Diary of a Dieter:

Sheryll’s Juice Fasting Journey

Week 1

Day 1

Weight: 237 pounds

I have never been so glad to be back in Canada in my life!  I have just returned from a business trip to San Francisco.  Figures that I would choose today to start the cleanse.  Daylight Savings Time started and I crossed three time zones.  The day was great!  There were no delays at either airport, and I got lots of sleep on the plane.

I had figured that I would be having nothing but spring water today. (I didn’t come across any juice bars at the airport.)  So far I have had 10 cups of water.  I added the juice of an organic lemon to four of those cups.  I had to get up twice during the flight to go pee, again in Toronto before claiming my baggage, and a fourth time at the commuter bus terminal.  I know I will have to go again once I hit Hamilton, and this is before I leave that station!  I will have two more cups of filtered water before going to bed.

Between the travel and sleeping on the plane, there hasn’t been time to think about not eating.  Let’s hope tomorrow is like that!

Day 2

Weight loss: 2 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Apple and grape

·         Celery, carrots, parsnips, green pepper, red pepper, 2 small cucumbers, romaine lettuce, 3 cloves of garlic

I didn’t get a chance to make my morning carrot-and-apple juice before going in to work.  I slept through the alarm and had to make a mad dash out the door.  I managed to take with me the apple-and-grape juice in a Mason jar. (It doesn’t allow any air into the jar if it is filled right up, so it preserves all nutrients and enzymes for up to 24 hours.)  Toward the end of the day, I started to get quite the headache, partly because I’m not eating anything, but mostly because my system is starting to dump the accumulation of toxins.  I’m also getting a wee bit of acne as further evidence of this toxin purge.  It must be time for…

An enema!

There were many times today I felt hungry.  That’s when I filled up with water and lemon. (It has to be filtered or spring water; straight tap water still has stuff in it and consuming it defeats the purpose of a cleanse.)

Why lemons?  Lemons and limes have lots of calcium.  It’s amazing how strong and white my nails are!

I was also getting a bit cranky, probably because I’m overtired and needed some nourishment.  The veggie juice helped lots!  The garlic in it was so nice.  Trust me; no self-respecting parasite will want to stay in my system after that drink! (Gary couldn’t stand it at first, either, when I did the cleanse last time.  Unlike the parasites, fortunately, he got used to it!)

I think it’s time to go pee for the umpteenth time today and get some sleep.

Day 3

Weight loss: 2 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Apple and grape

·         Celery, carrot, parsnip, cucumber, romaine lettuce, green pepper, parsley, 2 cloves of garlic

·         Apple and spinach

Tea: Herbal blueberry; laxative herbal tea

My knee started acting up again.  In early 2005, I was walking from my office building to the car with Gary, my right leg gave way and I experienced excruciating pain at the knee.  Every few steps this would happen.  I went to my doctor and he prescribed anti-inflammatory pills and painkillers.  After a week it went away and apparently it moved to the left knee.  Weird.  This had everything to do with my weight, which was in the 280s at the time.

So why is this pain (a fraction of the past intensity) appearing now?

The body has a great memory for trauma, skin eruptions, aches and pains, and childhood ailments.  My eczema resurfaced last time I did the cleanse and it never totally went away.  Now it’s my knee.  It will pass, just like the heel spur I developed last week.  It’s now gone.  I’m glad for that.  Most orthopaedic shoes are so not fashionable to wear!

Thanks to last night’s coffee enema, I felt great today: full of energy and very alert.  No headaches or lethargy.  My hunger came and went throughout the day, so I drank some water or made a cup of blueberry tea to get rid of that feeling.

I’m glad I remembered to take the laxative herbal tea tonight.  I’ll try to do that every other day and enemas on the alternate days.  Gotta keep on going, if you know what I mean…  Just because I’m not eating solid foods doesn’t mean there’s nothing in me to come out.

Now it’s time for my last two cups of H2O with lemon, and off to bed I go!

Day 4

Weight loss: 3 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 8 cups

Juices:

·         Carrot and apple

·         Apple

·         Apple and spinach

Tea: Ginger

Talk about an energy shift!  It’s the polar opposite of yesterday.  I felt miserable, lethargic, tired, and unsociable.  I know I didn’t have enough veggies.  Veggie juices fill me up and give me energy.  I have to plan better and get up earlier for work so I’m not rushing around and missing out on the essentials for my health.  I did have a coffee enema when I got home, which made me feel a bit better.

I must get more sleep!  This is the only way my body will get a chance to heal itself.

Day 5

Weight loss: 3 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Apple and cranberry

·         Carrot and apple

·         2 small cucumbers, celery, parsnip, radishes, red pepper, alfalfa sprouts, parsley, 2 garlic cloves

Tea: Laxative herbal tea

I definitely felt better than I did yesterday, though I still am very tired.  I’m going to bed after this.  I have to say it was nice to get home before 7pm!

It was so cold in the office today, but that is expected because there isn’t the solid food to digest that would create additional activity and warmth in the body.  I had my apple-and-cranberry juice at work, and drank not enough water while there.  I made up for it once I got home.

My clothes are getting roomier.  Losing 10 pounds in four days will do that!  It’s neat to be able to pull on my jeans without having to unzip and unbutton them.  I am extremely pleased about the weight loss so far.

I don’t know what made me have a teaspoonful of raw honey just now, though.

Anyway, it’s time for my tea, then bedtime.  All in all, a good day.

Day 6

Weight loss: none

Purified water with lemon consumed: 12 cups

Juices:

·         Apple

·         Carrot, broccoli, red pepper

·         Celery, radishes, green pepper, red pepper, parsnip, spinach, romaine lettuce, cilantro, alfalfa sprouts, 2 garlic cloves

Now this was a very good day.  Other than feeling cold at times, my energy levels were good.  Not near manic like the other day.  I have to always make sure I’m having enough juices throughout the day so I don’t get that hungry feeling or become lethargic.  I wasn’t pleased about not losing any more weight.  I was a bit surprised, and a bit annoyed.  On the other hand, I can put on and take off my jeans without undoing them!  I can see and feel the difference.  My body is probably adjusting to the change.

The pain in my knee is gone – woo hoo!  I wonder what else will change.

Day 7

Weight loss: 2 pounds

Purified water with lemon consumed: 10 cups

Juices:

·         Apple and cranberry

·         Carrot and sweet potato

·         Carrots, celery, red pepper, parsnip, romaine lettuce, cilantro, parsley, alfalfa sprouts, Swiss chard, 2 garlic cloves

What a difference 10 hours’ sleep makes!  I think I was a little ambitious, however, with the day’s activities because I fell asleep for an hour early in the evening.  I totally cleaned out and rearranged my closet (throwing out a good number of clothes that are too big or haven’t been worn in some time), exercised 45 minutes on my recumbent bike, and walked for 30 minutes to the grocery store. (I took a cab home since I bought what seems to be the entire produce section.  It’s good to try a few new things to get some variety.)

I decided to revise my elimination schedule.  I will try doing a once-daily warm-water enema, a coffee enema once a week, and not take the laxative herbal tea at all.  Today’s warm-water enema was very effective.  Since my last cleanse ended three months ago, I believe there are not as many toxins in my system as before.  I may not need to be so aggressive with the coffee enemas.  Let’s see what happens.

The combination of veggies I had today (as with all the other days) was awesome!  The garlic really kicks things up a notch.  When I have the garlic-laced juice in the evening, all traces are gone by the next morning.  At least I won’t offend the general public during the day.
