.  What I would have vomited, I have no clue, given that I had nothing but water yesterday.  I was prepared to go in to work but then the dizziness and blackouts started.  That was all I needed to call in sick.  Water fasting for one day is alright, but two days is definitely too much for my system to handle.  For me to function normally, I have to have nourishment.  The nausea, dizziness and blackouts stopped when I had my carrot and apple juice mid-morning.  I slept for three hours this afternoon; after the morning’s ordeal I really needed the rest.  The garlic-laced juice was awesome, as was the fruit juice.

What did I learn from this weekend?  An adage I learned years ago when I attended Overeaters’ Anonymous is appropriate here: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

I will have a B&P shake every other day or every third day.  It’s great for intestinal cleanup but this stuff will turn into an oatmeal-like mixture if the psyllium stays too long in the water.  It’s no wonder there wasn’t any weight loss for two days running last week.

I managed to not only make my juices for tomorrow, but I also cooked some chicken breasts for Gary (he’ll be home in two days).  I hope it tastes good; it smelled awesome when it was baking.  It was very tempting to taste it, too.  The recipe?  Cola, ketchup, garlic, ginger, cayenne pepper, chilli powder, salt, pepper.   I hope I didn’t use too much salt.  I’ll cook some rice to go with it either tomorrow or Thursday.

I have one more jar of juice to make, and off to bed I go.

Day 24

Weight loss: none

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Apple and grape

·         Carrot, apple, ginger

·         Carrot and sweet potato

·         Carrot, lettuce, parsnip, green pepper, red chard, celery, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: None

Other: Warm-water enema

Well, I feel better today, though the nausea came and went all day.  Trust me; I won’t do two days straight of purified water and lemon again.  That is SO hard on the system.

A good friend at work took a picture of me using his cell phone so he could do a picture match-up to my number in his directory.  I was stunned at the way I looked in the photo when he showed it to me; I am very unrecognizable.  With my glasses on, I look very much like my dad.  My face is much thinner now.

I really look forward to having the garlic-laced veggie juice in the evening.  This one was good; I can’t believe I forgot the parsley.  Parsley seems to cut the very green taste of the vegetables so it is not that strong.

I’ll clean out the juicer, make my “Mason jar meals” for tomorrow, and then I’ll go to bed.

Day 25

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, apple, ginger

·         Apple

·         Organic acai juice

Exercise: none

Other: Warm-water enema

I fell asleep last night on the couch before I could make my juices, so I didn’t take any to work.  On top of that, I forgot to take along my credit and debit cards.  I ended up borrowing some money so I could buy my juices.  My intent was to buy my veggie juice on the way home from work, but the place that I have been going to lately shuts down their juicer 30 minutes before closing.  I bought acai juice instead, which was a new taste sensation for me.  It had evaporated cane juice and “natural flavours” along with the South American fruit puree.  Very nice, though it wasn’t what I was after.

I am definitely feeling much better than I did yesterday.  Many people at work are noticing my weight loss, including students, and they want to know what I am doing.  I don’t hesitate to tell them.

I came home a little later than usual, did my enema, cleaned up the kitchen, made my juices for tomorrow, and had the last of my water and lemon for the day.

It’s just after midnight, and Gary has arrived – Woo hoo!

Day 26

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Apple and grape

·         Carrot, apple, ginger

·         Carrot and sweet potato

·         Carrot, lettuce, parsnip, green pepper, red chard, celery, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: None

Other: Warm-water enema

Every day is getting better, though I have to admit that the strain of my geographical separation from Gary is getting to me.  I’m glad he’s home right now and that we will have tomorrow to spend together before heads back up north.  Just think that at one time I would have been gorging on junk food and bread over the move and my seeing Gary only two nights a week.  I believe my coping skills are getting even stronger.  Granted, I have my off days, like everyone else.  I just have to stay focused on my health.  Regardless of what happens in my life, I have to take care of myself.

I always enjoy the garlic-laced veggie juices – so tasty and full of parsnips!

Day 27

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot and apple

·         Strawberry and grape

·         Carrot, lettuce, spring onion, green pepper, celery, broccoli, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: None

Other: Warm-water enema

Gary and I had a nice visit with Mom and my youngest sister; Gary hasn’t seen them in over three months.  We brought some Timbits, coffee and juice.  Don’t worry; I brought my Mason-jar meals.  Mom and Gary tried my strawberry and grape juice – they loved it!  Mom would really like to have a juicer now.

I made Gary’s lunch and dinner, both of which included a chicken sandwich (I used the chicken breast I had prepared four days ago); he loved it.  He again felt bad about eating in front of me.  I told him it doesn’t bother me since I don’t feel hunger much these days.  The meals did look good, though.

I did some research on the Internet and found there are a couple of health-food stores not too far from where we will be living, as well as a bakery that produces nothing but gluten-free goodies.  They even have gluten-free pizza dough!  Woo hoo!  I’ll have to find some really good white-pizza recipes that don’t require cheese.  Bread, gluten-free or not, is something I am going to continue to stay away from since I have the tendency to consume copious amounts of it at one time.  Rice, potatoes, and Nori seaweed are great alternatives that won’t cause any health concerns for me.

Why do I do this to myself?  I’ve got to think about something else!

It looks like it’s… ENEMA TIME!

Day 28

Weight loss: 2 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 8.5 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, apple, ginger

·         Apple

·         Carrot, sweet potato, celery, green pepper, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: None

Other: Warm-water enema

I spent two hours trying on more of my clothes.  All items that I had up to 11 years ago, with the exception of my bridesmaid dress that I wore at my younger sister’s wedding, can be reintroduced into my wardrobe.  Woo hoo!  I can gladly say that I am able to not only get into the bridesmaid dress, but I can now zip it right up!  This is quite an accomplishment.  Two weeks ago, I could only zip it up halfway.  What a difference 18 pounds makes!  More clothes had to be thrown out; including the size 18 jeans I wore so proudly for well over a year. (Because they were stretchy jeans, I wore them from the time I went to Vegas, through the subsequent weight gain, to beyond when I did the first cleanse.  That is wonder material!  Let me never have to be so thankful for it again!)

Mom and my younger sister really liked my garlic-laced and apple juices.  Mom has now decided that when she gets the juicer, she will do a short cleanse.  I suggested that in the meantime, since she loves veggies, she can start a raw-food diet and have lots of salad and fresh fruits.  She agreed.  Maybe she’ll start next week.

I think my brother-in-law believes this is just another diet for me.  Only time will test that theory.  I know this is a total lifestyle change and it doesn’t matter what others think of my methods.   I can’t stress enough that my life depends on this change.
