After Sensational Sherri split from Randy Savage at Wrestlemania VII, there was speculation that her career was finished. After all, Savage was being forced to retire and Sherri didn't have any other men to manage. However, people who hoped that Sherri would just fade away were to be disappointed.
Sherri quickly found a new man to manage. In fact, she began assisting "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase later that same evening against Rowdy Roddy Piper at Wrestlemania! Piper was injured and Sherri and Dibiase used his own crutch to attack him! With this heinous action, Sherri showed she was just as mean and vicious as she had been when she managed Randy Savage! She may have no longer been Sensational "Queen" Sherri, but she would occupy a very powerful position in the WWF as the manager of its richest superstar! She continued to use devious, underhanded tactics to help her man gain an advantage and was just as hated by WWF fans as she had always been! Sherri and Dibiase enjoyed humiliating defeated opponents by stuffing hundred dollar bills in their mouths. They also flaunted their wealth in front of fans and sometimes paid people to do embarrassing things for money. Sherri clearly enjoyed her new role as Dibiase's valet/manager.
Sherri's lying and cheating were in plain sight on Coliseum Video's WWF Invasion 92. In this video, Sherri was miked during a match and fans at home were given an inside look into how far she would go to help her man win!
Dibiase considered himself a "champion" of sorts. He had used his money to have a diamond-encrusted belt made and called himself "The Million Dollar Champion!" He even defended the "title" in the ring! The people that Dibiase and Sherri were concentrating on most at this time were the Million Dollar Man's former bodyguard, Virgil and Rowdy Roddy Piper. Dibiase and Virgil had had a falling out when the bodyguard got fed up with the abusive way he was treated by Dibiase. Virgil turned on his employer and the two became enemies. This disrespect on the part of Virgil so enraged Dibiase that the Million Dollar Man made it his number one priority in life to destroy his former employee! Sherri eagerly helped her man in his battle against Virgil. A title match was signed for Summerslam 91, where Dibiase would meet Virgil for the Million Dollar championship!
To the delight of the crowd and the anger and chagrin of Dibiase and Sherri, Virgil overcame the odds and captured the belt with a spectacular win over The Million Dollar Man at Summerslam! As an added bonus, Rowdy Roddy Piper (the man Dibiase and Sherri had attacked at Wrestlemania!) was doing commentary at the match and nobody in the arena was happier than he was to see Dibiase and Sherri lose the title!
Over the next few months, Sherri and Dibiase battled Virgil and Piper in various arenas around the country. Ted and Sherri were determined to get their title back and teach Virgil a lesson. They found a way to regain the belt when they had it �repossessed� by an ally known as "Repo Man!" For a brief time, Repo Man helped Dibiase in his battle against Virgil. Repo and Dibiase defeated Virgil and Tito Santana in a tag-team match at an event titled "This Tuesday in Texas."
As for Rowdy Roddy Piper, he had more success in his conflict with Sherri and Dibiase. He found ways to keep Sherri in her place and frustrate the Million Dollar Man. Piper, Virgil, Sherri and Dibiase were all involved in a match at the 1991 Survivor Series. At this event, Sherri attempted to interfere in the match and was, surprisingly, kissed by Piper! A memorable event also occurred when Sherri attempted, unsuccessfully, to become the manager of Andre the Giant. The Giant responded to Sherri's proposition by giving her a spanking! Sherri's disposition and arrogant, aggressive attitude continued to get her in trouble.
Sherri's last big event as the manager of Ted Dibiase was the 1992 Royal Rumble. Shortly after the Rumble, she left Dibiase and became involved with Shawn Michaels, a young up-and-coming WWF superstar. |
