Robin Hood Conference 7-10 July 2003, York, England
Hello! As a librarian, researcher, teacher, and Maid Marian scholar, I thoroughly enjoyed the 4th International Robin Hood Conference, held July 7-10, 2003, in York, England. It was good to see friends and colleagues, and to finally get to England, even if only for a very few days. My only complaint is that there was no sightseeing and shopping time built into the conference, other than the Thursday field trip to some Robin Hood sites in Yorkshire.... Still, it was wonderful; I simply MUST get back to England some day!   Sherron Lux

Robin Hood's Well in Yorkshire
The Sayles district, now Brockadale in Wentbridge, is mentioned in the ballad-epic *A Littel Geste of Robin Hode* from the late 15th-early 16th centuries. Here we're near "the traditional spot" where Robin Hood and Little John fought on the bridge; part of a massive pillar of the modern bridge is visible.
Robin Hood's Well in Yorkshire -- well, the cover, at any rate; the well itself is now under a highway....

Fountains Abbey ruins, Yorkshire, July 2003
Fountains Abbey is the largest abbey ruin in England, and must have been even more overwhelming when complete.
The Refectory is the only part of Fountains Abbey with some roof remaining; note the pointed arches
Robin Hood's Tower
Courtyard, King's Manor, University of York
Robin Hood's Tower is part of the medieval York Wall; the Tower happens to be across from the College of York St. John, where we stayed in the dormitories and had delicious breakfasts and dinners in the dining room.
A peacock inhabits the courtyard of King's Manor, University of York, as peacocks have done for hundred of years; the conference sessions were held in a room upstairs in the Manor.
