-First of all who answer this enterview I& would like to know, what are infinitum obscure doing right now

HAILS! Roberto from INFINITUM OBSCURE (Tijuana, MEXICO) here. Well everyhting seems to be running fine right now since we are hard at work preparig our upcoming debut full-length album.

-Tell us a short story band and the current line up.

Well, INFINITUM OBSCURE came to life around mid 2000 with the idea of creating a powerful entity of music that would bring back and restore the true felling of ancient Metal that has been lost in nowadays so-called Metal Scene, and the hatred and anger built up through some obscure years of personal and emotional struggle. This idea came to reality in 2001 when Joel Marquez (drums) and I got together and started jamming our own original tunes ahta I had been working on since 1 year before. In late 2001 we wellcomed our bass player Carlos Escobar. After 3 years of being together we lost our second guitarist Noel Bello (who joined the band in 2002) due to different personal goals. Right nw INFINITUM OBSCURE’s line-up is back to the original three piece consiting of Joel Marquez (drums), Carlos Escobar (bass) and myself on lead guitar and vocals.

-Have you already received some comments or response on your latest split album "cosmic evil” with Ancient gods?

Well, actually “Cosmic Evil” is ANCIENT GODS’ part of the split.  Our part is called “IPSUS UNIVERSUM”. We have been getting really good reviews, and some of them are from very opinionated people, this is encouraging because the media is always very hard on new bands you know. We do our thing and that’s what counts for us and that isn’t gonna change.  It’s getting more acceptance through out the underground and we feel satisfied with the positive feedback we have been receiving.

-You have played  here in cd Juarez with Obeisance and Dark Evocation how was that show?

Well, yeah, we played in Ciudad Juarez in November 2003 with OBEISANCE , REIGN OF TERROR and DARK EVOCATION, and it was one of the best shows we’ve played in Mexico, outside our City,  Our brothers of OBEISANCE are deifinteley a killer band. DARK EVOCATION are killer too!! I hope they have something good for the scene in the future.

-It was a good support, from the fans also the bands

YES!!! Definitely we had a killer support and we feel lucky to have been able to get this kind of support in Juarez, specially since INFINITUM OBSCURE is relatively a new band. And it was our first tie playing in that city, I’d really like to thank Martin Von Fa Q from OBEISANCE and Javier Padilla from DARK EVOCATION / OBEISANCE for doing a killer show in Juarez and taking care of us during our stay.

-How do you felt the scene in cd. Juarez.

Juarez has a strong scene, a lot like the scene in Tijuana, which has been growing a lot lately, at least for the last 6 years now. I think both cities have a strong Metal following. Juarez has had really good international bands play there like IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, IMMORTAL,  BEHEMOTH and others as well. This has contributed to the strength of the scene there I think, in some way.

-What are you doing right now.

Well, right now we are writing music for our first full length album. We are working hard on the new compositions of death so that we may be able to record by the summer. We are also looking for a new guitar player but we are not in a hurry because we want to make sure we find the RIGHT person this time in ALL the aspects that are needed. We hope to enter the studio as soon as we finish composing newer songs, right now we are half way done with the record but we look forward to a few more months before we are able to say something else regarding the album. We can’t wait!!

-Any record deal for a full lp, plans for touring outside your country. To where

Well, the record will be released through UTTERLY SOMBER CREATIONS, which is our same record label that released the split CD.  Victor Torres at Utterly Somber has a strong belief in the band and we feel very strong about our new music, we want to release a good, powerfull, aggressive and dark album. As far as touring well, I think that still far away but we won’t discard the possibility of playing farther down south inside Mexico because we really want to go there and play some shows, get the music out more you know. Also we are being offered to play in Los Angeles, California again, so we are looking into that right now.  Some other good plans are in the works.

-Tell us  you recording material available . you are promoting the split with Ancient Gods

Well, yea, this material we are promoting is the split Cd with Chicago’s ANCIENT GODS, so far it is doing really good, I think the first pressing of 1200 Cd’s is almost sold out!!

-Tijuana mexico how is the scene there is best or worst than cd. Juarez scene.

Tijuana scene is growing up a lot!!! It has been growing constantly in the past 6 years and I can feel it very deeply. It is also growing in a positive way I think. It is very similar to the scene in Ciudad Juarez that’s for sure. And far more intense than the scene in San Diego, (California).  When I first came to live here this scene was totally dead, and it has been growing so that is very good for the band, that’s one of the reasons we decided to form the band and stay here. There is better stuff coming in the future I feel it.

