TO: Staff Sergeant Joseph J. Novak
1. During the past thirty months from 1 April to 18 September 1945, your services as Power Turret and Gunsight Mechanic have been highly commendable. I wish to express my appreciation for the splendid manner in which you have performed your duties.
2. There have been many times when you have carried out your duties under adverse conditions. Your initiative and determination have aided greatly in establishing and maintaining the excellent record of your organization, the 674th Bombardment Squadron (L), the 417th Bombardment Group (L).
3. It is through the devotion to duty of men such as yourself that the Fifth Air Force has been able to achieve its repeated successes. You have rendered a great material contribution to the effective prosecution of the war and to our ultimate victory.

This tribute would not be complete without honoring my mother, Josephine. Her love, guidance, and devotion, enabled us to be who we are today.
