Diary of a Dieter:

Sheryll’s Juice Fasting Journey

Week 3

Day 15

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot and apple

·         Cucumber and apple

·         Spinach and apple

·         Cabbage, cucumber, celery, green pepper, spring onion

·         Carrot, red pepper, lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, parsnip, bean sprouts, parsley, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: 10 minutes on rebounder, 30-minute walk

Other: B&P shake; coffee enema

Last night I dreamt about ordering sushi at a Burlington restaurant with Gary’s oldest daughter and someone I knew in high school but have not spoken to in six years.  Why do I have to have dreams about my favourite food?  I woke up all annoyed because I can’t have anything to eat.

A very productive day!  Though I didn’t get to go clothes shopping like I intended, I got my hair cut.  What a difference a new hairstyle makes!  It really isn’t much different than what I’ve had in the past, but it does suit the now-thinner shape of my face.  It’s been some time since I’ve felt so good about my hair!

I tried on the bridesmaid dress I wore at my younger sister’s wedding over 10 years ago.  It goes on (very snugly) and I can zip it part way up the back.  Now that’s progress!

I have designated Sundays as Coffee Enema Days.  The 15 minutes I have to retain the fluid is spent watching a bit of TV.  I’m nice and comfortable on the couch, and the time goes by very quickly.  I remember when I did my first coffee enema; I could barely hold it for 10 minutes.  Now I find the warm-water much more challenging to retain for the required five minutes than retaining the coffee.

The veggie juice with the garlic really needed the celery today.  It was just a bit too strong for my taste without it.

Day 16

Weight GAIN: 2 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 2 cups

Purified water consumed: 8 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, celery and apple

·         Apple and grape

·         Spinach and apple

·         Spinach, Swiss chard, carrot, lettuce, parsnip, celery, parsley, green pepper, cucumber, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: 20-minute walk

Other: B&P shake; warm-water enema

I can’t believe I gained two pounds!  It just doesn’t make sense.  It isn’t even as if I had cheated!  The only explanation I can come up with is I didn’t get enough sleep.  I had 4 hours’ sleep, getting up twice to go to the bathroom.  I’m going to bed at 11:30; let’s see if that makes a difference.  Lately I haven’t been getting enough rest and I know that this contributes to weight gain.  Should it happen, though, when I’m only consuming liquids?

I changed my evening routine a bit.  As soon as I get home from work, I make my big veggie juice.  After I make my juice for tomorrow I prepare to do my enema.  Just before going to bed I have my last glasses of water.  Let’s see if this schedule will help me get to bed earlier.  It did for tonight.

Day 17

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot and apple

·         Grape, pineapple and kiwi

·         Spinach and apple

·         Carrot, parsnip, lettuce, cabbage, orange pepper, cucumber, celery, parsley, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: Two 20-minute walks

Other: B&P shake; warm-water enema

Well, I lost the two pounds I gained.  Not that I was overly concerned.  Maybe it was a cell memory from that weight at another time in my life.  Who knows?

It felt good to lose the bulk of a heavy winter coat today; the weather cooperated and was warm.  The walks were that much more enjoyable as a result.  There is so much of a difference between doing an aerobic activity outside and using exercise equipment inside.

So far, the new routine is working well.  It’s 11pm and I’m ready for bed.

Day 18

Weight loss: none

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot and apple

·         Carrot and sweet potato

·         Apple

·         Carrot, parsnip, spinach, lettuce, cucumber, orange pepper, Swiss chard, parsley, 2 garlic cloves

Exercise: 20-minute walk

Other: B&P shake; warm-water enema

Too bad I haven’t lost any more weight.  I have to remember, though, that doing a juice fast usually results in an average weight loss of one pound a day.  Since I have lost 22 pounds in 17 days, I guess my system has to get used to this new weight.  This way, there won’t be extra skin flapping about.

My weight loss has become very noticeable by many of my work colleagues.  They are curious about juice fasting and are amazed at my energy levels, considering that I am not eating solid foods.  I explain that the weight loss is a by-product of the process; the goal is optimum health and the opportunity for my body to heal itself.  Some people understand the process.  Others think I’m crazy.  Last time I did this cleanse I kept quiet about what I was doing.  I now realize it doesn’t serve any purpose to keep this great information to myself.  If people really want to know the details of juice fasting, I will happily tell them.

It’s now time to do the enema.  Then I’ll go to bed; I’m quite tired.

Day 19

Weight loss: none

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot and apple

·         Carrot and spinach

·         Apple and grape

Exercise: 20-minute walk

Other: B&P shake; laxative herbal tea

This was a pretty good day.  I’m rested and I have my Mason jar meals.  Unfortunately, I didn’t have time (due to some procrastination) to have my veggie juice or make my juices for tomorrow.  I’ll get up earlier than normal to make them.

Day 20

Weight loss: 1 pound

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot, celery, spinach, parsley (“Green Hornet”)

·         Carrot, apple, ginger (“Ginger Hammer”)

·         Apple

Exercise: Two 20-minute walks

Other: Warm-water enema

My energy level is very good, despite not getting up early to make my juices for the day.  I ended up buying my juices at Booster Juice (I didn’t feel like making my way to Freshly Squeezed – the main mall is just crazy busy after 3pm and I didn’t have the patience for it today) to get my fill of goodness.  No matter; I’m just excited that I get to drive my luxury car rental tomorrow in search of our new home.

Day 21

Weight loss: 2 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Fruit drink

Other: Warm-water enema

It was my intention to make some juices today.  After picking up the rental car, I noticed that time was ticking away and I had to get on the road.  I was making a trip to a city in the greater Toronto area to take a look at some available houses.   After finding our new place, I visited one of Gary’s daughters (that’s where I had the fruit drink, though I don’t know what made me ask for it – water would have been just fine), then made my way to my mom’s place.  The trips themselves were good; having my Mason-jar meals would have made them amazing.
