The Ross Sheppard Alumni Invitational Hockey Pool was formed in 1984, just after Wayne Gretzky had led the Edmonton Oilers to their first Stanley Cup victory and Team Canada to the '84 Canada Cup Championship. Most of the time (11 out of 21 years), brothers Mark (6 titles) and Jon (5 titles) McCourt won La Coupe Shep. Other multiple winners included Richard Wallington (3 victories), and two time champs Scott Montgomery and Eric Stein.
The Shep League was at perhaps its most competitive in the seven seasons from 1989-95, when 7 different clubs copped the crown. The RSAIHP folded on April 18, 2006, exactly 7 years after Wayne Gretzky's last NHL game.
The biggest blowout was in '86 when Mark finished over 250 points ahead of 2nd place Monty. The closest race was 20 years later in the League's final season, when Team Eric beat the late Jon McCourt's club by 2 points.
