Graphisoft Park is located on a 7.5-hectare site alongside the Danube in the northern part of buda, facing a nature conservation area on Haj?gy?ri Island. The Park's high-tech buildings of brick, glass and steel are in visual harmony with the buildings of the neighboring, former Gas Works, which were built at the beginning of the 20th century and are considered as protected industrial monuments now. When complete in 2004, the park will contain 15 three-story office buildings totaling 25,000 sq. meters, nevertheless leaving more than 80 percent of the site open for parks.
The proposed conference center presents a unique challenge for architects: to design the first known structure to be situated over one of Europe's most important waterways. The waterfront in the city of Budapest, featuring the Buda Castle and Roman remains, is a World Heritage site.
The design site is an old industrial pillar in the river along Graphisoft Park, which used to be the base structure of a wharf crane of the Gas Works, and which offers the exceptional opportunity to build a 350-sq-meter conference center over the river.
The
Graphisoft Park Conference Center will be dedicated to the architectural profession,
and used to host architectural design exhibitions, conferences for the international
ArchiCAD and ArchiFM user communities, and other major events promoting architecture
as well as Graphisoft's products and technologies.