-Now lets talk abou you recording material, could you describe a little bit step by step how was it.descrbe us the songs , lyrics, music also the art

Well, this is a short question that needs a long answer, the music that is created by INFINITUM OBSCURE is fast aggressive and obscure metal of death in the vein of ancient times, times that were a golden age for Metal and the underground empire, these feelings are completely gone nowadays. We make music that we honestly feel, it comes straight from within our purest feelings of hatred and we transmit these dark atmosphere through our musical inspiration. All the songs are different and showcase a diversity of moods, changes and different things that makes each song have it’s own identity. The lyrics speak of diverse feelings and desires such as hate, vengeance, destruction, and to find the inner falme within each individual , and to follow one’ own path.

-What are you lyrics talk about , from wheere do you take the ideas for the songs and what are they talk about.

INFINITUM OBSCURE is anti-religious and anti-dogmatic, it is based in ones own beliefs and seeks the inner fark flame of the real self. The artwork is TOTALLY related to the topics of the lyrics, these are my own concepts and ideas. It all evolves o run the inner universe inside every person. The concept is based upon real life experiences and situations. Diverse things really, other thing is for sure, it is 100% REAL,  we aren’t talking about nordic warriors and snow and battle axes. We describe real inner solitude inspired by the dark inner flame of vengeance and the desire to take back what was once ours, the majestic empire of Metal. It has been corrupted and raped and this madness must stop.

-Besides the band What else you do, how do you support  metal scene

I promote METAL shows in Tijuana, we’ve had good international acts play in Tijuana like BEHEMOTH (poland), RISE (los Angeles), etc. We are currently working on a show for this weekend with OBEISANCE actually!! It will be their first time in Baja California and it promises to be a killer gig.

Do you think the spirit “death metal” is getting lost? why? who is killing THE SCENE?

Metal IS not as good as it used to be back i the 80’s and 90’s. the real felling is almost completely lost. only a very few bands still possess the inner flame of real metal and we carry it with pride.  the metal scene of today is over run by stupid trends and it must be destroyed.

this lack of ancient death is what is destroying this type of music and the lack of devotion and passion to the metal way of life. people think they’re “metal” just because they like cradle of filth and shit like that but they don’t live this lifestyle day by day, they are just an act on stage, but in real life they are regular losers or even worse!!! metal is supreme and blood must be shed with no mercy.

--How are the relations between the bands in you site? Do you support each other band, or every band goes alone on the way?

You mean the bands in the “links” section of our website?? Yes,  we completely support these metal acts, in te same way they support us.

 -          Any great newcomer bands you would recommend us ?

Well, damn!!! RAPED GOD from Mexico City is extraordinary!! Total thrash Assault!!  Also DEMONIZED, BLOOD REAPING, I think DARK EVOCATION are killer. AETERNUS MALEDICTO from Ensenada, MEXICO, they are fucking great band!!  Also WINTER THRALL from Los Angeles are a killer band worth checking out totally!!

 -          What bands influenced you to play death metal .

I come from a more 90’s and 80’s influence. Mainly bands like Kreator, Destruction, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost,  Morbid Angel, Immolation, Desaster, The Chasm , Shub Niggurath, Cenotaph (r.i.p.), Iron Maiden, Death Row, Exorcist, Original Sin, Dismember, early Entombed, Sabbat (Japan), Pentacle, Mortem (peru),  King Diamond, Mercyful Fate  Manowar, Judas Priest , Riot, Accept, DIO and a whole bunch more!!!

-A lot of bands mention the word “evolution” I can’t understand how do the call the bands as sepultura, morbid angel, entombed, amorphis, just to mention some. I ’ll could  think evolution is the same as commercialization (shit) . what do you think .

Evolution is becoming better, it is growing within your own real self , and not leaving your past behind and changing all of a sudden. I laugh because they say the have evolved but they have actually gone away from what they said they were. That is not positive, at least not for me. Only a very few bands these day actually evolve and become better within their own thing like THE CHASM, PENTACLE, DESASTER, SABBAT, just to name a few.   The bands grow better within their style of music and remain true to their essence, and I feel very strong about this kind of determination. Anything else is just a big joke.

 - I would like to give my eternal thanks to you for your time to answer the interview my best wishes for the band. Anything else you'd like to add to this interview

thank you very much for your time Refugio!! We appreciate your support very much and hope to see you sometime soon!!!  Keep the flame of REAL METAL alive!!!
