PREPARATION FOR TEACHER: Teacher should prepare first by reading
the student's difficulty level before beginning of the lesson. Readings and
reviewing all materials being used throughout the lesson should be scanned
as well. The teacher should be prepared to make written observations at the
end of each session or tape the session. A brief knowledge of the software
and hardware being used with the student should also be known.
STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE:
* Begin by having the student read a simple sentences.
* Choose communicative words to focus on for that day.
* Go through each syllable and letter by demonstrating how they are pronounced.
* Have the student repeat them back to you.
* Repeat steps above (except the first one) until you feel that the student

devices will spark more of an interest for the student and allow him/her to
relate the word(s) they have just learned.
ASSESSMENT
Demonstrations/Observations: Student learning will mainly be
assessed through constant demonstrations and observations. The teacher will
demonstrate to the student how the communicative word is pronounced and then
have the student repeat it back. Once the student has a established a firm
grasp of how to say the word, process will then move on to the function of
the actual word. Assistive software will be used in concurrent with a headset
with an attached microphone so that the student may establish a better pronunciation
of the word as well. Observations are a must throughout the demonstration
process. Here, the teacher must be very attentive to how the student is progressing
thoughout the lesson. The student, as well, must also be very attentive to
how the teacher is pronouncing each letter and syllable and process the function
of all words in order to communicate better. Again, software (such as Dragon
Naturally Speaking) will be used to help further the sutdent's ability.
Portfolios: A portfolio of the student will be kept in order to
maintain progress. Things such as written observations, list of words completed/uncompleted
by the student, and any other relative material will be kept in the portfolio.
When the grading period ends, the portfolio will be analyzed to see if the
student has improved throughout the lesson.
Oral exams: The student will be in a number of oral exams after
each communicative word has been reviewed. The student will be tested on pronunciation
and function of the word and scored based on how well he/she has grasped
the concept(s). Other oral exams may also be taken on the computer. Students
will be using the hardware and software provided to help with the function
of the words and assess them on their achievement level.
NOTE:
** Please be patient with the student, as most students are at different
levels when they start!!
** Also, always try to encourage the student to figure concepts/pronunciation
by themselves before giving the answer.
