Tis The Season

Tis the season to be jolly,
But I'm not feeling all that merry.
Each year the holiday arrives
And I'm not prepared.

There are gifts to think about,
Friends I want to visit with,
And letters to those I won't see.
What will my Christmas message be?

Will I talk about the beauty of my tree,
Or what the season means to me?
Will I say what's in my heart,
Or will I share holiday blessings?

Will I say that the gifts I'll receive
Will not be what I really need
And want this holiday season,
Or will I just smile and say thank you?

It happens every year,
I receive many nice gifts,
Lovely cards that say so much,
But what I want cannot be bought.

My desires are simple,
But my loved ones don't see
That money and fine gifts
Will not keep my spirit alive.

The gifts I need come from God.
Inner strength, peace, wisdom
And self-forgiveness
Are given through God's grace.

The gifts I want come from within.
God places these gifts in my heart
A better understanding of myself,
An attitude of gratitude.

Tis not a man I need under my tree,
Nor a nicer car, or bigger home.
The greatest gift I can receive
Is the gift of love I give to myself.

In giving thanks to God
For gifts I receive through His Love,
I'm given what I need most of all.
These are the gifts that place
Christmas in my heart every day.
