I remenber the phrase of Dave rotten (Avulsed) “Who said death metal is dead”  hey Kids if you have not chace of hear Kaamos don’t delay try this four pieces of Sweden death metal in the vein of the old school…. Gods are back and have a new name KAAMOS of course death metal is live write themmmmm.

Here is an enterview with this greath band

-How did the birth of kaamos come about? (Please who, why, when, where of this)

-Hello! Kaamos was formed halfway through 1998. The reason was DEATH METAL.

Original line-up was Konstantin Papavasilliou, Nicklas Eriksson, Johan Thörngren and Thomas Åberg. A 2 song  7” vinyl and a three song promo was recorded with this lineup before Johan left and Karl came in and later Thomas left and Chris entered the stage. This has been a solid base now for quite some time.

-Who are the members in the band, what do they play, ages and what was the common goal or interest that made you come together in kaamos

-Konstantin Papavasilliou plays guitar, 27 years old

Nicklas Eriksson plays guitar, 27 years old

Chris Piss, drums, 27 years old

Karl Envall, bass and vocals, 23 years young…

-We were all friends before we started to play in Kaamos.

-We came to know each other through death metal.

-Where and when was your “Kaamos cd” recorded, How did the recording go and are you pleased or not with the results and how.

-It was recorded in Studio Subsonic. The same studio we used for the “Curse of Aeons” demo actually. I think we managed to get a good production with fairly small means. It’s rough and rugged, dirty and mean. The way we like it. We do not enjoy recording sessions due to the sterile environment that makes it hard to get the atmosphere and feeling we get from i.e. a live performance.

-Why did you call “Kaamos” to a you first full cd, and what does mean the name.

-Kaamos is a Finnish word meaning “period of darkness”. A good friend presented it to us and we liked the sound of it and the suggestive force of the word. To have a self-titled debut album is for us a tribute to old classics such as “Kiss”, “Iron Maiden” and “Black Sabbath”.

-What do the each of the songs lyrics speak of or talk about?

-We do not talk about this. Read the lyrics and make up your own mind. They have a meaning that is true but perhaps you can find another meaning that works for you. Those who know will know.

-Any special feeling with each of these songs (musically, lyrically)

-They are all special to me. Sometimes a like one song better than the other but it depends on what mood I’m in. Usually I like best the song last made.

-I had the opportunity of heard the song Khem,  is a great sound powerful, filled of great job in the vein of the old death metal school. Tell us your point of view of this job

-It’s what we do. I’m pleased that you recognize that. We want to capture the spirit of old without for that matter sounding senile…

-You have a song called “The chasm” tell us about this song.

-It’s a killer death metal song with a Autopsy-ish intro. Classic stuff.

-Same name as a great Mexican death metal band “the chasm” (did you heard about them) Any coincidence.

-I’ve heard about them but I don’t think I’ve heard them. The chasm is a well-known and used subject within metal so I don’t see a connection between the band and the song apart from both being spawned from the abyss.

-Before “Kaamos” cd you had place a previous recording material release “promo 99”, “Kaamos 7” ” And “Course of Aeons demo 01’ ” tell us how was the recording process where was recorded and how, could you describe step by step the evolution band after every recording.

-The thing is that from the very first recording we struck gold. The sound was there. The essence of Kaamos. The biggest change was the introduction of Chris Piss that with his characteristic drumming really put his mark on “Curse of Aeons”. Of course the mighty power of Karl also made it a crème de la crème effort. The debut album has many old songs but the new ones are in the same vein so it all fits. Development is something we strive for but not at the cost of the old spirit.

-I heard you are touring now trough Europe which countries, dates and with which bands.

-This not exactly true… we have done some one off gigs this year outside of Sweden.  One gig in Greece (with Deviser, Obduktion, Dark Vision) in April, one in France (with Antaeus, Necroblaspheme, Vorkreist) in may and one in Germany (with Imperious and more) in September… extensive tour, ey?!  Coming up in Nov is an invasion of Belgium with Exterminator, Crawlspace & Resuscitation

-Any plans for America.

-Not at the moment.

-Hey lets go back a little. Behind every release every recording is a portrait lets talk about every portrait, who draw, and if they have a hidden message. What does mean or what does want to reflect in the portraits.

-The drawings are made by our mysterious secret (haha) fifth member Mr. Dauthus. He is responsible for the layout of all our releases and sort of works as our visual mastermind. A great artist and friend. We are lucky to be able to take part of his talent. He captured the spirit and essence of Kaamos. Dauthus is death.

-From where do you take the ideal to compose the songs lyrics.

-Typhonian Magick.

-What or who influenced you to play this music

-Life, death,  music, movies, books, art

-What music do you hear / books read

-I listen to mostly metal with all the sub genres you can imagine… Also some stoner rock and punk. Books very from history, biographies, classic novels etc… Last book read was “the dwarf” by Pär Lagerqvist

-Do you have a band or book favorite

-It’s hard to single out just one. All time favorite band I’d say Kiss.

-Lets talk about you country “Sweden” considered for a lot of people (including myself)  as a land of great death metal bands . is this a kind of pressure for all new death metal bands to grow up or do a better job than the ancestrals bands.

-I would hope so. Unfortunately the new breed of death metal bands looks more to Florida than to Stockholm for inspiration. Old Swedish death metal hardly exists anymore. A few bands keep the flame alive but most kids are way too much Americanized for my taste. Clean sound and blast beats seems to be the flavor of the month and we hates it.

-In a past behind any great band from Sweden was the sunlight studios is still working and helping out death metal bands.  (Great studios, unique sound that gives a special touch to a death metal)

-Sunlight is still around but not used as frequently as before. I think Necrophobic recorded their last album there otherwise I can’t recall when I last heard a Sunlight production. It’s really not a special studio anymore.

-Nowadays how is the metal scene in Sweden.

-Lame. It’s hard to get people to show up at gigs.

-Is the the same than 10 years ago.

-Not at all.

-Now . I appreciate goes out to you and your band, for your time and answers, what’s your final comment.

-Thanks for you interest in Kaamos. We hope to see you in Mexico some day.
