[ .Concentration. ]

Written Commentary

(1) Briefly define the nature of your concentration project.

The nature of my concentration is to show how emotions can be reflected through hands and how hands are the base of creation, destruction and are able to be delicate with objects.

(2) Briefly describe the development of your concentration and the sources of your ideas. You may refer to specific slides as examples.

I've always been intrigued by the human hand and I thought that it would be a good concentration piece. I started with a realistic, full of anguish hand and gradually brought it down to a shakey-lined piece. I found sources for my pictures from people around me, and my own hand. I also used color to express the emotion in some, like with slide II-5. The complimentary colors shows the relation between the two hands. Slide II-12 is the last slide, showing the raw, rough lines of the hands - showing how a gentle hand can be crippled by the work of life and still express an emotion without having to be understood with the use of voice.

(3) What medium or media did you use?

I used regular graphite pencil, colored pencils and markers because they give you more control over your drawing and the flow of lines are easier to indicate verses painting.
